    I released 6 this past week. They come every day for their food and to lay more eggs. I’m in S Florida so my monarch’s stay around my house and my neighbors. We both planted butterfly gardens. The monarch’s love life over here. I have 12 chrysalis I’m waiting on.

      This year out of 170 only 2 died. Currently have 16 chrysalis and 32 caterpillars munching. Cleaning up the cages twice a day (get rid of the poop) helped so much. Big strong monarchs.

      @@keysmoths5336I like the way you just picked that caterpillar up. I tried but he clung on so tight and I was afraid I was going to squish him so I cut the stem and put him on a more fuller and healthier plant. Is there a certain way to pick them off the leave or stalk?

    Hi! That is amazing. I happen to be raising Monarchs by luck, I wanted to create a butterfly garden and got milkweed which I almost disposed of it because the leaves were dying quickly so I cut it all up it has regrown since then and that’s when I started to see the caterpillars. I was able to move 10 chrysalis, 2 already came out and were beautiful 😍 one came out today and she is just hanging and resting but unfortunately I have 3 that also came out today and they are weak and their wings didn’t spread as they should’ve. What do you do in that case?… oh, I also found out today that I have a couple if not more of the Queen Butterfly! And more Monarchs caterpillars too ❤️

      Good stuff!!! Glad to hear you’re raising them!!! There are many environmental factors that can affect butterfly emergence including virus, humidity levels etc… are the chrysalis hanging properly?

    I have orange butterflies everywhere in my garden and chrysalis everywhere. They love eating my passion flower leaves and love the nectar from my palm leaf cardinal flower. But their chrysalis are brown and the upper half looks like their caterpillar tail. The caterpillar has spikes all over. What do I have?

    • @keysmoths5336
      @keysmoths5336  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. The are in the same genus - Danaus. Both milk weed butterflies. Florida has a third as well called the soldier butterfly
      Danaus gilippus - queen
      Danaus erisimus - soldier
      Danaus plexippus - monarch

    Question. What about the monarch’s that go to chrysalis stage but just stay there and the chrysalis gets so dark. Only twice did a butterfly actually come out. I have 4 that are turning almost black. The chrysalis is, not the butterflies

    • @keysmoths5336
      @keysmoths5336  6 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry to tell you this. Sounds like the chrysalis has a virus. It’s very common in the summer months. When they turn black there is no saving them. Just make sure that they are not just turning colors to get ready to emerge

      @@keysmoths5336 I think they are sick. Had one born yesterday missing 2 of its 4 wings. Only lived about 6 hours but he did eat I hand fed him.
      It seems it’s one after the other with this OE Virus. I’m going to stop for a while. It’s heartbreaking. I’ve twice gotten rid of all my milkweed plants
      Does the virus live on the plants? Do they need a host like a butterfly to spread it? I currently have close to 65 plants. Lots of eggs.
