    Gonna try this / been fighting flux brush shedding for 45+ yrs! Can't hurt and might help a lot. I will tell you the junk sold today is 100x worse than the flux brushes in the 70s when I started

    Good tip. I also cut half the bristles off in length which helps and makes it easier to apply more precisely

    Good tip. I used to squeeze the base with channel locks to tighten the bristles

    Pretty brilliant. I've always just crimped the end as tight as I can before using a new one, but it flares them out which glue won't do.

    I use Stay Clean flux in a plastic bottle that has a brush built into the inside of the lid. I've actually been refilling the same bottle and I've never had any bristles come off the brush in years.

      @@Got2Learn Link? No. Call me old fashioned but I buy reputable products from local supply houses, not Amazon. Any supply house that I've ever been to sells three types of flux: Stay Clean, Bridget, and Oatey. In my region hardly anyone uses Oatey flux because it solidifies in the winter.

    Whenever that happens I just give it a good flick with my brush to get rid of the hair before soldering but this is a pretty damn good tip 👌

    I'm pretty sure the heat from your torch is going to turn that into dust. Better to remove yes but it will be gone long before you even get to proper heat.

    You have to get the pice of bristle out of the flux and off of the pipe or fitting before soldering. I just change flux brushes if the brush is falling apart.

    Ah s***, 9 times out of 10 I just use my finger. I only do a couple joints a year, so I just go to the garage grab my torch, flux, solder and get it done

    Mine typically get burnt up.
    I don't know if I'm wrong for doing this, but I usually wipe the joints with the brush after saudering. It acts the same as if wiping a caulk joint.
    Again, maybe I've been completely wrong for doing this all these years.
    I haven't had any call backs for leaks though.

    Everyone uses PEX now. In fact transition fittings to PEX from copper is easier than solder, flux and brushes.

    Just take vice grips or channel locks and crimp the end better. Done and no wasting glue.

    Well, I think it would still hapen eventually. The glue will get hard and where the bristle meets the glue, it will eventually wear out and get loose. But still this trick is probably increasing the lifespan of the brush!

      Does Flux interact with silicone? A silicone brush could be a more long-term solution.

      I was thinking the same thing I cleaned my joints and used as little Flux as possible because the Flux can cause it not to adhere just as bad as that bristle

    Here in South Korea, we stopped using copper long time ago.
    Instead we use stainless steel pipe with press joints or electrofusion hdpe pipes.
    Far superior.

    "This will never happen," you say. So are you using a brush with only a _ring_ of bristles, or is the glue also binding the inner bristles with the rest of the bristles, somehow all to the ring of metal around the outside only? Seems short-sighted.

    you could not be more wrong and ignorant of this. these bruses are DESIGNED that if a hair from them gets in there, it not only melts but but the melted goo will be foreed out... TRY IT.. i have 10 times for a test and NONE of them failed. This is why its VERY important to use these brushes and NOT things like other hair brushes or rags...
