I know, right? I literally didn't even notice him till then and I did a double take. Like, wait Tom Hanks is here?!😂🤣 He seemed to enjoy it quite a bit lol
Patricia McBride (born August 23, 1942 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is a ballerina who spent nearly 30 years dancing with the New York City Ballet. McBride joined the New York City Ballet in 1959. She became a principal in 1961, becoming the company's youngest principal. She danced with the company for 30 years, including roles created for her by choreographers George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. She is celebrating her 80th birthday today, August 23, 2022.
She became a principal dancer after only two years?! That's absolutely incredible! Tiler here got to that ranking in four years, two is just unheard of nowadays
One thing I love about these Kennedy Center Honors videos is the reactions & looks on the faces of the other honorees during a tribute. Sting, Lily Tomlin & Tom Hanks, like countless others, are bowled over by the talent they are watching onstage. Also, watch as Ms. McBride very, very, very subtly counts the beats of the music with a slight tilt of the head or flutter of an eyelid.
I have to say, Peck absolutely blows McBride out of the water for this piece. McBride's version is at 26:53 of this video. In fairness, she was already in her 40s. ruclips.net/video/x9MPHeRwTY0/видео.html
I do have to agree, but I love the look of pure joy on Patricia’s face as she watches. She’s astounded, and not the least bit put off that Tiler did it better!
I love Tiler's version, just fabulous. McBride dances it as Mr B set it, so the way Patty did it is what Balanchine created. Tyler has a bit of her own take on it. I've watched the Balanchine Foundation Archival tape of McBride explaining, demonstrating, and coaching this piece. She was very specific about what Mr B said to her and asked of her. Tiler is wonderful, don't get me wrong - but I can't agree that she 'blows McBride out of the water'.
The Vaganova trained dancers need to broaden their idea of ballet. Tiler can do all the classical repertoire with her sparkling technique, but she can also do things like this that Russian dancers would probably flail at if they don’t ask the music to be slowed down.
There are different styles of ballet, Vaganova is one style, Balanchine is another. There isn't a style that is more ballet than the other, they're all ballet, only different from each other.
Tiler just has the theatrical ability that flatters the choreography and the music.
I love Tom Hanks' reaction at the end 😂

The look of delight on Patricia McBride's face says it all.
That wicked smile at 0:35!
I've watched this countless times and anyone who thinks this performance was less than brilliant, I just can't agree.

Ottima prova che associa la bravura tecnico stilistica ad una sorta d'ironia felice e sottile.Molto brava.Bighin GIULIO RENZO

You weren’t kidding. I just watched and the difference is astounding.

Does someone know how or where I could get this music?
Hi would I be able to use a bit of this footage in a dance documentary that I'm filming?
I watch this because Tiler is amazing, but I also watch this because Tom Hanks.
Easton Stream
What kind of music is it?😀
It's the great George Gershwin.
I didn't see Jean-Pierre Bonnefous ?
He’s dead hun.
Mmmm nice perfor good job
Her pointe shoes seem to broken in
She is gorgeous but for me this isn't ballet. Check the Vaganova trained dancers. That's ballet.
R1234 H5678 I love vaganova style but I mean what's shown here isn't exactly classical ballet haha

I love me some Vaganova gals, but Tiler is simply amazing.

do you mean classical ballet? you do know there are different types right?
