- Hellooo mon petit choux! So I've always loved this tune, and the way Bon Iver / Justin Vernon plays it is just like 'uuugh, marry me' - also I think his original video isn't available in the UK anymore which is totally sad. In the second verse my brain turned off and I was like aaaahhh what is life, and then at 4:23 I slipped (tried to fix it in post but it wasn't happening and it's now half 4 in the morning) but I'm mostly pretty pleased.

Nerdy stuff:
It was also the first time I've properly tried to mix piano, so the details for anyone who's interested:
Mics:
2 Rode NT5's (cheers Callum) on the soundboard at the back, panned 100% left and right
AKG C3000b (cheers dad) panned centre, just behind where I was sat I guess as a room mic?
Then some fancy EQing and a compressor on top and that's about it! It's a bit boomy in the top third of the piano but I think that's just down to mic placement. Either way I was pretty pleased! :)

I’m sobbing weeping with tissues on my lap. This is seriously the most amazing piano playing I’ve heard . A stunning ode to unrequited love. And how he can translate his feelings into every note is truly spellbinding. This piano playing is straight from the heart of God ❤️❤️❤️
Spellbinding, mesmerizing and otherworldly….
I know this song is generally seen as a sad song of longing and sorrow for a love that couldn't last, but it also magically conveys a sense of acceptance and an almost hopeful readiness to move on. I can't really listen to this song and get sad. All good things come to an end eventually. You have to accept that much is out of our control and our daily calling in life is to do the best we can. When things don't work out, you know that *something* IS going to work out, right around the corner. There's something extremely romantic and real about accepting sorrow, while remaining hopefully ready to accept the next challenge. Life is riddled with setbacks, and it's the way you handle them that defines you.
That's such a lovely point of view ❤️ it's interesting how on the surface the song seems so tragic, yet for so many reasons I've found people referencing it in their happiest moments 🤔❤️
