🤣 we done a rate the shower when we went from our Coachman caravan to our now Motorhome, it just had to be done, the Motorhome won🎉 we love our Motorhome and can’t wait to retire in a few years and go to Shetland, the Puffins kelpies and the Falkirk wheel is definitely on our bucket lists,but no doubt after watching your videos I’ll be adding more to my list😉🤣

No worries, I can’t blame you because it’s a relentless onslaught from the media to assimilate us into Scotland and “The Northern Isles” fits their agenda with The Western Isles. I still have a few years to go but I must say I envy your retirement because working life even in Shetland has become a rat race.

This is a trip that’s on my bucket list, looks beautiful. I have been put off visiting the Kelpies, have been told by several people that the area suffers badly with vandalism and aggressive youths. They do look stunning especially at night.
We have been to the Kelpies a couple of times and have always felt safe - they have moved the motorhome parking up to the top carpark which has a barrier at night and is at the end of a road so the boy racers that I think used to cause problems can't get in. There were about 20 vans when we stayed so it felt like safety in numbers. They are definitely worth a visit in the dark - even if you stay elsewhere! The Shetlands have been fantastic!
We have just completed the NC500 and are now working our way back down the country towards home. We planned to visit The Kelpies today anyway and happened to watch your video this morning. Didn’t realise we could overnight there or that they lit them up at night. Thanks for the tip, we are doing exactly that. Keep the video coming.
The Kelpies are pretty epic - I remember the first time we saw them - you drive past on the motorway - I made Richard find an exit so we could get a closer look!

We are having a blast- the islands are fab aren't they! We would thoroughly recommend the Shetlands, but we are also loving the Orkneys at this moment in time. We are being so lucky with the weather🤞 Thanks for the comment👍
The park up by the Kelpies was fantastic as you can see them in all the different light conditions - I’m not sure which is better - day or night! It is certainly a long way north to get to the Shetlands - they are closer to Norway 🇳🇴 🚐 🏴

We are the Orkneys now and they are every bit as. Stunning as the Shetlands in a slightly different way. We really fell in love with the Shetlands ❤️🚐 how amazing is the Kelpie stop over!

Ah exciting - we have absolutely loved our trip so far! We were so lucky to have 2 weeks of great weather on the Shetlands - there are so many wonderful places to explore 🚐 we are heading off on a ferry to Hoy this morning ⛴️

The puffins are adorable ♥️ the ferry was £610 return going out from Aberdeen to Lerwick and returning via Kirkwall in the Orkneys to Scrabster on the mainland. This is with a cabin and obviously the campervan.
@earlyretirementwanderlust If you are travelling through the Highlands, the beaches at Nairn and Findhorn are beautiful. There is a camp up at Fundhorn with a sauna on the beach as well...a fab bakery too. A little local tip!!

We have seen a couple of different videos of when the crossing have been rough - I was very relieved we made it across with out incident!! The Kelpies were really impressive and we were lucky to catch them in the sun, sunset and the dark 😊 🚐

Hi - the ferries are certainly not cheap! We just booked ours through the NorthLink Ferries website. It was £610 for the 2 of us and the van - including a cabin on the way out and returning via the Orkney islands. I suppose we hadn't realised what a long trip it is - 12 hours from Aberdeen to Lerwick. What we spent on ferries we have saved on the islands as the most expensive campsite was £31 a night but you can do your washing for free which saved a bit of money there. We have used a few of the marinas at £20 a night and many park ups are free.
I love your videos, we too plan carefully & budget wisely on trips. Can i ask what editing software you use please & do you use an iPad or MacBook? Happy travels x
Thank you - the more we can do the trips on a reasonable budget - the more we can get away 😊 We use the iMovie app that comes with your iPad or MacBook. We edit on the MacBook as Richard finds it much easier with the videos being such a big file size.
We travelled on the Shetlands from 17th- 31st July and just about caught the puffins. We have been on the Orkneys ever since and they have gone! I think May - July is the best time to see them 😊🐧

There are dog friendly cabins on the ship, but be aware, like on most boats the cabins are limited in number and book out very quickly. Dog owners confirmed this on all of our crossing. Good luck with your plans👍
