Many species of rays live at Loro Parque in Tenerife (@Loroparquetenerife). Most of the rays can be found in the shark tunnel in the aquarium across from Animal Embassy. Here, we took a closer look at training with the animals. Ray training is not only growing in popularity but also is also important for the animals themselves.
There are two different training systems for the rays in Loro Parque. One is based on a target that animals can swim into, and the other one is a target that animals can swim onto. The animals are rewarded with food and touch. You can see in the video how enthusiastically the rays participate in the training.
In addition to the rays, the sharks are also trained at Loro Parque.

Animal training is playing an ever-increasing role in modern animal husbandry. Elasmobranchs in particular, commonly known as sharks and rays, are very rarely trained.
