while watching you telling the history of uw monitor I knew you are wrong with something, the first uw monitor existed before 2010, I know because I remember someone posted a photo of said monitor playing crysis not too long after the game came out... so I searched with google and found this...

I have a 1440p ultrawide, Days Gone and Horizon are awesome in that aspect ratio even Gears 5, with my 6700 they run smoothly.
I also prefer this one to work, I"m a software developer and having a lot of text on the screen helps a lot.
The only downside is that some old games that I play don't have support for 21:9. And if they have it is a pain in the ass to implement it, dealing with HEX codes
even install third party software! I don't like that, I just want to play hehe.

Wud love to know all about your experience. Looking to get a 27in 16:9 or perhaps 32 Ultrawide and if 1440p is good it could make it both affordable and a good choice.

Currently I have a Samsung sj55w, 34 inches 1440p ultrawide (work), and a Dell sw3422dwg (gaming), same diagonal and resolution but higher refresh rate (144 Hz).
IMO the text looks good, it is not as clear as a retina display though. I sit between 70 and 90 cm away from the monitor.
1440p in a 27 inch monitor would look the same as in a 34 inch ultrawide one (as long as the latter is 3440x1440). Both have the same ppi (around 110).
In my experience, 100 to 120 ppi is the sweet spot. And I don't recommend a 32 inch monitor with 2560x1440 resolution because it will look the same as a 27 inch one at 1080p. Unless you will see it from a distance longer than 1 meter.

You are not alone lol ,personally I'd like them adopting the 21:9 aspect ratio rather than the 32:9 super ultrawide one , and being at a size of 34-38" max more than that IMO is too big for a PC monitor, even a curved one .
so we will probably end up with a resolution of 5210X2160 which is 11,059,200 pixels (a little over 11 millions), 4K 16:9 is 8.3 million pixels so the pixels difference is 2,764,800 or 2.7 million. so running it as long as you don't run out of VRAM should be around 31% less performance than regular 16:9 4K.

I used to had like 2 1080p monitors and I thought it was easier to use, fun to play games and efficient to work with. Until a month ago buying ultrawide monitor. First of all, it looks amazing, games looks amazing, working is far easier than two screen. I would never go back 2 monitor setup. It has 4k width but 2k height usually. So you still need some hefty gpu to play games with. I bought 4080 last week and with the techs like RT and DLSS I think it's the right option. You can get 150 fps with DLSS and frame generation and even more so with other older games. Cyberpunk overdrive with DLSS gives around 100 fps. So I think it's the balanced option for ultrawide setup. Gaming experience I tell you is something else.

The frames aren't as much of an issue if you want to lower the FOV but still retain the same awareness in a shooter. That way you still see as much but have a better zoom for better long range shots. I considered getting an ultra wide to play tarkov at lower FOV. I could still get the same peripheral view as someone on a higher FOV on a 16:9 monitor while getting the advantage of a larger target to shoot at. Shouldn't be any real performance hit that way in theory except if there is a hit due to better LOD because of increased zoom rendering better textures and distant detail.

I guess ill find out when my new monitor is delivered later. One issue that cropped up when researching my purchase, the brand of your GPU can effect performance with some high end (i don't know if it's an across the board issue) monitors, the firmware of the monitor can play with some GPU brands better than others, for example the Alienware AW3423DWF favours Nvidia GPU's, Yet another pitfall to be aware of. I didn't explain that very well, Hardware Unboxed have a in depth explanation of the issue which is probably only applicable to the 2 Alienware AW3423DW/F monitors. The Freesync version works better with Nvidia GPU's than the G-sync version, and they advise getting the DWF Freesync version. Another thing using Ultrawide, do you need to change the FOV settings? It's not typically a setting I ever meddle with. 21:9 definitely adds to immersion. Thanks, great channel..

LMAO I'm enjoying the hell out of my dual monitor setup, a trillion times better, no lame black bars, compatibility issues, not having to deal with annoying curved displays, can activate RTX video Super Resolution on one video and do something else in the other monitor, next step is to replace my old 24 full HD display with a 28-32in 4k monitor, Ultrawide will never take off

I got a 21:9 monitor and honestly I can’t wait to go back. Opening 2 windows side by side is nice when I needed to out some data into an Excel sheet, but games feel so much less immersive with the wide aspect ratio.
Already ordered a 27” OLED monitor and will return the ultrawide as soon as it arrives.

Less immersive? That's surely a new one that I never heard, and honestly makes no sense, but you do you 💪

@ well it kinda does, even if the camera is as far from the character as it would have been on 16:9, there’s so much more space on the sides now, makes me feel less in tune with the character 😅
Maybe it’s cool for FPS or racing games, but 90% of the games I play are third person and I can’t get immersed in them on an ultrawide.
Definitely gotta try Indiana Jones and Need for Speed before I return it!

I have a 6700xt and thinking about switching to a 1440p 144hz ultrawide now im not so sure if it will handle all the games without sacrifying some details

You can watch the video. 1440P ultrawide is a new and worthy experience :D

@@AncientGameplays Yeah i did watch it, great video! But maybe i should have gone for the 6800 instead for high refresh rate ultrawide gaming😅

You will still be fine with a 6700xt. The monitor is the most important thing imo. Later you keep it and upgrade the GPU

I want to upgrade to such a screen but would by hardware make it?
    CPU Ryzen 5 2600x
    GeForce rtx 2070 Super

It would to some extend, but would suffer, both in terms of gpu and cpu. For cpu get a 5800x3d and you don't need another board. As for GPU, even a 3080/6800xt would be a huge upgrade
