For me as an amateur, I personally love to share my images for the benefit of people that are not able to witness such things. This might be due to disabilities or just plain old age doesn’t allow them to go there. There are so many places I have been fortunate to visit over the last three years (Iceland, Scottish Highlands, Orkney, summits of Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike) to be able to photograph them and share them gives me great pleasure. I live in a small parish and regularly take images of the local landscape and wildlife at different times of the year and pass on the images to our local parish magazine, also post on the social media page for my village, the feedback I get suggests a lot of people appreciate it. It’s a passion that will stay with me for the rest of my life too Henry 😉❤️📷
Exactly this Garry. I feel blessed that a majority of the time, I'm the only person to have witnessed that particularly moment. A Robin feeding its young, a pair of mating swans, a sunset etc.. Its the thrill of capturing that moment to share with others.. Even if my average photo gets 10 likes on insta 😂
For me personally love to share my images with other people. To show them the beautiful places I’ve been visiting. It’s also a kind of historical story of the landscape we keep with the images we take. Landscape is changing over the years. For example they installing all the Wind turbines into the fields. An other thing is, I’m enjoying the loneliness, the peace and calm. Greetings
I like that it makes me slow down and really look at the landscape in a way I wouldn't if just out for a stroll. And watching how the light changes the feel and shape of the land as you watch. That never gets old (and I've been doing it for over 50 years now!).
I love a "let's get on the road and see what happens" outing, especially as I recently retired from an office job and I can just head out whenever the impulse takes me. Eyes open, boots laced, gas in the tank, figure out if you can stop or find a spot to park and walk back for that thing you just saw and have to capture, take the day and conditions as they come. (Ooh, look at you, going for B&W! I love working in B&W.) Sure, not everything works out, but you roll with it and watch for the next interesting thing, because there always IS a next interesting thing, whether it's an epic panorama, interesting light, or a tiny, beautiful plant you've only just noticed. Even when you revisit somewhere you've been before, the conditions will be different. It literally never gets old. Thanks as always for sharing your adventures.
"The thrill of anticipation" ... that's perfect! And not only does it apply to photography but in many areas. For example, I just returned from a week+ in west Texas, an ~800 mile drive each way for me. It's a trip I've taken many times and for years I took the Interstate (motorway) route as much as I could, to "save time". But about 15 years ago I realized I MUCH more enjoy taking secondary roads as much as possible. The scenery is vastly better, there are more "surprises" (including the occasional slow traffic! LOL) and there's much less of the mind-numbing sameness of freeways / motorways. And beside, most Texas state highways have a 70+ MPH speed limit, so ... 😀 The challenge now is to find new route alternatives without going totally out of my way. Maybe I need to go somewhere else!! 🙂 Great video and Happy Birthday!
For me, Its the thrill of possibly geting some decent shots and the anticipation when looking at the images when back home. Its great for the wellbeing and mental health when you have had a good day out. Happy belated birthday wishes🎉
Your vlogs are always such a pleasure to watch Henry! In response to your question, for me, it's pretty simple! Landscape photography allows me to get the most out of the great outdoors, forcing me to slow down (good for wellbeing) and think about my surroundings and really appreciate the wonders of the natural world. The challenge of capturing a good shot comes in second, and the last part is sharing an image that I've enjoyed creating and seeing what reactions I get. No doubt social media has enhanced my enjoyment of photography.
Henry M8, this is you at your finest. I watch a lot of Landscape Photography on RUclips, I can get endless discussions and plugs for gear😠 anywhere and it's very tiring and I just click off instantly. What's special is learning about your philosophy, experience, adventure and passion for Landscape Photography. THAT'S WHAT INSPIRES , all the more so if there's no hint of commercial motive behind the sentiments. May you never lose the thrill of anticipation. 🙏
Another winner of a video Henry - thanks! I grew up in the rural landscape of Minnesota and for me the peace and solitude of the woods and lakes have always been my passion. I retired in SE Michigan from an engineering career just before covid hit so I had the perfect excuse to get out with the camera to explore the hundreds of small nature areas in the area. Each landscape challenges me with something new and unique to photograph, drawing on my love of the technical aspects of landscape shooting and carrying me right back to what I loved as a child. What's not to love about landscape photography! 😊
Nailed it henry. I have limited time for pure photography trips. So when i get something nailed in the calendar (like i have for this sunday) i get the rush of excitement. Batteries get charged, lenses get cleaned, ideas start to bubble up. Its the best.
A big part of photography is about sharing for me too! I think, particularly as my photography has improved over the years, I look forward to sharing some of my photos on social media. Before, when I wasn't as good, and was still 'practicing' I was a bit embarrassed but now I actually enjoy it.
I love when you make an image that really captures both the landscape as you saw it and the feelings you had when taking it. Looking at that image again and again re-ignites those feelings and makes it all worth while.
It’s like panning for gold or searching for pearls in a clam, you never know if you’re going to get what you’re looking for but the possibility is the exciting part of the whole experience 😊.
Really enjoy your videos, but I'm often reminded me of the character on the 'Fast Show' who walked along a path talking to camera and everything was 'Brilliant!' Keep being enthusiastic, don't lose your mojo!
Henry, thanks again for your inspiring videos. I know for me, there have been times when I carry a small little toy in my pocket and I take a picture of that toy and sharing it in my larger pictures to see if anyone catches it in the shot.. It may seem a little weird, but sometimes it lightens the mode when I can't get something else or feel like I am getting very generic shots. I am finally getting a chance to catch up on your videos, thanks again.
For me it's documenting our beautiful planet, how you see it. Sometimes I think heaven is truly on earth and landscape photographers are the lucky ones, as we get to see it a lot 👍
True, most passions involve a cycle of inspiration, anticipation, execution and reflection. With landscape being so vast and variable there’s an infinity of ways of capturing it even as just an archival record. When you try to convey that wow factor of the live experience through a picture, there’s another infinity of options. Unlimited except by passion, patience and vision. That inlet is gobsmacking, a favourite local haunt. Tread lightly if you visit.
Great video, full of passion, which makes me smile 😃 I take photographs to record my happiness and excitement of seeing new places, and love to share them via social media with friends and family. When I look back at my photos I remember my feelings of being in that place 😀
Your videos give me 'the thrill of anticipation'... just love your work as you inspire my own photography even though I am only a hobbyist... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😉
Happy Birthday Henry. Hope your day and the next many many trips around the sun are filled with family, friends, love, laughter and a never ending “Thrill of Anticipation”. 📷🌄🎂🙌
Henry, mate, you are such a joy to watch and congrats for all your videos. For me, as a landscape photographer, it is all about get connected with the nature and feel how time slows down and simply enjoy all the little details and the big picture as well. Nature/landscape photography for me is pure therapy, Simply as that. Cheers from the Pyrenes Mountains and hope to get here some day. Would be such an amazing oportunity to meet you and share magic moments of photography out on these mountains.
When I am out somewhere wild , I like to imagine I'm years in the past and there is no industry, only nature , the sounds and the sights are not blighted by any human interaction or pollution and I'm photographing as it was ...Great video as always , my wife was from Carnarvon , ill have to ask her if your pronunciation was correct :)
Happiest of birthdays to you Henry. Your father's card is adorable 🥰 Did he draw/ paint it himself? The passion for landscape photography for me keeps getting stronger and stronger each time I go out. 'The thrill of the hunt' gets me out there, as I usually come back with something quite unexpected. Even if it's just a beautiful walk in some fresh air for a couple of hours to unclutter my thoughts and mind. Keeping myself open to different options and adapting to the conditions has definitely been key too.
Another fun video! For me, photography is the art of discovery! I learn something new on every outing! I discover truths about myself and about the nature that surrounds me! I’m never disappointed as great images are considered to be a bonus to my experience. Thanks for taking me along!
Happy Birthday mate. Yes I love sharing my photos and seeing feedback. Its brilliant to hear people say it reminds me off .... when i could walk out and go on to tell their story of their adventures. Its also good to have feedback from yourself to. Thanks mate have a good evening.
Absolutely love the Mono triptych! Very artistic and dramatic, Henry. I don’t mind sharing, but do mind handing over a photo for a club Photobook and having it cropped without my permission!
I was wondering y the Blue Jay was taking a rest ! Absolutely agree the joy of anticipation out weights the realisation of reality !! was it just me or did that bay look like a bum imprint ! hope you enjoyed the time with the family !! and had a great birthday ! Happy Birthday.
lovely images this week Henry. Although landscape photography is not my main genre, I do enjoy the opportunity to be out which is normally at the coast. For me, the main thing I get out of it (and its the same for my architectural work) it's a state of mind and the feeling of wellbeing just being out there and the release from anything else that is happening at that time in my life
You never know what's around the corner that just about sums up photography, I always share my pictures on social media! the other day someone actully wanted to buy one! I gave it to them and why not it never cost me anything....
Happy birthday to start off with Henry, another great video, on your point of sharing, I share my images on social media fb, instagram, but this year I have started doing local pop up markets selling prints, it's great having your friends liking your images, but the thrill of selling an image to a complete stranger knowing it is going to hang on a wall in there house, it was overwhelming when it happened for the 1st time, I will admit I had tears in my eyes when it happened
Hi Henry, thanks for another grand day out and for sharing. Ynys y Fydlyn was the venue for today unless I'm mistaken. Went there a few years ago but stupidly didn't take a camera. The images in my head though, are ones I treasure. Try the cafe at Melin Llynon, Llanddeusant ( the windmill ), they used to do awesome cakes!. Enjoy the island, its a lovely spot.
A great location and an interesting video. Its the solitude and headspace that I enjoy when out doing some photography as i have a habit of chasing around like a mad thing normally
Another super video Henry in a great location. Happy birthday to you and brilliant work on your Dad's part with the card, I imagine that they are very proud of you.
Kristine Richer of Kristine Rose photography, emphasises the importance of printing and sharing that, she says it's like a legacy, because when you die, no one will be hunting your hard drive for images
Sharing for me is a contest. I post my absolute “banger” of a cloud inversion in the lakes, smile at my 50 likes and see if I can get more than “Sharon outdoors” selfie on a gym machine 😂
Cheers Henry, it’s Sean in Atlanta! I sent you a PM wishing you a happy birthday! I hope it was a smashing day! I noticed you using your Olympus quite often. Are you preferring that over your Nikon? It’s certainly a lot lighter and easier to carry around. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts about it. Happy birthday once again and great video! Thanks! Sean
I have to admit Henry I'm in your camp. I am not like Mark Denny meticulously plans every single thing he does and goes out and then shoots that particular scene. I don't mind that kind of rationale so to speak but I actually much prefer just to head out to a spot doesn't matter what conditions and just see what I can find and look at the world as this open box. And seeing what we can create from what we are given there's too many people who sit on Weather apps and all these different things and they try and get the perfect shot. All those landscape photographers who go to the same spot everyone else goes to like that tree in New Zealand, which I have no interest in shooting. I really like the way you think and exploring an area and seeing what you can find.
Diolch - for at least not totally butchering the beautiful Welsh language. A language with place names, that in themselves tell stories. Names that often best describe the landscape we are looking at. And then lovely images 👍
Thanks a lot for all the birthday wishes as well all, much appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Happy belated Birthday!
Happy Belated Birthday, hope you had a fantastic day

Landscape photography makes a good walk even better.

Sharing beauty with the world.
And on the point of “sharing”, I think sharing thoughts/the images/the outings that don’t meet expectations is valuable - it helps keep it real.
Really enjoy your videos, but I'm often reminded me of the character on the 'Fast Show' who walked along a path talking to camera and everything was 'Brilliant!' Keep being enthusiastic, don't lose your mojo!

Don’t think you missed out too much round that headland Henry. From memory you’d have to go some way round to get some foreground interest.
Happy Birthday Henry! Hope you had a wonderful day!

Sharing, I think that's the buzz.
A great location and an interesting video. Its the solitude and headspace that I enjoy when out doing some photography as i have a habit of chasing around like a mad thing normally
Happy Birthday. Great video. You nailed it. The thrill of the hunt for that exceptional shot keeps me motivated.
Happy Birthday Henry. Funnily enough it was my sons birthday yesterday as well, also my wifes birthday and my mums too. One expensive month for me 🥳
Another super video Henry in a great location. Happy birthday to you and brilliant work on your Dad's part with the card, I imagine that they are very proud of you.
Thanks 👍
Happy birthday 🎉. Enjoy!
Thank you! 🤗
Belated Happy birthday Henry 📸🥳
Happy birthday Henry 🎂

great video
Love the B&W pics. Video and location spot on. Making memories 👍
