The only female I’d ever known to take a romantic interest in him before, was an Ogryn on R&R and she’d been drunk at the time.” - one of the best lines I've ever heard and it's based in the Grimdark of the far future.
That fact that Ogryn's get R&R is so wholesome in this universe lol. I wonder who would regret it more in the morning? Jurgen when he got a good look at her in the sunlight or the Ogryn when she got a wiff of him.
"I prefer Blondes" is such an amazing line. I lost my shit. I fucking love Cain and I probably spend way too much time thinking about him. My take away is that Cain is not a coward and only portrays himself that way due to a sort of survivor's guilt. Anyways, great job as always.
I think my favorite when he kills another Slaaneshi Sorceress later is "Impersonating an Inquisitor is a capital offense." And the look of shock on the woman's face as she dies is hilarious.
This guy survival instinct is just insane. Breaks of the temptations influence of Slaanesh follower can’t be a easy thing to do for normal humans. But I do love the “If it’s too good to be true” part because it’s is kind of true.
Cain is just such a treasure, he's 40k's most relatable character, just a dude with imposter syndrome trying to survive the madness of the far future He's a commissar but he didn't get a choice, nobody who goes to the schola does, you either adapt or die/enslaved for worse duties than being a stormtrooper, commissar, scribe etc. Cain didn't choose his line of work But my god did he choose how to navigate it And who hasn't told a lie or two to make your career a little easier eh?
Two of my favorite characters in 40k (that are human) is Ciaphas Cain and Sabastian Yarrick. I always thought if they ever met it would be like a buddy cop comedy with Yarrick grizzled old veteran and Cain charismatic up start.
Cain is a prime example of "failing upwards". In life sometimes people with the best intent & character work hard on their goals but fail and sometimes people with selfish motives & questionable judgement make it without trying, truly a great cosmic comedy with a lot of tragedy we all live in :'D

By far my favorite character in 40K. And I do believe the the Emperor does love to personally fuck with Cain. Cain is probably his favorite source of entertainment, throwing him in these situations and watching him get out of it. " This time he definitely won't survive hahaha.... DAMN IT "
My hunch is that the Emprah really does favor Cain and even sees something of his old self in him, which is why he puts Cain through all this insanity. I think it's likely that the Emprah finds it entertaining to kinda live vicariously by watching the good commissar, and it doesn't hurt that he can be depended on to get the toughest jobs done when it counts.
Cain has the most extreme form of imposter syndrome of all time. In virtually every combat situation, though internally he is panicking and looking for a way out, he goes out of his way to save people and get shit done. Though in his mind he claims that he only does it because the alternative would be shame, he regardless has accomplished everything attributed to him. Because of his attempt at deserting against the tyranids was an actual fluke, he believes that everything he’s done since is a fluke too, whether it is or not.
One of my favourite characters, who else has managed to reach the lofty rank of commissar through nothing other than pure selfishness and cowardice? He's succeeded in not just surviving but thriving and obtained heroic rep status as well. More good stuff from ABORDERPRINCE 👌
