Jesus the game's UI is beautiful in this video and very functional. It's an absolute mess in the newer version I bought yesterday. What were they thinking??
That is usually what happens when people keep tinkering with UI. They only end up overcomplicating it. Look at YT itself. Every iteration just hides useful stuff and gives you more stuff you will never click on.

I'd really like to see an actual tutorial video, of the actual tutorial in the game. It says "build the wood shop" thing but when you click, nothing happens, and there's no explanation on how to actually build something. I don't get it.
Click an icon in the bar. Then a choice appears above that bar in the center. As it's the beginning of the game, you have only 1 option, but still, you have to choose it. Building is a two clicks thing. Even for path. Not just 1 click. It ain't instantly obvious at all, I definitely agree.
It's not a very good manual. Because a main problem of this game - lots useless upgrade, that bring lot of buildings. So in late, you cannot get normal buildings (and others) with random from Queen. So, will be pleasure to observe upgrades for sense about them.

The problem is I get carried away as I am a really big fan of gaming and passionate about it. The second issue is that by nature I am fast and have a hard time slowing down my actions. But I do realize it's a problem and I continue to work on it. I am glad my video guide was of help to you!

Build menu is at the bottom. Wood cutter's camp is in the first menu part of the build menu.
