This is one of the more interesting games I’ve seen in awhile. Kind of a strange bird really. It has lots of small but very addictive mechanics that keeps your interest throughout the run. I like games with a definite win condition that don’t overstay their welcome.
Yes, I definitely agree on your points there. A real refreshing game, which is just fun, without trying to be overly innovative or anything like that. And I really like the "easy to pick up and difficult to master" vibe I got from this game.
Great video. Two small caveats (and this may be a result of balance tweaks from months ago): In order to keep up with construction and fuel, I always use 2 lumber mills, tossing 6 beavers at them if possible. Yes, take them off for storm if need be but that's usually not necessary if you get enough resolve from racial job affinities (IE having harpies make raincoats, lizards do metalworking etc). Secondly I go hard for Plank production each time, the simple workstation just can't seem to give up. *** Lumberyard is my instant pick building as a result, but I at least try hard to get a ** one otherwise. Bricks, cloth etc is important too but planks are used almost everywhere.
I’ve got to be atleast 6/7 hours in and I just learned from this video you can move some of the buildings lmaoo. That makes it way easier. I was destroying and building new ones every single time
Plan! you have to plan your route to success. Every map has a summary that shows what resources are available on the map. Don't rush picking your blueprints. You want to aim at producing complex food your settlers like. Each race has their own specific needs. If you meet these needs, their resolve will go up when it gets high enough your reputation will slowly increase over time. City building remember houses need to be places near your hearth some building can't be moved so clear out an area away from the hearth but close to your warehouse. Roads don't underestimate roads. Every camp for gathering resources stock piles it before carrying it to the warehouse with smart placement and roads. You can speed up these processes, especially the further a camp is from a warehouse.
another thing is to hold off on picking orders, newcomers &/or drafts if you don't have sufficient resources for them you don't want to pick orders that would just sit there because there's no building/ingredient to fulfill the demand and certainly dont want to drain food with idle pop either though i guess this isn't really unique to this game
Even in settler mode??? I made ALL the mistakes mentioned in this video (9 woodcutter round the clock, speed running every small glade, dumping all my resources into the sacrificial fire and plenty more) and i still win at pioneer difficulty, albeit with a rough mid to late game of sweating.
Do you mean Woodcutters? Or Woodcutters' Camps? Because I find having two full camps is optimal 90% of the time, with 6 Woodcutters (Beavers) in total.
Hi, I just bought this game yesterday, I played it for like 7 hours straight 😂😂 it’s pretty darn good imo. One thing I don’t like about it (but obviously have settled for it ultimately) is how on each settlement, ultimately the goal is just to reach moderate sustainability. I say moderate because a really expensive glade event or something like that could still wipe out half the colonies I established, but it’s not really my fault because the crown deems my colony worthy and it tells me to move on lol 😂😂 like uhh… okay we’re barely teetering on a sustainable food source, currently in the process of a glade event most times, and it’s just like yay you win! Time to move on and forget everything you just did! Lol I’m not sure I like it yet. I haven’t done this yet, but I think I might like to one of these times tell the crown to kick rocks and stay on a colony, cuz Jesus dude some of the maps they give me are HUGE! The first time I really scrolled around to look at it I was like “oh jeez wow that’s dope I can really flesh out these dudes quite a bit” and then like 35 seasons later I “beat” the level and was offered the opportunity to move on. I was like well, I do wanna see what else is available to me in the game so reluctantly I moved on but I may just hang for awhile today when I play next on a single colony and buff it out all beastly and massive haha
@@Jetmanuver so it’s a city building game, much like age of empires. You start with a town hall and a few dudes, and you click on various features of the environment to que them up for ur little guys to hack up for resources. So there’s that- but then there’s this kind of interesting spin laid over the top of it, and that is the world map. Each area ring out from the starting central mountain is a different biome and a progressively harder difficulty to get out. Your job is just to get each village along the way to sustainable levels, and then you unlock the next ring and another location to start again. The point is to attempt to make it to the edge of the world, and thus “out of the storm” to entertain the games language of phrase. In each world there are blank spots covered by a fog of war until you hack a pathway through the forest to them, then they uncover and reveal often times a timed event, bandits, cursed locations that require sacrifice, stuff like that. Stuff that makes you drop everything you were doing and call an audible to address what comes next. It’s highly entertaining, not much replay-ability though. Once you beat it once it’s kinda a wrap after that cuz it’s just the same rinse and repeat thing again. The devs were talking about introducing new modes that cater to more replayability, but it’s only been out for a little bit now, think it came out this summer, so it’s still a bit early to draw final conclusions on it.
I love this game but I'm starting to struggle now at Veteran/Viceroy... it does get very challenging and the RNG for blueprints and glades (and events) can mess with you a lot. Didn't really think small glades were as unimportant as they might be, but thinking back on it I can remember plenty of situations where I open up a small glade and go "well that was pointless"...
Thanks for the tip with the smaller glades, I just tend to discover them but youre right they usually dont pay off. When do you start to discover dangerous glades? I usually build a small stock of resources first. Why don't you build paths as this increases movement speed and rotate buildings towards the storage location?
After reading multiple positive reviews about Against the Storm I bought the game. It is the most boring game I have ever played. I am at least glad it was on sale for 50% off, so not too painful.
I wouldn’t even call these tips, it’s just explanation of the basic concepts of this game, most of which you realize in the first 10 minutes of your gameplay. On the other hand, it doesn’t spoil the experience of discovering all these hidden mechanics and strategies on your own.
Well, the label says: "For Beginners". That's why it has very basic advice. Many people actually skip over tutorials or just click over them and don't read them. Or some people even skip just through the tutorial and prefer to watch YT vids. Or whatever. So I'm not quite sure what you're fuzzed up about here.

really addictive indeed
the win condition is to get the blue bar full, right?
Came for ten good tips and ten good tips I got. Thank you! Fun game, the tutorial doesn't tell you much so I think this is a good watch.
Thanks for the tips. I made it to the first bronze seal but started struggeling after I started playing on veteran. Those tips helped alot!

This was really helpful! I've won my first few scenario's by using your tips and tricks! Thank you very much!
Very helpful. This really gave me good insight in prioritizing drafting picks

jesus fuck
I spent 30 minutes recovering from having no wood and clawed my way back to a win lol

This was really helpful thanks alot!
I uninstalled 3 times in a row, but after viewing this video I took the last chance and passed my first full successfull cycle. THANKS MAN :D

I was referring to two camps, sorry if I had put that out in a confusing way. 6 Woodcutters are in most biomes are real good start, yes.

what is the main goal of this game? is it to fight another player or what?

Well some people learn this game in no time, some people just don't see the forest for all it's trees.
Tip 1 is literally the core game mechanic and tip 2 is another game mechanic explained in the tutorial. Talk about low hanging fruit.
