    I just failed the lead seal on Veteran, and man it felt bad. I should have done Pioneer, but I moved to Veteran several games ago and was handling it just fine so I thought it would be okay. It was not okay. The issue was not fuel or hostility. Sticking to the overgrown trees pretty much takes care of those issues. I also had a great food setup and multiple services and clothes online. It was going so well, until I got to the last seal order. I didn't have harpy houses, so the high resolve one was impossible. I hadn't set up rainpunk at all because I had several negative map modifiers related to blightrot and corruption. And the last one required stone tablets. I busted open SO MANY glades looking for them. I didn't find them until it was too late, and my impatience ran out 1 minute after I found them which wasn't enough time to get them to my storage. In retrospect, if I had just gone for the rainpunk one, I would have beat it because those negative modifiers would have caused more cysts to pop up and I needed to burn like 30 cysts. Now, I know next time: the stone tablets one is a big risk, go for the rain engines. Also, I have harpy houses now so maybe the resolve one will work out next time.

    • @FiniteSteakMachine
      @FiniteSteakMachine 9 месяцев назад +5

      This exact thing happened to me on my first try at the lead seal, also on veteran. I even found the tablets I needed, but didn't have enough time left to resolve the event and bring them back to a warehouse. (I forgot at the time that I could have sacrificed sea marrow to speed it up).
      But my real big mistake was earlier. I didn't look closely at the stacking (!!!) resolve consequence of doing a particular event, and I lost lots of people and gained lots of impatience, which is why I ran out in the end. I didn't even need the reward for the event. It was a silly mistake but something I learned a lot from, and the next attempt at the seal I didn't even get half way through impatience, despite still taking another couple of years to find enough tablets.
      Another tip: on seal games, don't always take the resolve rewards you're used to taking on other games, you really need the resources this time. You may also need amber, but you'll get much more from trade routes than events anyway.
      Another another tip: Micro manage "favoring" races to reduce how many people leave. It buys you just enough time for one race to not leave, and by the time the others are about to leave, the storm or glade event may already be over.

      @@FiniteSteakMachine Thanks for the tips! That was the first game I lost because other than a few veteran games, I was only playing the easy difficulties. I thought I'd be super upset, but I was actually okay with it. I still got the same amount a food and learned a lot.
      For me, I didn't lose villagers from resolve or hunger, I lost them from that plague of death because I didn't even know you could see what plague is coming by looking at the seal, so I wasn't in a position to open 2 glades when the storm hit. That is a rough one. It was only 3 villagers, but that impatience was enough to lose me the game.

      @@meaghanjones6725 That's what happened for my bronze seal run. I was really hoping it would happen for the lead, but NOPE.
      I just did the silver seal today, and I found almost 20 tablets before the last round of orders! I was just flabbergasted. That map was practically hurling tablets at me. So I knew from very early that I'd be able to do the last order, but it still took 12 years because the forbidden glades were so far away. And to add insult to injury, I even rolled the tablet cornerstone when I had like 12 tablets already, lol. This game really knows how to twist the knife.

    my to go strat till no prestige difficulty (meaning: donno if it works at higher difficulties) is: start with farm, aim for 3 star oil production, fish for temple, sacrifice a lot of oil. just closed the gold seal, year 10 (guess was a couple of years later?) temple was -600 hostility. Another s tier building is merchant guild (?) that increase determination every 75(?) goodies sold (at list, before the difficulty that decrease amber earnt by trading)

    This biome was my first ever (Impatience) loss in the game, on Veteran. Yes it was the Silver Seal.
    Got it on the 2nd attempt. I went for Oil after I noticed on my previous attempt that I keep running out of Wood, even if I was converting some of them to Coal. Coal was really just not enough. Then I basically did what Ic0n said before I even watched this video, so yeah, I can confirm these tips are great.
    Also, any perks that adds Wood production are great since you need to cut less trees. And as usual, as soon as the game starts, look at the Forest Mysteries so you can prepare for their negative consequences. If there's anything that can kill or make your villagers leave, perks that give you resources in exchange for them can be worth it.

    I just beat the platinum seal yesterday...I was so tense during the storms, each year I was losing 5-10 villagers, still scraped up enough to win, but I don't know how I will win the next one, the prestige 6 modifier which increases building cost is such a steep difficulty spike. Planks are so needed and wood is so scarce...

      Well I had a few strips where I just wasn't able to get the tooltip off. There's a strip of em on my map where I "think" they should be overgrown ones, but despite all my efforts I need to chop them up to somehow get the tooltip to show. It's not much, I know the visual outlining is there. But it did make me insecure when I was new to the map when sometimes they were shown as overgrown and sometimes they didn't.

    Best tip : reforging seal always ask the same kind of missions (or quest) : trade routes level 2, happiness, gold, solve 2 forbidden glades, reputation points, etc.
    Knowing theses missions make it extremely easy to prepare for it.
    The trade lord route is the easiest way to solve reforging seal :
    Have one cornestone providing provisions, max your trades routes as soon as possible reaching level 2 with 3 routes and saving the gold generated by these routes.
    If you know what you are doing, you gonna open the seal glade at year 2 or 3 with already one or 2 missions done.
    You then just need to rush the gold (80 at prestige 10) and finish the seal with the 2 forbidden glades or the happiness (harder to succeed if you have humans/beaver).

    Oil is king. Get farms , oil producing buildings , produce tons of grain and a ranch

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  7 месяцев назад

      Quality advice. This map is so made for oil production.

  • @FiniteSteakMachine
    @FiniteSteakMachine 9 месяцев назад +2

    I'm not sure oil is better than sea marrow as fuel. Oil requires drafting and staffing at least one Press, if not more. It consumes resources you could have put towards food needs, or traded for amber which is extra useful during seals because one of the requirements is easiest to close with amber. Reeds can also be used for fabric which can bottleneck mid game buildings (including Lizard and Harpy houses) and late game clothing for much-needed resolve. Ingredients you get from farming only refresh once per year and take most of the season to harvest, meaning you could have no production for the entire storm. You could have stockpiled food and clothing instead, not only helping resolve directly but also mitigating some of the high hostility storm effects.
    You always start with the full size stonecutter camp blueprint for harvesting large sea marrow, and it doesn't need any blueprints or staff to process from there. Even if you only have one set of nodes, unlike farms, you can harveset them faster by building more camps. Its sacrifice bonus can save you from running out of time on a glade event, possibly saving a whole run. As if that wasn't enough, recipes typically require 2 units of oil vs 1 sea marrow, meaning fewer runs to warehouses and less hearth fuel wasted.
    In theory the fully renewable farms should be more attractive than finite sea marrow nodes. On the one hand, you're going to run out of impatience before you run out of resource nodes. On the other hand, you might want to stop opening more glades to keep hostility down, so you may not have access to sea marrow but still have farms available. You can even switch what each farm does each year. That can make oil a worthwhile backup option, but personally I wouldn't draft a Press just for this contingency.
    Last small thing: If you take Woodcutter's Prayer, you lose all of your oil and sea marrow on the spot, but you don't lose the ingredients to make more oil. You can't really plan around this, but it could help, especially with how useful this cornerstone is if you roll it early in a seal game.

    • @telemnarnumenorean8557
      @telemnarnumenorean8557 9 месяцев назад

      it depence on what cornerstones you have. Forexample having +1 for every 25 made on anything that can be made into fuel is overpowered, 100% bonus for every building which uses fertile soil, 50% bonus for small farm, even flat +1 or +2 bonus to wheat/meat/oil production is very effective. You can run all food and fuel on 2 farms for the whole game if you are lucky. There is also a cornerstone that gives you 5 oil or coal per minute etc, which by itself is enough to run the hearth without anything else.

    Question: Can you de-staff farm buildings during the storm, so the workers can be used as builders? I think fields are only planted in drizzle, and harvested in clearance? Do the workers do anything at the farms (plowing?) during storm?
