Isn't a PR Bond just a signature bond promising you'll be at court with no money needed? How did that strangler get that? I've seen ppl with weed paraphernalia get 5k bonds set. He knows someone, maybe the magistrate.

I’m surprised that any court allows lawyers on zoom to essentially advertise their firm/law practice by making their background into what is basically almost a billboard! It’s very tacky, a cheap trick and all it tells you is that they have no reputation and their last resort is to advertise on zoom court! It wouldn’t be allowed in regular court!
It's not about the money, and also, he gets that money back. It's bond, which means that he puts up a pile of money to assure the court that he'll show up and won't do anything stupid in the meantime. If he follows the directions, he gets the money back. In this case, the judge didn't even require him to put up the full amount, only 10% or $2500. He gets that back if shows up and stays out of trouble. In other states, he'd have to pay that $2500 (or so) to a bonding company, which would be responsible for collecting him if he doesn't show up, and he wouldn't get back the fee. In Michigan, the courts and the cops handle it all, so you get it all back.
Judge Simpson is speaking to a defendant who is there in person and is giving them his full attention. It's a bit silly to expect him to waste his energy on having an eye on his computer at all times to babysit people in the Zoom waiting room.
