  • Out of the 450 students at Glen Lake Elementary School in Minnesota, nine of them use a wheelchair. One of those nine kids is the son of 5th and 6th-grade teacher Betsy, who realized the school's playground was not inclusive to students with disabilities. Betsy shares the emotional story of how her class rallied around their fellow students who use wheelchairs, and raised over $500,000 to completely revamp their playground to be accessible to everyone.

Mrs. Julien was my teacher in 6th grade and her husband was one of my youth group leaders! They are both some of the nicest and most wonderful people. The school she currently teaches at is the richest elementary school in the district (I live in the district) and the fact that they had to raise the money on their own really says something about how underfunded schools really are.

As a fellow teacher all I can say is that you are AWESOME! I live in a very poor country and my monthly budget is approximately $400 USD a month and anything above that I use to help the community that I live in. One way that I do this to get my students involved is to buy groceries and then let them deliver them so they get to see the joy that a simple small act of kindness can create. I love stories about teachers Kelly and I thank you for your heart. You are one very special young lady. Blessings

She was my teacher and she was by far the best teacher I ever had. She had her mom and her grandparents come in on Fridays and spend time with all of us, she visited every single kid's house to meet their families, and she also went to my church and her husband was one of my youth group leaders and he was just as nice. And now, 15 years later, I'm a teacher too!

$135 000 for accessible swing damn

ya I was I thinking if these companies who are building these swings, if they are trying to make money with such things because they know somebody is going to pay for it? 135k seems a but much. I feel like in every area where you don't have no choice but to pay, the prices are way too high, like medical devices or health care in general, funerals, stuff for old or disabled people, ... Looks like there are some heartless people that make money with the problems others have.

Not the little ones where you pick up the kid and strap them into those green chairs. This is an industrial, can hold a 100lb wheelchair plus a 100 lb kid sort of swing. You're also factoring in shipping something that's over a literal ton in weight and then you need to hire someone to install it so it's safe for the kids to use.
