Read her autobiography. She loved him from the time she was picking cotton in her youth, before she actually met him. He saved her from an abusive marriage. So sad that he repeated the same actions when he was loaded. But that’s addiction. Through it all, and forever after, they loved each other. I don’t think they ever fully got over each other, though George had an incredible wife in his Nancy for 20 years. Had to be hard for her, in Tammy’s shadow.
I think Tammy continued to love George long after they were divorced. You can feel it in this video. Tammy couldn't make George stop drinking. One of his subsequent wives straightened him out.
