Thanks! Yeah, I was walking pretty briskly, I believe when we went to the airport the second time after this with all our bags, we just kind of chill walked. And it was several minutes longer.
When one considers that three of every two trains (not a typo) have had issues, I am not a rider. Shame as it can save money (parking) and time. If I could only trust it.
They were available at the Ashburn station and only one of the machines, and one of the station managers showed me which machine. There might be some left tomorrow, but I don’t know it was the second machine from the left
Is there any room to store your luggage on the silver line? Since many people will start using this now to get to DC center, it would be convenient (especially since it takes about an hour to get there).
Nope, and if you have a flight during rush hour, what a disaster. You might not even be able to fit on the train with your luggage. However, if you have a non rush hour flight, the metro shouldn't be too crowded. Often times the seat next to you is open, or you can find a seat by the door with leg room space to put you bag. Not really recommended for more than a carryon though.
Don’t understand why they haven’t thought about this. I’ll be in DC for a week next year and will bring along a 20kg suitcase. I guess a lot of international tourists will do as well. I don’t want to bother any other people on the silver line with my bulky luggage, but on the other hand I’m saving a lot of money using metro. Fortunately my flights arrive/depart mid afternoonish.
@@jordyvanbuel I've seen couples on the metro with 2 giant bags and 2 carryons cramming into the metro before. I've never seen a metro/subway with any kind of luggage area in any city in the US though.
@@jordyvanbuel this is Northern Va/DC don’t worry about bothering people, you should be able to fit on the metro with whatever luggage you have, you might have to go to the first or last car those are normally a little less populated as most people get off escalators and wait for the train which lands them in the middle cars, most people don’t want to walk down to the end cars
i worked at NASA and would take the metro from Reston Whiele to Federal Center in SW DC. Took an hour, $6 fare each way plus $5 parking. I never knew when the train would show up or when i would arrive. $17 a day to ride metro plus the whole who knows when thing. Did that for a year than just drove. I could not fathom at the time how inconvenient it would be to come from Loudon into DC proper. Now that its a reality, I have zero interest in finding out.
I've metroed from Whiele a bunch to DC. It is HELL. Takes forever. So boring. And when I drive the toll road there is NEVER traffic and I drive faster than the metro runs. I can't imagine actually using the Ashburn metro to commute. Maybe to go to a Nats game or if you go out drinking in DC. But the commute would be awful. I'd actually drive to Rosslyn, park a half mile from the metro for free, then metro the rest of the way in before I commuted from Ashburn.
I rode it on opening day, when all the bosses were there, and everything was on the news, and it took 1 hour to get to dulles from DC. I'd expect during rush hour once people start slacking it is going to take 1:15 which is a LONG time. Silver line is super slow and goes slower than cars on the road. Driving from DC would save 30 minutes.
Living in Loudoun County, the Silver Line extension is awesome. Rode it to DC this weekend. This saves me driving, saves gas and the environment. I plan on using it often. The connection to both airports is a bonus.
Nice, yeah we used to go from Wiehle before this opened and that took a long time. I want to re-visit in 3 months and see if it is still running efficiently. On opening day everything was on time and to the schedule by the second. But also every Metro big wig and even politicians were there so they were really trying.
Take it to ashburn then either walk or uber from there to Over near Carmax as there is a target and wegmans and other car dealers and lots of other stores and restaurants as well.
Love your videos
Thanks for watching!!!
It's going to take me 10 minutes to do the same walk.
Great content.

Terrific video!
Thanks!
@@DMVAdventures You're Welcome!
Took forever for them to get it done but I’m glad they’re finished, the express lanes on I66 are coming along nicely as well
Express lane video coming up I think. I've already spent $25 worth of tolls on them so far and that was just 3 trips
@@DMVAdventures yea I only use Em if I think I absolutely have to and the price is less than )$2.50
Thanks for the quick overview!
No prob, it was quite boring to do lol but I felt like I had to do it for the people, haha.

Great vid. Very informative 👍

Where’d you get the limited edition SmartTrip card?

As a total noob to the DMV, this is heat info. Thanks! Maybe I'll bump into you making a vid some day.
I'm out there around, and until I get a haircut/shave very easy to spot, lol

Yep, done and open!
This area will probably improve over time as more transit-oriented development fills in around the stations.

How long does slow ass metro take? It’s slower than other light rail
Wiehle-Reston to Dulles is 12 min. Federal Triangle to Dulles is 1 hour.
