    Just came back from a trip to DC. I rode the silver line from Dulles to L'Enfant Plaza when I got there. You can enjoy the entire city without the need for a car. Truly spectacular system. It's clean, efficient, safe, affordable and reaches most every part of the greater DC area. Saving up now to go back!

    I'm sooo glad to see the extension finally open to traffic after so many years of wait. Just I feel sorry to see that the airport station is not integrated with the terminal. It's a missed opportunity to build a world-class communication hub, and instead the passengers have to lug their luggage between the train and the terminal.
    Anyway, I'm looking forward to ride the trains any time I will be flying from/to Dulles.

    @csabasipos6525 2 года назад +3

    I do hope that this is still some sort of trial run, as if this is the speed you can expect from a completely new, elevated subway system than we have a problem... Completely straight sections of track, where the train only does 60-70kmph... In some areas even less. When you spend billions, the expected speed is a 100.

    • @jimnicholls2911
      @jimnicholls2911 2 года назад +2

      I was thinking the same. It seems to be very slow. I don’t understand how something on rails operated by a professional in a controlled environment is not allowed to go at least as fast as the uncontrolled chaos of vehicles driving next to it.

    • @csabasipos6525
      @csabasipos6525 2 года назад

      @@jimnicholls2911 The interesting thing is that when I look at US (or Australian) light rail, metro or tram projects, the single common point is how slow they are. Most often than not the reason is simple: they did not spend the amount of money required to make it fast (too man tight curves, crappy slow speed switches etc.), but in this case there is no clear visible reason to go this slow.

    • @MarloSoBalJr
      @MarloSoBalJr 2 года назад

      Safety.
      At most, 55 MPH is the required speed. You also have to factor in voltage from the third rails being able to handle 90 MPH speeds.

    • @abhinavpotluri9654
      @abhinavpotluri9654 Год назад +1

      The trains are operating a lot faster now (95 kmph - 105 kmph). I think they only operated it slow in this video.

    • @colinwinogradoff6794
      @colinwinogradoff6794 10 месяцев назад

      Hi, the average dwell time at a station is 15-30 seconds. During peak hours and at more crowded stations, the dwell time is up to 30 seconds to accommodate passengers on the platform. This is so riders can board & exit the train safely. -KA

      Thus is due to incompetence. Metro can't figure our how to open the doors on the correct side. So now the it takes 10 just to open the doors. This wastes more than 6 minutes to the schedule. This has been a problem for over 7 years

    It’s bewildering to me why the Dulles station doesn’t have a full cover over the platform. People are going on trips, maybe they’re dressed up, their hair is all done up nice to see family and friends…then they arrive at IAD in a downpour and WHAM! They’re soaked getting off the train. HOW does an airport station get designed without a full cover!? How doesn’t ANYONE in the design and construction process not see this as a problem? It seems the design of almost all of the other stations in this video provide for full protection from the elements. Such a fail of design at IAD.
