- Starting at Wiehle-Reston East station and ending at Ashburn station, take a real-time ride along the Silver Line Extension, checking out the 6 new stations along 11.4 miles of new track. Be sure to also take the accelerated ride at • Silver Line Extension ... .
Goodness, When I attended Howard University in the late 60’s, this extension was in the imagination stage, and now it’s here. AMAZING.
😍😍 -CC
Would be cool to see Metro do a video for all the lines in both directions.
Also, I like to watch POV from Ashburn to Ballston in both lapse time and real time.
We're glad that you like Timothy and we appreciate the feedback! Be on the lookout for other videos -KB
@@MetroForward That would be awesome! I know the CTA did one a couple years ago too
That would honestly be really cool
@Chris Pottorff More then 1, they did many of their lines and even a few bus lines in real time.
Just came back from a trip to DC. I rode the silver line from Dulles to L'Enfant Plaza when I got there. You can enjoy the entire city without the need for a car. Truly spectacular system. It's clean, efficient, safe, affordable and reaches most every part of the greater DC area. Saving up now to go back!
Thanks for sharing these kind words. We appreciate you for riding Metro and hope you have a great day. -KD
Love the progress bar on the top, proud to call WMATA my metro system
Thanks for filming this, can't wait to do this route on my next trip!
We'd ❤️ to have you riding with us! 😊🚊 -MG
PLEASE MAKW RIDE ALONGS FOR ALL THE LINES! THESE ARE GREAT VIDEOS
Awesome! Thanks for POV in real time!
As a railfan and electronic music composer, this was a very pleasant surprise
I wish LA Metro could do more videos just like this, either raw or edited! I really like this, especially how the stations are design for the most part.
Nice video. Gives us a glimpse of the new metro line. Need more videos of the other metro lines like this.
I was just thinking of riding this line to Ashburn in late June because I have already been to the terminus of all the other lines and then this video came up. Good job. I'm still going to do it. :)
Awesome! Make sure you tag us -KB
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Glad to hear! Thanks! -CC
I'm sooo glad to see the extension finally open to traffic after so many years of wait. Just I feel sorry to see that the airport station is not integrated with the terminal. It's a missed opportunity to build a world-class communication hub, and instead the passengers have to lug their luggage between the train and the terminal.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to ride the trains any time I will be flying from/to Dulles.
Thank you! We're so happy as well! -CC
Just a 40-year wait for this dream come true 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈 WMATA❤❤❤❤
Now everyone who goes to Dulles airport, they can now take the train in the future good job
WMATA can you all please do pov videos for all 6 lines? Loving this so much, especially for railfanners ❤🚇Ⓜ️
Edit: also can you do one without the bg music, just pure rail and train sound
Now all airports are connected by rail. IAD/DCA/BWI.
would be a neat thing if there were ride along videos for all the lines and all the stops. i’d totally watch em.
Visited DC in 2019 and saw this under construction so good to see it has been finished now... shame the trains are speed limited had this been in Perth Western Austlralia the trains would have been doing 130 km/hr for most of that trip
Fr, why American trains always have their speed capped?
Indeed, the average speed on the metro is 35 mph/53 kmh
(that's 80mph for US folks)
I know it doesn't look so convincing when the cars are going faster than it is and platforms are empty, but it's the peak hours that matter. This is going to be traffic's biggest friend.
And that’s it’s literary in the middle of a highway
@@spirit_plays you don't have to have one of these in the middle of the highway to prove it's worth.
@@RaisedLetter Idn mean like that I meant it in a bad way
also, the freeway that SV Phase 2 runs along is rarely congested, unlike SV Phase 1 between McLean and Ballston (which has regular back-ups from the VA-123 Chain Bridge Rd exit on VA-267 to Exit 71, Fairfax Dr on I-66)
Thanks so much for uploading this!
Our pleasure! 😍 -CC
Nice train ride friend
Glad to hear! -CC
This is dope
Glad that you like it Robert 😉 -KB
Thanks for part 2
Finally, I can visit the Museums and Pentagon City Mall (FYI: Looks empty nowadays) from Ashburn while i visit the Internet datacenters without taking a $100 cab ride for the day! P.S. Stare down at the tracks on the bottom and it looks like the video is zooming in when it is not !!!
Yes! Enjoy the ride! -CC
I do hope that this is still some sort of trial run, as if this is the speed you can expect from a completely new, elevated subway system than we have a problem... Completely straight sections of track, where the train only does 60-70kmph... In some areas even less. When you spend billions, the expected speed is a 100.
I was thinking the same. It seems to be very slow. I don’t understand how something on rails operated by a professional in a controlled environment is not allowed to go at least as fast as the uncontrolled chaos of vehicles driving next to it.
@@jimnicholls2911 The interesting thing is that when I look at US (or Australian) light rail, metro or tram projects, the single common point is how slow they are. Most often than not the reason is simple: they did not spend the amount of money required to make it fast (too man tight curves, crappy slow speed switches etc.), but in this case there is no clear visible reason to go this slow.
Safety.
At most, 55 MPH is the required speed. You also have to factor in voltage from the third rails being able to handle 90 MPH speeds.
The trains are operating a lot faster now (95 kmph - 105 kmph). I think they only operated it slow in this video.
The system can handle 120kmh, but due to poor management they're afraid to go over 90kmh even on 8km stretches of open track.
I wonder what time of the day this video was made. Like 5 passengers got on.
This was a very inciteful and interesting video. They did good work on this line and I was New York's Transit lines were cleaner but who knows Maybe the people will demand that for the cost to ride.
I wish this expansion was up and running 5 years ago. I would've saved money getting to Dulles
It reminds me a lot of BART, with the median rail stations.
Dear Metro, love hoppin the new fare gates...nothin beats the sound of six gates beeping from being hopped at the same time.
Nice video...how many rider per/day?????????????????????????????????
Hey there,
Thanks for your feedback! We're working on updating our ridership data page. Please look out for updates 👉 www.wmata.com/service/covid19/covid-19-public-information.cfm
Have a great evening!

Finally after 50 years, Metro is finally finished. Great Video. Ok here is the kicker, will Metro go to BWI? All major airports will be covered. Yes? an Orange line big extension to Anne Arundel County. It's possible.
BWI & anne arundle is more of the Baltimore metro area, not dc.
Finally, finally ...
I wish there wasn't music on this
Can you do this on all the lines? Except leave out the music and use the real noises in the background. I've been wanting to see what it's like at the very front of the trains for all of the Metrorail lines
All of this reminds of a dvd cab ride
nice.........
I think the dwell time is much too long but that goes for all the metro lines
Hi, the average dwell time at a station is 15-30 seconds. During peak hours and at more crowded stations, the dwell time is up to 30 seconds to accommodate passengers on the platform. This is so riders can board & exit the train safely. -KA
Thus is due to incompetence. Metro can't figure our how to open the doors on the correct side. So now the it takes 10 just to open the doors. This wastes more than 6 minutes to the schedule. This has been a problem for over 7 years
I will make a New Silver Line of more stations
I'm pretty sure this is in Buffalo, New York.
Is this in Virginia?
Yes, it is! -KB
Better late than never
We are 100 years behind other Metropolitan areas.
What city is this?!
Washington DC and west to Dulles international airport.
Where is this?
This is on the Silver Line showing the 6 new stations from Wiehle-Reston East station and ending at Ashburn station. -KB
@@MetroForward I meant what country is it? My guess is Australia 🇦🇺.
No, this is in the U.S. 🇺🇸
This is on the Metro in the Washington D.C. area. -KB
@@MetroForward Ah right.
👍👍 -CC
It’s bewildering to me why the Dulles station doesn’t have a full cover over the platform. People are going on trips, maybe they’re dressed up, their hair is all done up nice to see family and friends…then they arrive at IAD in a downpour and WHAM! They’re soaked getting off the train. HOW does an airport station get designed without a full cover!? How doesn’t ANYONE in the design and construction process not see this as a problem? It seems the design of almost all of the other stations in this video provide for full protection from the elements. Such a fail of design at IAD.
Could you upload one without music
mute the video
And with the sound of the train
I rather enjoyed that.
☮
We'll save a seat for you! 👍 -CC
what's the name of the music.
Hi Dominic! It's 'Binary Stars' by Stanley Gurvich, licensed through ArtList.io. -KB
@@MetroForward Love the music as well, is that what's playing between time stamps 2:22 and 7:48? Just to confirm and verify. Thanks! :)
Hello. Yes it's the same track. - MS
Great video, Thanks. Sorry the music is dreadful.
It was possible, of course, to leave the original sound and not to impose a melody...
I wish they had not put in this shitty music... just leave the sound of the rails and electric motor.
The music is obnoxious
Please please kill the music. If you don't have an audio recording of the video, just leave it in silence.
The mute button "M" is handy.
Wanted to watch this but the music is very off-putting. Sorry.
Get rid of the New Agey music and let us hear the train run.
Nice video ruined by music
Dislike because of the music. Very unnecessary.👎👎👎
Just hit the mute button, the letter M on your keyboard.
