You can actually see when the silver line opened by looking at WMATA's ridership data for West Falls Church. The numbers go from 10k to about 3k as commuters stopped transferring to buses there and switched to the new silver line. Also, I'm excited for the future Greensboro video!
i recently stayed at tyson’s corner and there is restaurant that has a room with a view in front of the tracks and you can see trains come and go from tyson’s station
@@sammymarrco47 I think it’s already starting to cement itself in my mind… I took one look at the Branch Ave substation in the parking lot today and I thought “oh look there’s a WMATA spicy fun house!”
Significant amounts of dense, mixed use development currently under construction adjacent to the stations (particularly the two Reston stations) should significantly boost silver line ridership in the coming years. Some of the car dealerships around Spring Hill have also closed, hopefully paving the way for better development there as well.
The reason ridership on Phase 1 changed so much from 2019-2024 is not entirely the pandemic, but also Phase 2 opened, so a lot of riders that would use Wiehle-Reston East now use stations like Ashburn, Dulles, and Reston Town Center which may be closer to their origin
Surprised you didn't mention that these were the first stations not built by WMATA. The state of VA contracted the construction and turned it over to WMATA to operate.
Pro tip: if you were planning on driving to Dulles and parking before you fly, use the Wiehle-Reston East Garage instead (it's much cheaper and a quick ride to IAD)
Tyson’s station pisses me off because walking anywhere but the Tyson’s corner center is a pain in the ass and requires you to pass the main pylon which like many on the line is non compliant with metros sign guidelines.
Would it be fair to say that these stations are more concrete and brutalist than average? From your videos, these seem to be metro lines that were designed like freeways.
Correction: Wiehle Reston East has 2300 parking spots!

yes I should have added that I completely forgot about that!

cool, what's the restaurant called?
@@sammymarrco47 it’s called Eddie V’s!!
Great video. I use Wiehle-Reston East. You did a great job describing this and the four Tysons' stations, Thanks.
Thanks Gary, it's a nice island of Walkability, hopefully it can expand too!
Nice video! We might honestly have to start calling all of those substations WMATA Spicy Fun Houses…
Please do, that'd be hilarious, I need my own "beacon of light, beacon of hope" meme for my stuff. Thanks for watching!

indeed, I just feel these little islands of walkability, while better than nothing, just won't move the needle enough, but I hope I'm wrong! :(
Yeah, islands of walkability aren’t perfect, but have to start somewhere and can hopefully infill between once the nodes have built up more.

100% - I should have mentioned that...

yeah ik, at some point the video got long and I had to omit some stuff but you're correct! Thanks for watching!

definitely the strat, if I go to IAD (or DCA) I'd take Omniride bus 60 to Tysons then metro to the airport for only $6.75!
I guess you can say… Silver Line Phase 1 “Wiehle” paved the way! 😅
I suppose you could say that....

yeah hopefully they build an exit on the Galleria Dr northern side!
will you do this in 2032 for the phase two of the silver line.
maybe a little sooner 😂
11:50 Didn't Andy mention one is hidden in a fire station?
I believe that was for the AC system!

yeah, they're very utilitarian looking but I haven't heard any complaints.
