Been saying to myself for quite awhile, that I need a small bag to carry the cell phone around the house. It's not like the old days where we had an extension land line phone in almost every room in the house and hear the phone ring echoing throughout the house. Perfect solution. Thanks Diane!

This is a great pattern! Every time I make a tote, I make one of these to go with it. I add a D ring to use the bag as a wristlet.

Made it and I'm a beginner! First zipper ever, too. And, I unboxed my first Janome and this is the project I did, on a new machine, having no idea how to operate it being I went from a mechanical to a computerized one. I had a little issue with the fabric not being totally together where the upper small portion of fabric (above the zipper) and the outer back wall weren't totally sewn together. Given, I don't know much about what I'm doing and discovered it when I thought it was totally done, I flipped the piece of fabric above the zipper over and gave the inside lining a few extra lines of stitches and it resolved the problem. I hope the recipient doesn't flip that over or else they will notice my mistake. Otherwise, my four daughters have already asked for their own. Thank you!

I have just made one of these and I LOVE IT. Your instructions are so very easy to follow. I had never basted a zip in before, but I thought I would give it a go - and it really does make sewing the zip in MUCH easier - so thanks very much for that tip. I know what you mean about calling it a fanny pack 😂😂. I’m a Brit but have lived in Canada for many years so I’m used to calling it a fanny pack, but it still makes me smile. Anyway Diane - thanks again for the great tutorial and pattern.

Have to say that I have really come to hate these stupid smartphones. The constant interruptions, dings, bells, and practically whistles like I am a dog that must come running. Rings when I am answering nature's call, hands wet from washing up, or sticky when cooking. Not fun when you suffer from vertigo and carrying a boiling pot of water. I'm always leaving the phone in another room or somewhere inconvenient. That's when it rings 99% of the time - rarely when I am sitting next to it. Telemarketers and scammers don't get my nice answer.
So I was doing some major grumbling while making myself a half apron to carry the phone and other stuff around the house. Was considering adding a zipper pocket, but decided I should make a "bum" pouch next. Watched your video while sewing and had to stop, have a sit, just in time for tea!
Glad you showed that I wasn't the only person thinking of making one of these pouches with just a belt. Although I think I will need a new belt for my t-shirt and undies with stylish bum bag outfit.
Thanks for the smiles and inspiration.

I made my first one from the pattern. It was a little too small for my phone , so. number 2,was bigger. I made 12x12 squares as my base size for the 4 blocks. I cut 2 fleece pads and rounded the edges and spray basted them to my external pieces When I sewed my pieces together I just used my pressure foot along fleece to give me the perfect shape to sew together Then I trimmed the edges That way it always fits perfectly Hope that makes sense.
    Love your videos.

We learned back in 2002 when we visited Ireland that "fanny pack" would have made folks giggle had we called it that. Apparently, that's the same in the UK ;D

I just finished my first bum bag and I love it! It’s going to be a gift for someone. I increased the size of the belt holder to 7 x 2-1/2 inches so that I could slide an adjustable 1 inch webbing belt for someone and I don’t know what waist size they would be. Could you please recommend the length that would be ample enough for anyone? I did see your video on how to make an adjustable webbing belt and that was very helpful Diane. Thank you! ❤

Hi. I can't really give you a one size fits all - men are normally larger than women, some body shapes are much bigger, and bodies in different countries are very differently sized too. I would measure what you would consider a large man in your country and add 7" to that measurement, but bear in mind that it would have lots of spare webbing (possibly too much) on a very small person. Hope that helps, I know its not an exact answer xx

Thank you so much for this tutorial - very clear and easy to follow. I've just completed my first effort and used a thin vinyl for the outside and cotton for the lining. I seem to be pretty hopeless at cutting out accurately and make some daft mistakes, but I'm really quite pleased with my effort. I did find getting the top corners to turn out neatly pretty impossible - are there any clever tricks for doing this when using vinyl especially?

Glad you liked it. Trim the seam allowance back as far as you can, the thicker the fabric, the more bulk will be in there. I bigger curve on the corner will also mean less bulk in one place

Where can I find the PDF pattern to download? I went on the website and it is not there to purchase and I can't see any links through youtube?

You made me laugh, you must have the heater on, t-shirt and undies...hahahaha! Nowadays when I go to the grocery store I just bring my phone, keys, driver's license and credit card and they all go in separate pockets of my pants. This bum bag is just what I needed, thank you!
