Once upon a time, I went to buy a Mercedes Benz and the interior looked dated. When I did the test drive, it was like, so what. The salesman told me to get in the left lane because there was a huge dip in the right lane. OoooK!
Then I strolled over to the BMW lot. The salesman told me to stay in the right lane because there was a huge dip in that lane. The BMW oozed over that dip like butter. As I continued the test drive, I realized that I was smiling from ear to ear the entire time. Needless to say, I now have a BMW in my garage!
And I'm driving happily ever after!
    The end 😁😎

In my experience, the S class feels big and thumpy on the road, while the 7 series feels smooth and agile.
Watching the review, felt like he made up his mind before he even drove the car.

You know Roman, you are the first person I have ever heard say, you would rather be a "rear seat" passenger in the 750li, and a "driver" of the S550!
I find the Mercedes a beautifully comfortable car to be a passenger in. The BMW, well it's a great drivers car, though not as overtly comfortable.
I have a W222, and I enjoy it's Luxury, it's cosseting insulated manner. It is a very very quick car, but not sporty in the handling department, though it can go around corners obscenely quickly. I have driven 600 miles (in a day) in the Mercedes, and come time too out of it, I have no back pain and zero fatigue. It is such a relaxing car to drive.....Superb Craftsmanship.
I owned a E66 BMW 750Li in 2007, it was Not what I Expected, it felt unsubstantial and a bit cheap, plus it's looks were challenging. Though it was a very good drivers car, especially considering it's size and weight. I bought the E66 750Li, because the previous (E38) 7 series, was possible the most beautiful BMW of that era, and being younger, I wanted a big car that was fun on a drive, but could carry the family easily....Whilst giving me a more sporty driving and dynamic feel.
The new G12 BMW 7 series, is the best designed 7, since the E38. I haven't driven one yet. But since I love the Mercedes so much, I most probably never will. As the S550 is all the car I need at this point in my life.
The S class Mercedes Benz, is in my opinion the very best luxury car money can buy, without financially crippling yourself, on a Rolls Royce Ghost / Phantom or Bentley Flying Spur / Mulsanne.
BMW and Mercedes Benz are direct competitors in the upper end of the Luxury car market, with the S class and 7 series, they slog it out in the same market place, with two quiet similar cars overall in Size and Features.
Each car has acres of leather, a forest of timber and more wool than a sheep farmer! They use real Alloy for the interior switches, not plastics....So we have quiet high end finishes in both.
But with two very Different takes on their Car underneath, with different attitudes and opinions of what Luxury is. BMW in my experience, have a Firmer Seat cushion! Whilst Mercedes Benz is more Cosseting of her passengers in the Seating Dept.
Seeing that I'm getting on, a cars seat is now most important consideration in choosing a car, hence my use of it as an example.
The views stated, are just my Opinions, on Mercedes Benz's S class Vs BMW's 7 series.

I bought a 750xi with the M package in 2016 and absolutely love the car. It is fun like a sports car with the luxury of a sedan. You can keep the Mercedes S I drove one of those for a day before I bought the 750. It just was not as fun to drive.

Im in the market for a bigger vehicle, I currently own 13 cls550 and 15 bmw 328i and both work horribly with a carseat. Me and my lady have been eyeing s class lately but the interior looks very outdated, especially the steering wheel. Surprisingly she actually likes the 7 series alot, only con is ive heard horrible things about the 4.4l. My 3 series has been an absolute blessing, gratefully no problems but i maintain the vehicle my self very often. My question is should i purchase a 2016 750xi? I also like the m550i ( same year) it feels more my age (20) but again it has that 4.4l.

The gear changes appeared a bit jerky with hard acceleration judging by the movement of your torso. Was it? Agree the front is too fussy while the back is no more handsome than its predecessor. I do prefer the dashboard - the Merc's looks a bit too Liberace and bulky. Side by side comparison would be great. Thanks for a great review.

Here's the problem, TFL. Things like hand gesture technology aren't really "cutting edge", the Germans just stuff these features into their cars just for the sake of having something that few other cars have, even if it doesn't work better, because that impresses their snobbish clientele. Again, these additional modes of controlling the volume and whatever are not "cutting edge" technology, they're not new, and they're not an advancements over simple things like buttons and volume knobs, they're just more and more expensive and useless things that will break.

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 8 лет назад +1

Well most people buy these new so that's not a concern and this tech is what should come with the car as its the flagship vehicle that means it should have the best of the best

Roman's opinion pretty much seems to represent the consensus opinion of the 7 vs the S. At 6:50, I think he hit the nail on the head surprising considering how BMW's used to be the driver's choice. Gesture control is viewed as gimmicky and that is probably the one tech feature that had the most attention over the S-Class tech. And at 7:59, that view of the interior also sums up why the S is superior. The interior of the S looks special whereas the interior of the 7 looks like a 3 Series interior with higher quality materials. I have no idea how/why BMW missed the mark so badly with this. Mercedes is selling 2:1 and sometimes 3:1 S vs 7, and that's comparing a non-updated, 3-year old S vs. the brand new 7. Not to mention the 7 currently has a 740i model that starts $15k LESS than the starting price of the S500. Imagine if Mercedes felt the need to add an S400 to the stable and lower the price of entry for an S-class. They may start outselling the BMW 4:1.

So, when Roman says "Merc wins because I like to drive the car" this means that BMW is better limousine... And beat Merc in their game...

Terrible review and comparison. Little to no mention of the seats, stereos, rear entertainment, engine characteristics, transmission, features...ect. Having driven a 2017 S550 and a 2017 750i back to back there are obvious differences between the two. The 750i was far sportier that the S550, it didn't even have the M sport package. The S550 was very nice but definitely felt more like a car your grandparents would drive, the ride was softer, steering slower, just felt like an older Cadillac. While 750i wasn't super sporty, it felt a lot sportier than the S class. It felt smaller and smaller when it was pushed. Both are incredible cars but the 750i is a lot more inline with how I prefer cars to feel and drive

I feel the BMW looks boring and doesn't seem to a luxury car. The styling on the Mercedes from the inside to outside is much more appealing and practical. It can stand out in the crowd with its large headlights, rear lights style and the body contours. In the inside the whole dashboard looks as if you are already in next decade of car design. The back seat comfort just can't be matched and with other variants of it it looks practical as well.

+headcas620 You should see how amazing the M6 Gran Coupe on top gear. And I would buy that car! It's more convenient than the two-door M6 and more nimble and less draggy than the 7-series. You can comfortably seat 4 people without compromising performance. The M6 Gran Coupe is the car of the decade for me.

No, I think the 7 series is a luxury level above the 6. The 3 and 4 series are the same (minus the doors), 5 and 6 are together, and 7 is their limo thing I think is how it works. Personally, I prefer the 4-door versions, though I have no idea why.

For someone who reviews cars professionally, how can you fawn over the gesture control as anything more than a weak, gimmick? Not to mention time spent talking about the technology which is really nothing more than all cars in this class must have to be competitive.

actually the A8 is the most ugly from luxury cars (mercedes, bmw, porsche, lexus), you must be old, because A8 is for aged people.

I Had the 2014 BMW 750 I L (TERRIBLE CAR) and also own a Lexus 460 L AWD . I did have a Lexus ES 350 FWD and a Lexus GS 350 AWD and a Mercedes 560 SEL and I finally have the two cars I feel are keepers. Normally I buy cars and trade them i within 2 years I am keeping the Lexus 460 L AWD as it is very dependable and SAFE in all types of weather The BMW 2016 I is also as comdfortable as the the Lerxus NOT as safe in the snow or rain BUT a hell of a fun car to drive expecially in sport mode on curves My 2016 has the M Sport package and for a bif car this car moves FAST

Yeah, $130,000 now, but then it'll be less than $30,000 in a few years time because few people want to own such a big POS without a warranty.

Bmw looks the same tbh. Interior is the same as 2015. Mercedes looks nicer, better engine options, interior is better, and ride better. Don't get me wrong. BMW are nice and they handle better then Mercedes but at the end of the day Mercedes is just better.

The BMW still looks fat and cheap with all the fake chrome parts. The Mercedes in comparison is really a class of its own. Much more spectacular and with more exclusive looks. And it's already a couple of years old. BMW realised in the last minute that their car is worse and threw in a ton of technology to make it look more advanced. And failed!

CaptainDelight Apparently you have an s class and your feeling intimidating when one is pulled up next to you, knowing you are beside the ultimate driving machine that have all the technology that your car doesn't have and more. So tell me in comparison to your bullshit s class which I assumed you have is more sophisticated, agile, faster and handles like a sport car?
