I once had awareness of the greater Universe that surrounds us all. God is my saviour. He blesses me with wisdom of the saints. Power is loud enough to dim the strongest mind. We must be awake with the memory of Him. I used to believe in Zen that was more Tao than my Catholic roots of consciousness.

Summary :- Alan said here that Christian belief says that God gave us freedom of will. Hinduism says that God gets lost in the person, and gives up power. They are the same thing. People who have overcome (transcended) their egos, have strong personalities. That's because the more you give yourself away, the more of a Self you become. Give complete control to everything else. Then things flip. By giving away control, you get it. You have a loving relationship with the world. You let it decide.
Lao Tzu said ''The great Tao flows everywhere. It loves and nourishes all things, but does not lord it over them.'' Good leadership works like this. The more you give up power and trust others, the more powerful you become.
The principle of unity is coming to a sense of oneness with the whole of the rest of the Universe. The way to become one with the Universe is to trust it. The more you let go, and trust, the more you realise the inseparable identity of self and other. By constantly giving up authority, the synergy and intelligence of a highly complex system operates. This is because you made the act of faith. When you touch a key where you flow with the course of Nature, all sorts of unexpected factors cooperate and support you. For example, you can just pick up the practices of others from hundreds of years ago who had worked things out by their awareness.

Extreme summary = the more you give your lower ego self away, the more you become your higher God-like self (or soul)(or Atman).

But don't plan to give away ego. Ego loves it with nice words.

@@WeAreAllOneNature ego likes analysis and organizing of ideas. The analysis of ego and creating lower ego and higher ego distinction means the ego has won! Truth is a pathless land.

He’s very entertaining. And I understand most of what he says intellectually. But feeling that I am a part of the universe is difficult to see. I see the trees and the fence and the table as i sit in the dark and try to feel my atomic structure mingling with theirs. Sometimes I think I could feel it happening, but I still don’t feel like I belong here. If I am the universe, then, without me, the universe wouldn’t exist. My sense tells me that when I’m gone, the universe will continue. Forgive my ramble.

I love listening to Alan Watts but in this regard how and why do others use that vulnerability of trust and giving away control to manipulate, disrespect and abuse the giver or others? How does this fall in line with relativity and/or with the theories here? Are we talking about faith or something more cosmic? Lets take for example the inocence of a child... a toddler if you will. The same inocence that where if a child were to see a stove for the first time and not know what it is or that the element is hot when turned on, touches that element in the most innocent form of vulnerability. The child cannot even comprehend what may happen as they know nothing of the stove or its hot element and the effects of touching the hot element yet they get burned. There are quite clearly factors outside the control of our own understanding of our place in the world or the universe. Many people say that life is 99% what you make of it but that is really hard for someone who was born into poverty, grew up in a toxic environment, was teased, bullied, outcast, all at such a young age that they had no control over any of those experiences, not even enough to walk away from them. So is life a series of chaotic events and we as humans struggle to understand the paterns, harness the energy and ride the waves? Or are we in complete control of our own lives and experiences with the energy we put outward being exactly what we recieve? We are no closer to understanding now than we ever were or will be. The meaning of life is to live it. That is all.

Parabol76 I think that the point of this talk is that we should TRUST the universe. We don't have to understand it. It is too complex. Just give up control, and yourself (ego), to the Universe in an act of faith. A basic understanding of karma helps a lot. Everything is in perfect order. Every soul chose to be born into it's specific physical incarnation of poverty, whatever, for a reason.

The background music started to distract me @ 5:50. Is there something missing in Alan's talk that requires musical supplementation? I don't recall any music in his talks in Marin County in the 70s. In fact Alan never had any music in any of his talks, ever. I'm surprised that this, of all stations, has added background music to these important discussions. The Alan Watts channel should understand more than anyone the power and importance of his words, spoken simply, clearly, and unadulterated.
