The tack strip gully seemed a bit too wide, although it is probably the camera angle and lenses. Whenever I am installing with baseboards jammed on the subfloor, I still use my Roberts 10-616 wall trimmer. I am able to adjust the depth of cut and get a very consistent look around the perimeter, especially against brick. I am glad to see another installer not using pad adhesive. I use duct tape around the perimeter and on the seams. Beautiful work.

Thanks for that / I do not glue my pad to the concrete, that being said I was trained that way but after seeing how messy it was to scrape up during ripouts and people with pets who urinate all over, I just thought that floating was a better fit for all!

Hi Keith, Love the video I was searching for a video like this one. Question can I lay carpet over ceramic without the pad and just glue the carpet to the ceramic tile instead? and do I have to stretch it If I'm only gluing it down?

This video is all I needed to get the confidence to try myself. I have a small room in my house which needs doing but I've been complacent because it's a ceramic tiled floor.
Are the carpet tucker/tools a must? Is it possible without? I just feel a little odd buying all the kit for a one time use.
Whatever the answer, thanks for the video!

Hi Keith, thank you for the video! Could I ask, I have a terracotta tiled floor, and will be replacing an old existing carpet which is laid on them. I want to replace the old underlay too (it is a rubber type underlay) just to freshen everything up. Can any foam underlay work? I don't need anything moisture resistant? I assume the rubber is an older type, but not sure and can't find much info online. Just checking what would be a the best fit! Thank you

Hi so we just moved into a house id really like to do this. Im assuming its a ton cheaper than pilling out our old tile? Also-this tile that you covered seems pretty flat we have what seems to be a thicker ceramic? Is ceramic ceramic it dosent matter the thickness it can still be done? It would be for my daughters room and much better for her walking on it and safer, not to mention cleaning.

Hi Keith thank you for taking the time to make this. I'm moving to a property that has floor tiles down. They are from the 70s and what I would call kitchen tiles, they are flat. I want to use underlay, but the carpet I can afford is felt backed. I am aware that I need to glue the gripper down. And having just watched this might be stupid question as you did state do not glue underlay. But lol should I definitely not glue the underlay? Correct? Should I glue the carpet to the underlay. I was told if the underlay isn't glued to the floor and felt carpet laid on top. It will curl up like an old sandwich. I hope you get this in time I due to lay in the next few days.
Thank you in advance for your answer and time.

We’ll all I can say is the way it’s done in the video is how I do this / I can’t recommend how to do it without seeing or working with the carpet you are purchasing / if they are recommending a certain installation you should probably follow how they suggest

Thank you! The carpet suppler hasn't said anything about laying. My question was based on a video I saw laying felt backed carpet. He used underlay and grippers which was already laid. He fitted the carpet and spray adhesive the carpet to the underlay. In doing research for how best to go about the laying in a forum there was comment that if the underlay wasn't spray adhesive to the floor it would curl up with the carpet. Thank you again for your time and advice 🖒

I am carpeting over Tile. Someone told me not to use padding over a tile floor? they said it leaves impression on the carpet? Yes NO? I see how easy it looks, is there another type of carpet you would recommend over tile? Also, I didn't want to use glue, since its a leased commercial space, I don't want to commit to have glue over the tile. Do you have an alternative padding you recommend if there is no glue, or a different type of carpet type, squares? roll out.
