There are numerous reasons for that imo. From my pov, there are more teams in college than the wnba meaning more continuity amongst the players/roster. Also the WNBA is still relatively young compared to college teams which is why fans show more loyalty to college program(regardless if they went to the school or not) whereas WNBA are still trying to build a bigger fanbase for the teams. College also has better TV/media partners than the wnba despite both of them rarely being put on mainstream networks like the men's game is(last year's final four is the exception). Single elimination games in March Madness or conference tournaments help too.
