The moment Su starts singing, my soul just melts. I don't know how else to describe it. It's as if the sun rises, the clouds lift, and there is a great sense of relief. I have no clue how she evokes that response.

It's the melancholy tone she uses as she sings in her younger voice. Combined with the little girl in the ponytail (which can't be representing her....8-)) with an umbrella innocently and futilely to protect herself from a nuclear fallout. Yeah, the song is incredibly sad with all of these aspects with a splash of hope of a single surviving tree at the end. How can it NOT be sad and hopeful at the same time?
The first time I listened to it, it brought me to tears. And then even more so after I watched AJ Hartley's analysis of the song in his first reaction, and it also brought him to tears.

Everyone has their own interpretation of the song. In reality, there are painful things like wars, disasters, and pandemics that rob the world of its beautiful colors.
But this song is about bringing back the beautiful colors, starting with us! I feel the positivity of the song 😁. I like the fact that it doesn't deny or criticize anyone.
I am looking forward to seeing the one and only new BABYMETAL next year when these songs will be performed in concert. It will be HEAVY METAL if you listen to them, HAPPY METAL if you watch them, and I will be so happy if I can witness in real time the completion of a worldview that only they can create 😭.

This song and video is literally about nuclear war. Interpret it all you want. But it's quite obvious. I too hope the world can be better. It's just a reminder of what could happen when it's not. You know? Let's not elect warmongers, lets stop funding warmongers. We can do better.

To me, this song is about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. At 1.04 is a mushroom cloud and at 3.04 a falling object destroys a city.

    Great reaction, thanks!
I still prefer "Divine attack" musically but this one got me from the lyrics perspective. And it's quite a bit rare to me since I'm not usually a person who cares much about the lyrics when the song sounds good to me. But "Monochrome" has so many layers and the whole allegory is so amazingly build that I ended up loving it because a total different reason. Not to mention that the song has grown on me also musically. Really beautiful and sad song with an optimistic ending.

Hi Tauri, been waiting for you to get to this!
Su’s voice is superb along with Moa’s backing vocals, bring tears to my eyes 👀.
And we got the little giggle at the end again!

Nice reaction. Babymetal continues their blending of genres and this time they blend Myth and reality in the lyrics. While still leaving the lyrics open for your personal interpretations. That is amazing writing and composing. Babymetal walks us through are darkest times and finds a way to inspire hope. Carrying on their tradition of a positive message. Even when your world is bleak and monochrome because all the color has gone away. Look to tomorrow the darkness will not last. We will build a better life together. As they said remember Babymetal is always on your side. As the color returns so does Babymetal. I can't wait for their next song. I bet it will be different from this one. Just a hunch I have. Kitsune's Up🦊🤘

    Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse.🦊🤘🌐
Always nice to see you once again with another new BM single.
I think part of this _"new BM side we've never seen before"_ is about the more mature sound, and probably that's what we're gonna hear throughout this whole new album when hearing the sneak previews.
So far reactors are preferring DA - Shingeki over this song but there are some few like you loving this since the beginning, but after knowing and hearing this song each day you can't help but love it each time.
And yea, MoaMetal is in the backing chorus.
They're probably using the Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is the Tree Of Life as the Aogiri tree, one of the survivor tree in Hiroshima, and the monochrome fireworks altogether along with more references as a metaphor, once you know where SuMetal was born it all makes sense. But instead of endorse negativity she's giving us hope that if a war or any other sad moment (like the recent pandemic) is happening nowadays, the colors will be back.☔☀️🌈
We all know so far that this time they're introducing us to their metalverse with 10 different worlds and songs, and we're gonna see the full picture once the full album is out, probably some more hints with the next singles coming and the live performance next January. OTFGK.
    These are the credits:
    *Monochrome*
    Lyrics : MK-METAL
Music & Arrangement : YUPPEMETAL (aka Yuyoyuppe) he's the one behind songs like Karate, Rondo Of Nightmare, Megitsune and Kagerou, he knows his business and totally rocks.
And like she said at the end: _"Just smile"_ 🙂
Thanks for sharing this lovely megitsune and see you next time.🦊🤘🌈

Great again! and thank you from Japan 有難う 💛。 When I heard "Divine Attack" a month ago, I thought "We (BM fans) all know this is just one of their various faces that we are going to witness from now on. Let's not be judgmental in haste." This second song has proved it, but in a more drastic way than I expected. Su's pure voice resonates with the bones in my whole body like No Rain No Rainbow did. Vibrating to the resonance, I am now pondering on what the implication of the lyric is. Many fans see some relation with nuclear disaster in Hiroshima, I see, however, more universal event that BABYMETAL is praying for.

Aoyama-san wrecking the kit man. Holy. Also Su is an icon. Also also, not sure how people can watch this video and not realize it's about the nuclear holocaust visited upon the citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the most depraved and awful things anyone has ever done to a citizenry.

Great reaction. They have been constantly evolving and progressing throughout their 12 years (and counting), but always remaining clearly identifiable as BABYMETAL.
This is a beautiful song - but it is deep too. They never put out a lyric video before, I'm thinking they really want us to know what they are singing so we can decide what the song means (as ever it is open to interpretation of course).
From my starting point of almost complete ignorance I have been learning so much from comments under other reactions about Ragnarok and the Norse mythology being referenced and the general consensus is there are also many references to the bombing of Hiroshima (Su-metal's home town) and Nagasaki, even if it is not specifically about those tragic events.
The "monochrome firework" could be the bomb and the tree they used in the visuals throughout and that was finally shown in colour at the end could be the Hiroshima Peace Tree that survived the bombing as well as the tree of life from Norse mythology.

I would add that just before they go into the first chorus, you hear the sound like an electrical device malfunctioning. It sounds an awful lot like the sound electronics make in tv and movies when they are close to the blast from a nuclear weapon where they screech and then go silent from the bomb & EMP. I would hazard a guess that there has been enough research over the years since the first bombs were dropped when they did thousands of test explosions in the 50's, 60's, and 70's to know that that noise is exactly what happens. That would lend further credence to the idea of it being about the bombing of Hiroshima.

You got it right, Moametal stayed, Yuimetal left.
Yes, the music in this is dark, probably because the subject is dark as well. Or at least the inspirations for this song are. The general theme of the song is still a very Babymetal message: even in bad times we need to keep ours heads high and keep smiling because we will eventually get through this and have better times again.

I'm not sure the background vocals is Moa, it certainly doesn't sound like her, if her voice is there she is layered with someone's else voice.
It is a very dark song. There is a lot of speculation about what she is singing about, but Suzuka is from Hiroshima, and most of the speculation is going towards the event that the city was victim of.

First off they don't get enough credit for spearheading female led Japanese rock and metal. They popularized it and it needs to be said. But I sort of lost interest as other bands progressed and individualized their sound, wanting the same from Babymetal. Ask and you will receive. Yes it's more mainstream than I generally prefer, but the reason for that preference is mainstream is very erratic quality wise. And this is high quality no matter the style. Enthusiastic thumbs up! Great reaction

When i first listened to this, I was a a bit Meh! Too Radio friendly. The more I listen and understand the lyrics, the more I have fallen in love with this track! The new album is supposed to visit 10 metalverses, one for each track. For me, the Monochrome Firework, is the bomb that devastated Su's home of Hiroshima! The tree, in the video symbolises, "Yggdrasil, in Norse cosmology, is an immense and central sacred tree. Around it exists all else, including the Nine Worlds." The lyric video also mentions Ragnarok "In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a series of events, including a great battle, foretelling the death of numerous great figures , natural disasters, and the submersion of the world in water. After these events, the world will rise again, cleansed and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors." I think that fits with the final imagery, of the the video, where we go from the Black Rain, of a nuclear explosion, to the colourful hope of the future.
