Bangladesh's Supreme Court scales back job quotas that triggered days of violent protest

- Supreme Court in Bangladesh has dismissed a ruling by the High Court to reinstate a job quotas system.
In June, the High Court reinstated a system reserving 30% of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought in Bangladesh’s war of independence.
After violent protests this week, the Supreme Court suspended that ruling.
A nationwide curfew remains in place and has been extended 'indefinitely' as security services try to quell protests.
Detail on the top court's ruling will become clearer in the coming hours.
At least 114 people have been killed, and thousands injured in a violent crackdown by the police and military.

But students in Bangladesh say it's not just about the quota movement. Who will take responsibility for the atrocities the government has inflicted on our students, and the lives that have been lost. So the government wants the resignation of all those who were involved in the sector and they should be brought under the law.

Since last three days I have no contact with my family in back home. The govt is killing the innocent students and ordinary people who are helping students. Almost 150 students were killed by Bangladesh government. Many students are Under 18. The government is doing genocide now. We want the resignation of current prime minister Shekh Hasina.
I urge the United Nations and Human right organizations to help our students and save their lives.

The court did not issue any ruling. The court clearly stated that this is a matter for the government, and the court cannot intervene here.
The students had also asked the government for reforms, but the government then pointed them to the court. Why? To kill the students?
The Supreme Court did not want to take any responsibility regarding the quota issue. Today, the court merely provided a roadmap on how the quota could be structured. However, the government can adjust it as they see fit.
The summary of today's ruling is that the government can maintain a 7% quota if they wish, or, if they desire, they can increase the freedom fighter quota to 50% or even up to 99%. The entire matter is in the hands of the government, and the court has no control over it.
Today, the government mentions a 7% quota, but six months or a year later, they could increase it to 99% if they want.
There is no escape for the meritorious from the grip of this tyranny.

tribes means: children of government employee / doctors / lawyer / collector / rich / ministers, because they have CASTE
Rich means: Orphan children / Beggars / Daily laborer / Farmer / Tribal / Military etc… They are not eligible to study because they have no CASTE
Become a Hindu Christian so that you children can get an education. Even if you are government employee/doctors/lawyer/collector/rich/ministers children come under tribals category
Indian govt(After 1947): CASTE BASED EDUCATION (doctor, engineer, scientist, IIT, NIT, IIMs etc), Son of Govt employee / doctors / lawyer / collector / rich people / ministers etc... is eligible to study ( doctor, engineer, scientist, IIT, NIT, IIMs etc ) but orphan children / beggars / daily labour / farmer / tribal / military etc... is not eligible to study.
