Hey Trev, fun fact for you. Those "buttons" on the right side of the cockpit are fuses for all the electronics on board. You could pull/push them in/out to connect/disconnect systems.
Correct. The "5" refers to 5 amps.

Fun fact: this is one of the aircraft used in the first top gun to mimic the mig-31 and the training scene at the base!

Trev, those “buttons” are circuit breakers and collectively the rows of them are called a circuit breaker panel. The number “5” on the front refers to that systems amperage limit, and is the point it would trip, or pop out, to prevent a fire.
Was about to say this, most people don’t know unless you’ve been around planes, before I was I would have had no idea😂

If you were Navy, you were a RIO (Radar Intercept Officer)...If you were Air Force, you were a WSO (Weapons Systems Officer). My Dad was Crew Chief in the Air Force on RF-4C tail # 68-0567.
Contrary to popular belief, the F4 wasn't actually used broadly until the later half of Vietnam. They were still phasing out P51's. When I was a fighter jet mechanic aka crew chief in the Air Force, this was one of the things we learned as part of our military history studies

I wanted to let you know you are in gran torismo. They show you playing the game. That’s awesome man!
You were flying the F4-E which is the Air Force variant. You can tell by the center mounted gun. The navy’s version of the F4 (there were many) all had gun pods which are mounted to the underside of the plane.
Nice to fly (if and when available): sr-71 blackbird, B-377-SG/SGT Super Guppy, some blimp, The Scrapyard Monster.

Would've been nice to see them do a bit more for the 4E in this case. The cockpit looks quite a bit different than the one they used, and if they added the upgraded slats, it would've been a bit more maneuverable. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Heatblur implements their F-4 into MSFS after the F-14.
My Grandad used to work on these things back in the day, the used to be stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, but now we have no fighter jets, just A-Waxes

Hey Trev! The F-4's ARE awesome fighters. Enjoyed the video. By the way, those "wings" in the back that point kind of downward, are call "stabilators". They are both the horizontal stabilizer, and the elevator. I believe all supersonic jet fighters have them.

A slight correction Trevor, the most produced jet is not F4 ,but it was MIG 15. The SOVIET UNION PRODUCED 12000 OF THEM.
Mig21 is the most produced supersonic planes, Mig15 is the most subsonic

Never flown by the army but they were flown by marine corps as far a plane you should do fly the F 105 thunder chief or the F 104 star fighter
The reason that the f-4 was not very manoeuvrable for u was cos u were flying it too fast and the control surfaces were locking up

Yeah this thing was what the US fought with against the Vietnamese MIG’s in the 1960’s and 70’s it didn’t turn very well as demonstrated in this video but the sheer power it had was a difference maker
It was a great intercepter but a bad dog fighter. The mig 21 was a better dog fighter. That why the next-generation fighter went back to more agile fighter's like the F16 Falcon 1980 F 14 Tomcat 1972 F 15 Eagle 1976. All F 4 fighers where retired by 1980 wild weasel and electronic warfare models stayed in service for another 10 years. Compared to it two main predecessor F 15 and F 16 the F 4 had a very short lifespan as a jet fighter due to it poor agility. It was designed to chase and shoot down Russian bombers not fighters it was a very good design for that if Russia had ever designed a bomber that could reach USA. It had to use a lot of ww2 dog fighting tatics like Thatch weave and zoom and boom.

@@carloscastillo8286 Short lifespan with the US forces at least, other countries still running them. Turkey, Greece, Iran, and South Korea still operate them, but at least Turkey and Korea are retiring in the next decade. 60+ years of operation in general is pretty good if you ask me.
