A fun fact, perhaps, a friend and I have owned the NAA pistols with consecutive serial numbers for thirty years or more. Soon after they became available anyway. We found that if you take the index finger of your off hand and put it along the front strap of the pistol, it gives a larger purchase, makes it much more controllable and accurate no matter your hand size. We competed against each other shooting golf balls off the fence at about 15 yards, and keeping them moving along the ground, with hits, for several more yards. Now granted, this wasn’t rapid fire normally. But they can be accurate and a lot of just plain fun in LR or Mag. I love your videos by the way!! Please keep up the good work.

    • @sergeantbigmac
      @sergeantbigmac Год назад +6

Im gonna guess it was a 999 sportsman model? Honestly one of the most underrated revolvers from one of the most misunderstood manufacturers. Well made, handsome design lines, balanced shooter and to top it off just fun as hell to pop off 9 shots at a time. You can still come across these in pawshops and used markets/gunshows occasionally. They were priced low for a longtime but it seems not as much anymore since people have caught on that thier quality supercedes their undeserved reputation...
I really cringe when people lump H&R into the other saturday night special brands. 1st off thats not even accurate, they are one of the few manufacturers to secure major military rifle contracts in WWII, Korea and Vietnam (the M1 Garand and the M16A1) and their civilian firearms while not as refined as Colt or S&W are solidly made shooters. People forget they were intentionally made to be less expensive and they excelled at filling that niche. More shared parts between models and less handfitting, so what they still used quality steel and their were designs sound, especially later models.

The sight picture for an NAA revolver is when you feel the rib cage. And that's when it matters. It keyholes at 5 yds out of a 1.85'' barrel, but the muzzle flash will scare off a coyote or wolf. That is exactly the tool it is supposed to be.

Mr. Hickok, I love your videos, but I wish you would have shot the other NAA-22 with the Folding Grip. That's what I have, and it is way smaller and lighter than my LCP when it's folded in my pocket. The folder grip also has a pocket clip on it, and when in use in my front jeans pocket, it looks more like a pocket knife than a gun. It keeps the trigger covered (inaccessible) and protected while it's in my pocket. This thing is so light weight, especially the 22LR version, with that hollowed out plastic handle/grip that I can put it in my gym shorts, and don't have to keep pulling my pants up. Try that with your LCP. It's super easy to open-up the handle as I'm pulling it out of my pocket. It locks open so it feels secure, and all you have to do is push in the detents to unlock it and fold it away again. You know the deal, I'd rather have a 22 in my pocket, inside a convenience store, than a 45 under the driver's seat inside my pickup truck.

Get the 1 5/8 barrel or longer. It has the effective range of a Zippo lighter, but it works better than a Zippo lighter. The standard sights are useless so it is ONLY effective at Zippo lighter range.

Now at end of video and sadly Sir, I believe you just talked possibly thousands of folks out of owning any NAA firearm. While hitting what you aimed at, mostly and they are designed for hugging distance shots. Sad in that the workmanship is precision grade. Functionality is practically 100%. While I would seldom carry ONLY one of them it is totally usable as desperate, "they are already on ya", better than a knife, defense. At least hope they buy that Ruger or anything that can save em if need arises. Still good video, as always. L8r.

I love my smith and Wesson model 1 third issue I hand load black powder rounds for it or buy CB caps I also like to load the cylinder with blanks and single loads .22 cal pellets into the breach end of the barrel which is lots of fun since it is a tip up barrel.

Sure it's a little pricey but it's just plain cool. You could own it and never shoot it and it would still be a cool conversation piece. All that said I completely agree that (Room to conceal permitting) the Ruger LCPII is a much better choice than any of the mini-revolvers

I just purchased this pistol and I love it . I changed out the grips to the black folding grips you show on the other pistol. Those grips fit the Ranger II just fine and I ordered them from the NAA website and they came very quickly.
I never fired it with the wooden grips I purchased it planning to switch out the grips which was easy. Their instructions are good but there are several great videos on RUclips explaining the process. It takes just 5 or 10 minutes and it’s well worth the effort and the money. Mine came with only only the 22 magnum cylinder and according to NAA I gotta send the gun back to be specially fitted for the long rifle cylinder. I’m not sure I wanna do that ..I’m disappointed because I thought the literature said it was included but when it arrived at my gun store I almost didn’t take it. I’m glad I did now.
My EDC is a 45 ACP Kimber Ultra Carry II 3” barrel which I like and I have other guns in various calibers. I have no plan to carry the Ranger I just love the cool factor. Moreover, I find I can shoot it well for short distances I love the tall sights and the way they stick up. Anyway, great review I appreciated your comments and especially agree it’s a well made pistol.
I also own a Bond Arms Derringer in 45 LC/.410. 😂 I like it for the same reasons I like the Ranger NAA and it’s not especially accurate in my hands at least not yet. Can’t find enough ammo yet to practice and I’ve had it since 2020. Anyway thanks for your review I always like hearing what others, especially you, think of the stuff I buy.

Hickock45: You demoed the wrong model. I have a Black Widow, 2" barrel, fat rubber grips and tall, replaceable sights. The slow reload issue still exists, but with this combination of equipment (and practice) I can shoot beer cans at 5 yards easy. A man sized silouette is no problem at 10 yards either. I am about 50% shooting at a man target at 50 yards. Please give a Black Widow a try.

Years ago I was out plinking with a girlfriend who brought along an old single-shot, 22 calibre,
break-top rifle and she let me try it out. I broke open the breech like you would any shotgun and put in a round in the old gun. But when I closed the breech it evidentally pinched the cartridge
rim and blew up in my face. This blew off the cartridge base, which flew up and embedded itself just to the right of my nose where it stayed for the next five years. Near the end of that time, the brass piece became irritated and, over the course of a few weeks, worked itself out
along its original impact route where it broke the skin and I pulled out the now-calcified piece
of brass with a pair of pliers. For this reason, I don't ever buy or shoot break-breech, rimfire
weapons (like the Ranger II). Incidentally, isn't the human body incredible?! PS- I DO like your videos!

Hi, H 45! I don’t know how I managed to miss this video last year!
I have one thing to mention, something I meant to suggest when you did the video showing the folding grip for the mini-mag:
Instead of the folding grip I decided to try swapping out to the Black Widow grip. The BW grips are larger over all. They are fatter, and the material gives that sticky rubber grip while still having a good firm density for a steady hold.
In CALIFORNIA(gasp) I qualified for my third CC firearm with the stock grips on my 1” barrel NAA Mini-Mag. I did that at 7 yards “in one”.
…but I’d never go back to the stock grips now that I have the BW grips.
Give them a try some time for shoots and giggles.
I’m a lady, and carrying my 38sp+ S&W Airweight IWB was forcing me to wear too many loose layers in the summer to avoid printing. So, depending on where I am and what I am doing, I now have the option of going “almost armed” in locations and to events where dressing to adequately conceal would be nearly impossible.
It can just be so different for females, depending on their physical build, and “dress codes”.
I do not have tiny hands, or I wouldn’t suggest your trying different grips for the NAA 1” Mini-Mag, but thinking in terms of viewers with smaller hands, this might be an opportunity for you to give them a look at a different, functional option.
Oh, and don’t stand so close to those Kentucky Soda Bottles. They squirt viciously!

I've gotten into a hot tub twice with my NAA pug and haven't disassembled it yet, it's fine. Swapped out the rounds of course. This gun has been there for me (in hand) 3 different times someone distasteful has bothered me, they never knew it but definitely got the vibe. It lives in my pocket, never discolors or rusts... ever. The 5 rounds always in your pocket is better than the 15 left on the dresser most the time.
