But growing up in northern Iran I can tell you some stuff. They get their name from the city of Sarab which is a kind of a tourist spot in the northwest of the country, and NOT a forgotten ancient place.
They are popular among the shepherds in that area but you almost never see them in other regions of the country, which is a very large one.
The problem is that a lot of idiots tried to mix them with other breeds for fancy reasons and it makes it so hard to find a pure breed.

It's most likely a subspecies to the Central Asian Shepherd. And has evolved into the sarabi dog due to its climate drought, famine and war of the region it lives in
central Asian or alabi is a sub species of persian alabi which is one the most ferocious dogs ever and it's almost instinct because nobody can deal with them ecsept some one that really knows how to handle dogs
now the russian alabi or central Asian dog is a mixture of 3 different dogs
the original alabi is also a 5000 year old dog.
@@joegeoula8678el pastor persa es uno de los perros más antiguos con más de 5000 años asi que su pariente más cercano es el mastín kurdo con 8000 años posiblemente el pastor persa tenga sangre de mastín kurdo por que es más antiguo también como el akbash seguramente ejemplares de pastor persa de pelo largo tenga sangre de akbash ya que es unos de los perros más antiguos por no decir el más antiguo ya que tiene ancestros de hace 10 mill años
@@joegeoula8678. The modern variation of the Alabai is a relatively new type of these dogs. This is a provable fact & those who breed the 5 or 6 variations of the Nth Eastern Aboriginal Volkodav dogs can even recount the names of the dogs that were crossed with the Caucasian Ovcharka & ancient Alabai types giving the much larger modern Alabai.

They are same dog as Central Asian Shepherd.
Take a look at "Animal Watch" channel where Erica interviews the owner of the only two pure bred Sarabi dogs in the United Kingdom. They do not look like most of these dogs in this video which are crossbred dogs. The pure Sarabi has been listed as highly endangered & is facing extinction unless an emergency breeding program is put in place.

kangals are not stronger to a point Turkish people are jealous and they say that this is a Turkish dog because the dog comes from the Turkish region of Iran as a matter of fact there is tons kangal dogs in Kurdish region of Iran and Kurdish people call them Kurdish kangal dogs

Sarabi Mastiff(yellow color) and shorter fur, is very similar to BOZ (Guregh) Shepherd. BOZ Shepherd is a much stronger dog than Kangal. EVERYONE KNOWS VERY WELL that in Turkey. That's why they put 1 BOZ (ALPHA) + 5-9 Kangals (BETA) = Winning combination vs pack of wolves
Sarabi dogs are very more powerful , wild and warrior than kangal
