Just got my TR-8S a few days ago to have while I finish out the last of my chemotherapy, and after a bunch of tutorial videos on how to use it, watching yours a few times helped learn how to really PLAY it. Such a dynamic machine! Having so much more fun with it than I already was! Thank you!
The BassStation II was my very first synth, and I just picked up the TR-8S a few weeks ago. Was happy to stumble upon your set, recording just the way I do! No mastering, all live. Nice set.
This is awesome! I keep coming back to this video, I love the subtle textures and the hypnotic rhythms you’ve made. I think I need a tr8s to accompany my BS2!
Same here. I love the bass tone and the intricate little textures that keep it moving forward. I have a Tr-8 but can see the 8s joining my arsenal in the very near future
Such a great Sound ! Fantastic track for only these two instruments. I own both myself and hearing this makes me wanna spend less time in front of the computer and more time in front of these bad boys! nicely done!
Well that was humbling video for me and anyone else who thought they were pretty good with their TR-8S 😂 Amazing job - more creativity and variety there than Roland’s promotional vids.
It’s mind blowing if you think how many classics of different genres the 808/909 where used on. Will be interesting to see what the next gen does with this, I realise it’s not analogue but it’s getting harder to tell, and it has so many features the originals did not. Enjoyed your jam 👍 trying not to let it make me pull the trigger. Gunna wait till the used prices go down. Wonder if anyone will be paying 5 grand for one of these in 30 years time!!!
Very good, good talking drum machine... a fundamental piece of the four that are in the configuration of Disc Show Man... you need some electronic percussion, a good synthesizer keyboard and a good multi pad... Good luck and let's all go with joy ....
It's a damn good techno track! Respect, it reminds me of the good old days, when techno music was mainly underground.🔥
I too will be an owner of the TR-8s. Where did you learn to conjure up such awesome techno with it? Can you give future TR-8s a tip on their way to successful techno production? Peace, keep it up!❤🔥
Was already planning on the Tr8s as my next buy but this just sold me even more. Was thinking of an impact or drum brute but this is a step up. Cost as well but worth it I think.
I’ve had a TR8s and Bass Station ii for a couple years to play for fun, but I’ve never been able to get them to properly sync. I have every cable imaginable (got frustrated and bought 2 of each and every one available at guitar center). How to I properly sync them with my monitor speakers?
The problem I am having for now, is that the Velocity-sensitive pad would have been more useful to get the kind of fast/multi-notes convoluted rhythmical beats I want to get out of an instrument, but when I use this, the playback doesn't get replicated as such, instead it plays back in single-notes non-fast-rhythmical pace, that is unintended. It appears that this problem I am experiencing is related to perhaps tempo setting issue?, or perhaps only achievable using sub steps and flams?. Any hints/tips appreciated.
I am interested (in you doing some videos) on how you can combine both the RC505 and TR8S capabilities/connectivity/useability, etc, to get the maximum potentials from both used together....or are there no significant benefits from connecting the two together. I tried to connect the RC505 internal drum pattern output to the TR8S ones, but got a mismatch in timing (not syncing well), so I abandoned that idea for now...hoping you would expand this horizon at some point.
In my case i use the midi cable to sync the bpm, but the BassStation does not (re)start the notes when I press the play button on the TR-8S, so you have to start it manually, and then it keeps the bpm. The nudge +/- buttons of the TR are very useful to sync with other devices (but it's not vera precise). Read the user manual of both devices to know exactly their midi capabilities and options.
Thanks! $100 is not a lot to get a synth, but I would recommand looking for a korg volca (eventually a second hand). The Bastl Instrument Kastle seems to be an interesting toy fitting your budget, but I never tested it for now.
What is the parameter that lets you do that echo thing... I know it's probably called reverb, but my reverb doesn't seem to work that way... Great demo by the way. :)
Just got my TR8s today and learned so much by watching you perform. I now get how to use the delay and how you bring tracks in for a moment that catch the tail of the delay. Thats dope. I know the control knoweb is assignable. May I ask what function you assigned your control knob to on ride cymbal track? It seems like it's says depth of LPF when you turn that cntr knob. It creates such a powerful and hypnotic vibe. I love it dude. Thanks again for opening my eyes early on.
Hi Bob! Glad to see that my video helped you. It probably the LPF on that knob (dont forget to push up the resonance a bit to give more presence to the sound). Enjoy the new baby 🙂
@@sylys1116 right on. Thanks. And I know this sounds like a dumb question, but could a Moog Sub 37 be used the same way the Bass Station was used to sidechain the signal into the TR8s? I am not familiar with this technique or how it works. Thanks again.
This is above any regular techno set you can hear at a club, well done. Are these built in sounds? or did you put your own samples into it as well? I am thinking about a live setup: RD8s, sh101, tb303, some effect pedals and maybe my rc505.

Thanks for such a nice feedback. Hope you're fine.

I just ordered my TR-8S as my B-day present (a month early). If I get wife-aggro, I'm sending her here. You're to blame. Cheers! :)

Nice, man! Love the dark vibe, good showcase for the tech.
great sound man! I need to get back into techno too. love your jam!

Hi, nice song ! Just got mine yesterday and omg i m totally in love with this tr-8s !
Nice one! Love how you jam with the delays!
Very early John Digweedish. Love it!
Can you make a tutorial video on the Roland TR-8S and how you like to setup your effects and sample on it to sound so clean and natural.
watching you play the machine Is like playing a guitar. it takes finesse .
That was an amazing set of great tracks. Thank you for that!
Thanks for your support !
Nice Jam! the TR8S looks great
Great pacing and I love the use of the delays. Nice jam! 👍👍

is the hats that starts around at 0:43 and 2:24 from the buit in factory kits or you imported your own sample? Sounds too surreal to my ears god...

When you use the velocity-sensitive pad, the steps will be quantized. Maybe in the user manual you can find a way to quantize using more (sub-)steps

Hi there. Am thinking of buying this combo. What's your verdict ?

You could also copy your part "A "in the A, B, C, D, and then have your two "B" patterns on E and F.
That's a good workaround ! Nice tip !
