Cheers. If I want to do a quick jam after work with one or two of my synths and I need some drums, the tr-8 is the fastest and easiest way to get a groove going.
This was a great tutorial. I never thought of using pattern A/B for a drop like that. Very clever. This machine is rather limited at first glance, but has so many possibilities when you start digging into it. I usually jam with a lot of gear connected but you inspired me to put some time into TR-8 by itself again.
This tutorial was one of the best tutorials that I've seen for the TR-8!!! Thank You, I would hope that you do some more tutorial on the TR-8 and TB-3.
When you go to 'drum select - INST', why is step 16 lit and what is its function? I cannot find this in the manual. My TR-8 also has the 606 expansion.
Glad this tutorial was helpful. I personally only use stereo outputs and mono inputs, so that I can have two synths running through the sidechain effect of the tr-8. If you want to have more control over your kick drum, it makes sense to send the kickdrum out of one mono out and the rest through the other mono out.
Hello there. I just bought TR8 2nd hand without the 7x7 pack installed. It seems the expansion for this one no longer exists ? any idea where or how to get it ? I can only seem to find the cloud version ?
@@dluxJT Hello as far as I understand it you can download the expansion on Roland cloud (which is free) and get a lifetime code to activate it on your tr-8. Just search under hardware.
Hey Kevin, it's just a standard techno drum pattern without melodic elements, so it doesn't have a name. If I had to pick a name though, it would be "Feeling edgy/twitchy"
I now respect my TR-8 so much more. Thank You.

Great tutorial, great idea the accent on the 808 kick to give it some punch!!

Big respect,.thank you for this. What a great tutorial !
Just need advice now on when best to use mono vs stereo outputs on the TR-8 / 8S / 6S

What would you do? Buying the 7x7 expansion for the TR8 or buying the TR8-S?
I would go with the TR8-S!
What do you call the beat? I wan't to have a name if I play it for others!

Would have been nicer if it had automation
Honestly, I don’t like this machine, I have one but I can’t let it go. Maybe that’s because it’s the 808, the 909 emulation and they sound not bad.
