Beating someone in a battle is more than just techinal bars. Its also about popularity and how you can make a song connect to an audience. So, to say Pac wouldn't have come back from a Jay Z diss neglects the fact that Pac was so popular at the time that he could have just steam rolled his competition in the eyes of the public. It was actually probably a risky move to explicitly diss him at that time because he could also slay you off record with charisma. Look at 50 Cent and the people he dissed in his career. Jay Z, Big Pun, Kurupt, Jadakiss, Ja Rule, Fat Joe, The Game. I dont like 50 Cent and to me (unlike Pac) I think his skills are wack. Most people he dissed from a technical standpoint could murder him. Some of them made verses, lines, whole songs, getting back at him and it didn't make a dent in his career. I think it would have been the same for Pac and when he can reply with such venom and emotion, and make it catchy while doing it because he knew how to build a song. It was very impactful. Hit Em Up is probably the only diss record out there that has such a fun vibe while maintaining a menacing tone. For example, something quite underrated about Hit Em Up is the hook. Not many diss songs have catchy hooks that are performed by the rapper. "Grab ya glocks when you see 2pac, call the cops when you see 2pac, who shot me? But you punks didn't finish now you bout to feel the wrath of a menace, nigga I hit em up". That is very catchy and allows an audience to actually vibe with the record. Even if you don't agree or like the song, you sing along with it. I don't think there is another diss song quite like it.
I agree 💯!! But to be right, game was the only one who 50 can’t beat. Game destroyed the whole g unit movement and that by himself. Without any help even Dre step back at that time. 50 is the better business man but lyrically game is so much better. 300 bars and running from game is one of the greatest diss records ever in hip hop people forget that. And he had a career after that. He knew he fucked hip hop up with that and he knew that some doors are closed after that for him but he did that and I can respect that. He went on jay hard ass fuck at one time and jay hadn’t the guts to respond cause he knew game la bloods that’s something even the great jay z can’t fuck with. Same with pac, even if jay put that record out right now Los Angeles will be a closed city for him. Just see what happens to biggie, he did one mistake and that was to come back to LA dissing pac on the radio station next day bye bye biggie that’s it. So sad it is but Los Angeles and the culture behind that is something else you can’t complain that just with hip hop or rap music. 50 was on top at that time g unit was under 50 game was in the middle of that and went bigger than 50 allowed it. Game is a street guy 50 couldn’t handle that.
@@Sweetheart-ty9xm you'll know better than I. I largely ignored Game and G Unit together lol. Agree re: the Biggie dissing Pac after his death. This is a dumb narrative, because when has a diss track ever killed a rapper's career? Not even 10993992 million 50 cent diss tracks to Ja Rule killed his career, Ja Rule's music quality slipping killed it. The only thing that would've come out of it is Jay z being more famous lol, just like Eminem indirectly increasing MGK's sales a few years ago with his disstrack.
If Jay Z would've put a diss record out on PAC, He probably would've ended his on career because he wasn't really known at that time. And Pac was embrace by millions of fans.

People forget that in 96' not many in the rap game wanted a piece of Pac, Suge, DR, and everything else that came with it - mainly the bloods. Wasn't JayZ shook so hard that he didn't even want to come to Cali? What a joke...

HE DIDN'T SAY WHO SHOT ME HE SAID WHO SHOT YA REFERENCE TO BIGGIE DIS SONG PAC WAS TO SMART TO SAY WHO SHOT ME PEOPLE🤔
