Hey Rae! Great video! I’m forever learning when it comes to my hair especially as I age. I’m learning that I have to switch things up because I’m doing too much when it comes to my hair at times and that isn’t always good. I think for me the main thing is not comparing my hair to other naturals. Which is hard because I watch videos to learn but what works for someone else may not work for my hair. It’s a process. And what encourages me the most is the fact my girls embrace their natural hair and they’re 12 and 13 so it makes me smile that they’re watching me and learning 😊. And I love your hair ❤
Oh, it is so great to hear that your daughter's are loving their hair because you are loving yours. I've learned that less is more when it comes to my hair, as well. Thanks for sharing 💛
Hello!!! Great video. Thank you for always sharing what works for you, but still emphasizing that people need to learn THEIR hair and proceed accordingly. I started using a light silicone serum as the last step of shampoo day, for added lubrication, instead of an oil. It feels like silk going on to my hair. It has helped with single strand knots and adds protection when I’m under the hooded dryer. I listened to all the boogie men talking about how bad silicones are for your hair. I don’t get buildup because I WASH MY HAIR every week and I only use the serum, very lightly, one time. I decided to ditch what everyone else says and find out for myself.
Hi NaturalRaeRae! Just wanted to say Thank you SO much for this video conversation! It was SO helpful and encouraging! Thanks for reminding me that my hair is not like anyone else and I have to simply listen to what it's telling me. I sometimes forget that. 🙂 You described some of the very things I experienced, and that I am experiencing now!😯🙂 I used to relax and apply heat constantly to my hair, but in 2018 it just about completely all fell out to the point where a coworker at the time thought I was cutting my hair everyday. 😧Umm, NO!!! So, with my sister's strong advice, I did a big chop and completely stopped using chemicals and heat on my hair. Long story short, I LOVE my natural hair! No chemicals and no heat was one of the best things I could have ever done. I'm not going to lie, though. There was a lot of crying and tears, but I made it! I have noticed recently that my texture and/or curl pattern has changed a lot and has become dull and frizzy with the products I have normally used since going natural. So, maybe it is the silicones? I'm not sure, but I'm going to give a few of your suggestions in this video a try, like with using less butters and oils, and trying a conditioning co-wash instead (also another suggestion from my sister 😂). Thanks again, and I look forward to checking out more of your content!☺ Sincerely, B Levert
Hi B! Welcome to the channel and I'm glad you found this video helpful. Yes, listen to your hair and pay attention to what works for you and you'll be fine. I will say that product buildup can make your hair look dull, so clarifying your hair might help. Then follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and moisturizing deep conditioner, preferably without silicones, and see if that makes a difference. Also, frizzy hair can be because of too much moisture and too little protein, so you may want to investigate what you've been using and see if moisture overload is the culprit. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Just continue to research and make adjustments when and if necessary. Thanks so much for watching and commenting so we can get to know each other. 💛
Thank you for addressing silicones. Thanks for emphasizing hair individuality, the use of products & the journey. Yes, natural hair never stays the same. Watch & learn as the hair starts the greying journey.😊 BTW..Your hair looks great!
@@NaturalRaeRae well said in the video! I also read 'The Curly Girl Method when I went natural in 2012. I big chopped and followed her advice as well as the advice of the youtube OG's and I was amazed. I still don't use cones or petrolatum and my hair holds moisture, is shiny and defined. I believe if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Up to yesterday, I was being asked for advice on maintaining natural hair. I love your hair!
@@JadeJade333 thank you! I'm glad you've found what works for your hair and you stick with it! We all can take a page from your book. Thaks for tuning in💛
Thank you for this video. I've been natural since 2014 and you're correct I am still learing my hair and especially when I have turned grey within the last 2 yrs I have had to refigure with the length and grey what my hair wants😂. Just used a leave in product with silcone in it I'll see what happens when I take this twistout down🙄😆. I stopped all the oil and butters too just because I just was doing too much😊. Again thank you.
You're welcome. Yep, our hair is forever changing so we have to evolve with it. I hope the leave-in works and your hair turns out great. Thanks for tuning in💛
Thank you for sharing ❤. This was great information. I’m slowly getting away from all of the confusion with hair products and what to use for my hair. I don’t really know my hair type nor porosity. I just go by how the shampoo and conditioner makes my hair feel. So I really appreciate this video. Thanks again
Hello, Rae! I came across this video! I must say, this is one of your Best videos! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 It was VERY educational… With that said; I decided to go back to the basic…. NO CONES!!!!! Thanks, for sharing. 🥰
I use to use silicones when I first went natural. I also used the Carol Daughter original line and black vanilla line. My hair was so dry. Now I feel I know how to use silicones on my hair. If I have a deep conditioner with silicones I will use it as a pre-poo then use a clarifying shampoo. If I use a styling product with silicones I know on wash day I will have to use a clarifying shampoo to remove the cones. I try not to use silicones because I can tell a difference in my curls moisture level. This was a good video. Thank you for sharing
Great video! Silicones dry out my hair too! And don’t get me started on Carol’s Daughter products; they dry my hair out like crazy. BTW, great hair again! If you don’t mind sharing, what products did you use for your wng? Thanks!
Thank you! This is not a wash and go; it is a twist out and the products I used are in the description box. If you ever want to know what I use, check there because I usually always list it. Thanks for watching💛
Nice to find your channel. You look so much like the women in my family! Are your people from NC? Anyway, I'm mostly doing blowouts these days and find water soluble silicones make a big difference in preventing rough ends. When I do twistouts I avoid the silicones but I do get tangled ends whenever I don't stretch with a little heat. I also use the Revair, which I see you have a video on that I'm about to watch. Thanks for all you do, sis. And beautiful hair you have!
Glad you stopped by. I am not from NC but people say I have a familiar face. Thanks for sharing the ways you use silicones; I'm sure it will help others in the comments. I love my RevAir, so fast and easy. Thanks for tuning in and for the compliment on my hair💛
Hey Rae! Great video! Thank you for sharing your reasoning for not using silicones. I have never really evaluated or noticed if my hair behaved differently with or without silicones in the product. I don't think my hair becomes noticeably dry after using a product with them. I usually am always using a shampoo of some type so that may be why I haven't noticed. I am going to make an effort to do so and I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for sharing this info!
Rae I really enjoyed this video! 🥰💙.. Great info .. when I first went natural there was so much info .. once I got it down (sort to speak) ..but a lot of trial and error as well. Hair has also changed due to aging.. I only get hair straightened/blow dry for my trims 💙
This was so good 😊I really enjoyed it. Me personally, I don’t make a big deal about it. I have high porosity hair and the occasional use doesn’t bother me. Btw. ❤ your hair 😊😊It was the what happened was & don’t come for me in the comments 😊😊😊😂😂😂❤

Same here. I do way too much after I’ve watched videos of what possibly will work for my hair. Yes I love this video
A good clarifying shampoo once a month is fine if you use silicones.
Absolutely not
@@Zcodee-ox1ju Absolutely yes! Although, maybe not for your hair, and that's fine.
