    I love the interface here. I have the Panasonic AG-UX90 which is similar. For contrast I have the Canon C100. The Panny is great. No overheating, no need for lens picking, and so on. Cost is another factor. The S1H and now. S5 II is way more money too. Needs an XLR kit, more lenses, and so on. I mostly do my work in doors with good lighting. The camcorder does the whole thing in one package. I use mostly line level with mine. Camcorders are amazing given their versatility, and the complete in one package. Which is why I won't ever count a camcorder out.

    Great tutorial. Our company just upgraded from the Panasonic HC-X1 to this one Panasonic HC-X2. This is a pretty good tutorial but I wish you could have gone in and explained some of the new features in the menu. This Panasonic camcorder has way more options in the menu and I would like to know how to use some of these new features. But thank you for taking the time to make this video it was definitely helpful.

    Great review Richard.
    I love using camcorders, especially on run and gun, sports and events type work and overall this looks like a great camcorder in most respects and it seems to shoot really nice images. Not quite as many high end specs as something like the XF 605 from Canon but then considering the price difference you wouldn’t expect it to have all the same features.
    However the deal breaker for me is not having a 3.5 audio input jack and therefore no 4 track audio recording option which I’ve been using lately on solo shoots and love it as I can use an XLR shotgun mic (either on a boom or on camera) on tracks 1 and 2 and a wireless system, like the DJI Mic, on tracks 3 and 4 both with safety tracks set around 6db lower on the second track (2 and 4) and that gives me so much flexibility in terms of what sounds the best in different situations and peace of mind in terms of capturing good audio with plenty of back up and it’s working really well so I’d hate to have to go back to being limited to recording on 2 tracks only especially on what would be my main camcorder if I bought something like this.
    But if you don’t need or use 4 track audio then this seems like a good option for the price.

    When the XC-2000 was released, I wanted to get one to use for YT studio setup. Being at the start of the pandemic, they weren’t available so I ordered the HC-X1 and used it for about 2 years and sold it as I started to travel and do YT, which required a lighter setup. It’s nice to see Panasonic update to the HC-X2, the display was horrible for outdoor use. I really liked that camera and figured I would have it for a while., even with the short comings. Just recently entered the SONY camp for their autofocus, stabilization and cinema based system by picking up the FX30. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for the review, Richard. I can certainly see how useful something like the HC-X2 would be, but since I could get a couple of GH5 II for around the same price, I would probably find it hard to go the camcorder route.

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Год назад +8

      Thanks! Re price , remember you will need to add the price of a 20x power zoom lens (which doesn't exist), the xlr audio input module, ND filters to the price of the gh5ii,. But you still don't have the benefit of the large capacity battery and all those wired+wireless streaming options and things like SDI output. Now of course the gh5ii can also do many things this xch2 can't. But I think depends on what you need, for some users, the xch2 is actually a better and more cost effective and easier to use solution than the gh5ii , that is once you become familiar with the menu system on the xch2

    Nice review. These video cameras are definitely not discreet, and i could see the amateur film maker being asked to leave a lot more places or asked for a permit than the old days when everyone had a big VHS camcorder. It's not that much bigger than a mirrorless when you kit it out with a cage, monitor, v-mount battery and zoom on rails, that some a7iii users carry. It's nice to see they continue to make the all in one easy to use camcorder, and it looks pretty decent. First step towards an fx9 for the beginner that does not care about gear acquisition. Great review

    Thank you for the review. Having 3 of the previous model UX180/ HC-X1 I was very glad to see Panasonic make the HC-X2 which addresses the shortcomings of the original. Don't like that face focus doesn't work in manual config, or that fast zoom cannot be turned on by default. Also lost DCI 4K and .5mm on the wide end. However, just the fact that they improved the horrible LCD screen and the annoying limitation of only being able to use either LCD or EVF at a time is enough reason to buy this. The HC-X2 is now a very good camera for this category. Working on replacing my UX180 / HC-X1 cams with X2s now, and maybe my HMC-150s also.

    Mr. Wong,
    Congratulations and thank you for such a well thought and beautifully well presented review of this camcorder. I spent weeks to several months looking around and researching this camcorder trying to find information about it. You answered all my questions about it, or at least most of my questions, in one sitting.
    What I really appreciated about your review and demonstration is that you DID NOT try and piggyback the HC-X20 or the HC-X2000 onto this and pass it off as the same thing. You did limited side by side comparisons with the 2000 unit, but kept it minimal. You only provided enough information to illustrate your points exactly. Thank you for that. I truly enjoyed how you focused mainly on the Panasonic HC-X2, which is exactly what I wanted to know about.
    I saw a lot of other videos that claimed to be a review, but were nothing less than a poor and half baked demo and showoff video with very little worthwhile content. A few of them were Ok, but only just. Most of them lacked a lot of detail and felt like the demonstrator just wanted to get it done and over with. It seemed to me that they weren't interested in doing a review, and so only did a partial and disjointed review.
    I enjoyed how you went through many of the settings and provided examples and brief descriptions about the features and capabilities of the Panasonic HC-X2 Camcorder Unit. Thank you fur that.
    I don't think it is possible, but I am trying to save up enough money to buy this exact unit. Although it has wireless streaming capabilities that I'll probably never use, it does have features available that it's smaller counterpart and less advanced HC-X20 does not have.
    It's mostly the full manual control and customizable features that I have the most interest in. I love the ability to be able to have full manual control of my camcorder when filming. Certain filmmaking settings don't allow or severely hamper certain types of wildlife settings and can and will ruin a shot, or worse. I've often missed filming opportunities because I have a fully automated camcorder that is excessively limited with manual overrides that barely work and are carefully stacked away and hidden in an overly complex digital screen menu. I could not get my camcorder to focus on the subject matter that I was trying to film because the auto focus and auto settings had other ideas. The result was piss poor footage and lost opportunities.
    To be able to have full manual control right at my fingertips is my idea of a dream camcorder. I'm negotiating with Panasonic, and am trying to save enough money to buy one of these beautiful camcorders. Sadly, the price of this unit has skyrocketed since it initial release in 2022. Now instead of paying "$2500.00, I have to pay up to around"$3750.00USD for the exact same unit that was just released a couple of years go. That was back in 2022. Here we are 2 years later and the price for one of these is getting more and more expensive. That's not right.
    Nevertheless, I am still trying my damnedest to save enough money to buy one of these. I suppose that I could buy a lesser camcorder. But I don't want to settle. I did it once before and I still get sick to my stomach 4 years later. I won't do that again. It's either this unit or none.
    Thank you VERY MUCH Mr. Wong, for your very well presented and thought out video review.

    What camcorders are still needed for is sports broadcasting. Mechanical zoom with a zoom rocker via a LANC port. A budget alternative for that purpose is the Lumix FZ2500 bridge camera which has a 1 inch sensor, 20x mechanical zoom that works with a zoom rocker for $900 new.

I already have the S5iiX pre-ordered and I have 3 S5 cameras already. I do a ton of live-streaming, but I think using the atem mini with wireless hdmi transmitters is better for my workflow because I can record all the individual feeds plus the program on one SSD. I don’t have time for offloading 8 cards after an all day gig. I love the zoom range and convenience of a camcorder though. Such tough decisions.

    Great review! Subscribing was a no-brainer for me. I based my decision to buy the X2 partially on your review. No pressure, right? 🙂 I've had the X2 for just two days now, and not a lot of time behind the camera yet. I'm coming from a decade-old Panasonic AG-AC90. Thus far, there are two things I miss coming from the AC90. Here is my 2 cents, FWIW:
    First, the X2 does not have a 1/3 grid for the viewfinder nor for the LCD screen. Not a dealbreaker, but I do miss it for making sure my camera is level and square against a reference point in the background. That said, the X2 has a leveler meter that mostly makes up for the lack of a grid.
    Second issue is the font used on the screen. I'm 64 and my near vision is not the best. The AC90 uses nice bold fonts for letters and numbers, as well as for the 1/3 screen grid. The super thin font used on the X2 is very frustrating to see. If there is a way of changing the font in the setup menu, I have not found it yet.
    Finally, so far, I'm not a fan of the color saturation of the new X2 compared to the old AC90. The latter is much richer and not washed out. That said, I am confident that the color issue is likely 99.999% user related (me) and not the fault of the camcorder. Oh! The X2's lowlight capability is spectacular compared to the old AC90.

    I have the Panasonic Hc-x20, which is the cheaper version. Anyone here have the Hc-x20 or Hc-x2? I zoom in and focus then zoom out, but feel like the backfocus is off a bit, anyone else who have the camera's feel the same way? And is there a way to fix it?
    And I was trying to get one of the people from Panasonic on the phone to ask a couple of questions, but never got through. How is the cheaper version, Hc-x20 compared to the Hc-x2, is the video quality the same? Or does the Hc-x2 have a better sensor and does it do better in low light compared to Hc-x20? I have Hc-x1 and when a man was wearing a black suit and you have the gain up, even at 6db or 10db, his suit looks noisy? Is the camera Hc-x2 better at this than Hc-x20?

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Год назад +2

      Hi Chris! i feel both 24-70 are great for different reasons. But if you shoot mainly video, i would go for the Lumix as it seems Lumix lens works slightly better than Sigma when it comes to continuous autofocus. Not really a huge difference but if you want the smoothest AF results, the Lumix would be a safer bet. But if you shoot mainly photos, the Sigma provides great value for money!

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Год назад

      and for the Lumix 70-200 2.8, to be honest i haven't shot a lot of video with this lens, but if the focal length is suitable to you, it is awesome! I am more a prime lens shooter myself, but one zoom lens i love and use a lot is 70-200 f/2.8. I use that for weddings, sports, events, and many other things !

      @@TheRealRichardWong I shoot mainly video on the s1h & Bs1h for interviews. This year I shot 40 weddings. Next year I want to shoot 12 max and focus more on the commercial side that has grown way more. I was looking at catta cine zooms but I think for my one man band filming style I think a mirrorless will still serve me better than jumping to cine lenses. I have the sigma 24-70 already but as I use MF more and more I’m finding the focusing ring to be too loose and even at linear and maximum too touchy. I’m hoping to panny 24-70 offers better MF experience. If it does, I’ll switch to panny 24-70 for my a cam and 70-200 2.8 for my b cam during A/B cam interviews which is basically what I would have accomplished by getting the the T2.9 Catta zooms. It would be cheaper and I’d still have access to AF if needed. Smaller lens setup also but still big enough to impress the clients lol
      I’d still be able to use this duo for the few weddings I’ll film next year also.

    • @ChrisFlores22
      @ChrisFlores22 Год назад
