  • I've been fortunate enough to receive the box and manual for the elusive and infamous eMachines eOne! It was a rare all-in-one computer that intentionally mimicked the Apple iMac G3 in 1999 and it's rare enough on its own. The box and instruction book though? Oh yeah, this is the good stuff.
    Here's my video on the eOne over on LGR: • eMachines eOne: 1999 A...

I loved that machine, and even upgraded it to the rare 1Ghz AMD slot A Thunderbird CPU , and maxed out the RAM, using it will into the early 00's. Wish we still had those machines but her's died with a motherboard failure taking out the system, so I sold it for the useable parts on eBay to help fund her next computer, and mine was given to my sister so my nieces, and nephew would have something, and one of them ended up killing it with kool aid about 6 months later🤦‍♂

    If you are planning to store the actual machine inside this box make sure you add some padding to the bottom. You see, it originally probably came in styrofoam linings and that takes and distributes the weight of the machine. Without that the weight of the machine just presses on some points or alond edges of the machine's case that can easily wear out or poke the box. And another thing, maybe you could look into reinforcing the carrying handle hole part, it looks torn on one side and if you were to lift the box while the machine is inside it's guaranteed to be ripped.

By contract (with the call center), we were required to get the caller's name, address, phone, and serial number of the machine, and then ask if they were wanting a replacement machine or a refund (about 80% of the retail price). No actual tech support, just replace or refund. That contract didn't last long at the call center I worked for, about 3 months if I remember correctly.

    Before Best Buy carried/sold Apple computers and their other products, they sold that eMachine Macintosh clone. Best Buy didn’t sell many of them either, even though the eMachine rep would push us (computer department employees) to sell it as the ‘best’ of both worlds - a cheap, inexpensive Mac clone that - with VM installed - could double as a fully functioning Windows PC. It was a neat idea at the time, but anyone who came in wanting a Windows-based PC would balk at it. I believe we sold one or maybe two of those machines a month, if we were lucky. • @squirlmy
      @squirlmy 2 года назад

      The entire concept of software being covered by copyright at all was 1983 Apple Computer, Inc. v. Franklin Computer Corp. Franklin put out a clone of the Apple IIe and simply used a direct copy of it's BIOS. The earlier examples of companies imitating IBM's BIOS, IBM settled because they didn't want to take the chance of losing (or having software and firmware with very limited copyright). I believe Franklin lawyers argued that only human-readable text was covered by copyright, so machine-readable text or code wasn't covered. So, Apple legally defending it's IP is nothing new. They've sued many, many companies and people, and put huge amounts of investment in law firms and "innovation" into legal protections. Always have.

    The eMachines brand is a venerable one, perhaps because of my own bias towards the brand. Very good XP machine, and it even came with Bejeweled! Now that I think of it, it was probably a secondhand computer itself.
