Initial Test Setup for Ultrasonic Sensors

  • In this video, we show a reasonable first step in getting familiar with
    the ultrasonic sensors. (thanks to Mengineers team and Kaan Karaoglu for the video)
    We use a function generator to generate the trigger signal. To do this we select a square wave, adjust it to 20% duty cycle (the lower limit) and apply it to the sensor.
    To read out the signal, we put the pulse on Channel 1, and the echo signal from the sensor on Channel 2.
    By placing objects at different distances, the variation of the echo pulse width is observable.
    As a next step, you can generate a more proper trigger pulse using the PIC (instead of fund. generator). In this case, the echo readout on the oscilloscope should be much cleaner.
    After you get familiar with these sensors, then you can try to implement the pulse-and-listen-for-echo sequence with PIC only.
