    I'm retired now, but used to change my own oil on a C15. First time I pulled the drain plug, the oil came out sideways and I missed the pan! You were doing pretty good there not making a mess(almost) I use that same strap wrench even at home. I always hated trying to screw the filter back on full of oil. Watching you lug those 5 gallon buckets up on the tire then up on the engine reminded me...that I don't really miss that stuff...
    Good job Mike!

    My 72 Pete 352 with the 8V71 took 11 gallons of oil. (it had a Luberifiner) I got the oil changes (and all filters- Fuel/Oil) down to two hours. Including a full lube job. Had to jack up the front axel to grease the king pins. Still a dirty job. I used to buy Mobil Delvac oil in 55 gallon barrels. Carried a 5 gallon container in the truck for interim oil fills. Cases of Mobile grease. Strangely satisfying to do the service, even as dirty as it could get.

    Handy K-100 tip.
    Check the bolt for the shifter cable to the transmission, if it's a pin, replace with a graded bolt. Also throughly check the Clutch Linkage joints for wear. I've had to drive our K-100's three times after clutch linkage failures in New York Boston and Chicago. The clutch linkage is a very weak adjustable design, especially at the front next the radiator.
    The cab safety is located on the passenger side frame on the actual cab ram.

    Can tell you the low and high litres of the oil pan, then mark your dipstick appropriately. It’s surprising how much fuel in the oil is within spec. Setting the overhead helps to get rid of fuel in the oil.injector if stuck closed won’t put fuel in the oil,. It’s an easy engine to work on,,you’ll figure it out, one of the old techs in your service dept is a good source of info. Enjoying the journey with you. Keep safe my friend.

    A lot of the times the treadle valve is not the problem, it is the piston top under the foot peddle. the one that was frozen you had to free up. Moisture gets in there and corrosion starts clogging up the slide in which it slides. without taking the valve out, you can take the foot peddle off whilst still fitted to vehicle. free up the slide with corrosion cleaner and presto, one has a moving pedal again . By the time you read this you would have found that out was the problem and not the valve itself ... welcome to transport ....

  • @brocluno01
    @brocluno01 3 года назад

    I don't think that fuel in the oil is necessarily a sign of a bad injector. Maybe, but not at idle speed around the yard. I think it's more likely a failed seal (or 2 ) in the injector pump ... We went through a lot of injector pump overhauls when the world switched to low sulfur diesel, just about the time this truck was parked ...
    I don't doubt your motor has bad injectors. The way it runs is classic bad injectors. It needs a set of rebuilts with guaranteed good patterns. But there is more going on.

  • @m35a2ww
    @m35a2ww 3 года назад

    That fuzz on the magnet could be from an issue that series of engine had. They had, IIRC, 18 degree cups in the injectors. They were switched to 17 degree....might have been the other way around, It has been a bit....to reduce sooting of the oil. The soot level in the oil wore the nose of the valve rocker levers. This made the engine sound like a typewriter....a different noise than the injector oil tappets popping off. The wear ruins the levers and cross heads.

  • @burlybair
    @burlybair 3 года назад

    Dipsticks and other engine add-ons are not supplied by the engine company. The vehicle manufacturer (Paccar) adds those items. So they are not always accurate. Quite often an owner will drain the oil and refill it with the engine's builders specs and re-mark the dip stick. Also engines came with different oil pans and a generic Paccar dip stick may not be accurate.

    If you are going to go 9 years between oil changes, you are going to blow that engine real fast with that cheap oil. I would be using Amsoil 100% Synthetic lubes, at least you can go some between changes then and the Amsoil oil Filters will last you some time also. I use Amsoil all the time and i treat my fuel with the Diesel Recovery for the fuel to keep it clean and dry up any water in the tanks. It may cost a little more, but you either pat a little now, or a lot later to someone to fix the engine.
