One of the things I love about 70’s Sesame Street, it feels like an actual street on New York rather than just a kids show on a playground. From Seasons 1-24 it had a nice atmosphere. Starting Season 25 is when they made the set for the show look all colorful and whatnot.
The idea of Sesame Street having an actual New York street vibe during its beginnings came from Jon Stone after watching a commercial with the tagline, “Send your kid to a ghetto this summer”, which was filmed at a street in Harlem. During the show’s beginning in 1969, Sesame Street truly did have an inner-city vibe for disadvantaged children to see a place on television that they can identify with. However, by 1993, Sesame Street’s location officially looked more like a colorful suburban village, and it still is today.
The urban suburban divide is less important for kids these days, because most American cities have gentrified to at least some extent (there’re still rough neighborhoods, of course…). That’s nominally why the show changed its look. I agree that the grittier appearance had some artistic benefit though.
@@lekoman That is true. New York City did start to brighten up during the 1990’s, and it would make sense why Sesame Street was repainted to look brighter and more kid-friendly. I also heard that Sesame Street had to be brightly colored due to rating competitions against Barney the Dinosaur.
As much as I loved Mr. Hooper, he is one of the few people on Sesame Street Oscar actually is patient with. Because Oscar is less grouchy with Mr. Hooper than any of the others on Sesame Street.
I agree! I never understood that personally could it be because of the fact that maybe he makes the right food for Oscar? I wish we could know that, but it’s a shame that Will Lee who played him has been dead since 1982.😢
I think that there is another similar sketch where Luis installs a doorbell for Oscar, but Oscar asks Luis to adjust the volume to the point that it is silent. I don't know whether it is a part of this same episode or not. If not, I would love to see that sketch posted here as well.

I like that Oscar stops groaning to say thanks, lol
That’s the only time I heard Mr. Hooper just called “Hooper” with no Mr.
A rare clip with Hal Miller playing Gordon, I think he only played Gordon for a couple of years before Roscoe Orman took over.
The no country for old man hairstyle lmao
lol love this 😂😊

Ytp title: Oscar’s doorbell is stupid
Sesame Street doesn’t need to win an Oscar! It’s already got an Oscar!
This is in advance of future anti-bulling campaigns!
Poor Oscar can't win, can he?
We must be very quiet and try not to bother other people when they’re sleeping or doing homework

Not in this episode, I'd be curious to know which show that is in
