One of the most epic masterpieces ever created. so bruting with layers and textures galore. You can feel the all real emotion oozing out of this album. It's hard to believe that someone actually wrote this. you can just sense the anger and pain they must of went through during the making of this album. It's like a trip to the core of insanity and chaos. 31 years old and music still hasn't caught up to this day. Many a band has tried to sound like The Pup but no one ever has been able to make music like this. It's a shame how forgotten they are considering their influence on darker electronic music. Too Dark Park is amazing as well.

Then you watch interviews with CEvin key and see he looks like every gay marketing director you have ever met in corporate setting, plus dread locks.
And Ohger off stage is one of the happiest people you could ever meet.
I agree, the music is intense and best describes one’s anxious journey through society, yet when you meet the humans that pulled that off, it seems hard to believe it came from them. Goes to show how dynamic our souls can be when driven.

When this album dropped in 1992, I was 19 and already a long time SP fan...but the first single that was played over the radio in my area was Download and it took me and my friend at the time COMPLETELY by surprise. We were transfixed the moment we heard those unnerving piano string brushes right through the 8+ minute ambient drone outro and it wasn't until the DJ said "and that was the track Download from the latest Skinny Puppy album..." that my I even clued into the fact that I had been listening to one of my favourite bands. This album (and THAT track in particular) are such a departure from anything they had ever done previously, or have ever done subsequently.
This work is, by any fair assessment, a masterpiece of electronic music. It is a sprawling sonic playground. It takes the listener to places that most probably hadn't thought possible - it's at once chaotic and cohesive, and they push both their synths, programming and vocals into some very pioneering territory.
I now listen to jazz, classical, hiphop and pop too...but this album still gets more than a few listens every year. After all this time, and perhaps because of it, I'm stilled awed by how the guys pulled this on off. It is genius, gorgeous, challenging and ear-candy all at the same time. "I taught the game first!"

Oh man how many days and nights have I had this playing in the background and most of my friends just never really got it. I'm from the middle of nowhere and I have always tended to be drawn to the darker side of everything, whether it's music, movies, fashion and art. I had no idea what Industrial music was when I was young but I was waaaay fucking industrial from the jump. My folks were hicks being into hick-ish stuff. I don't want to seem like I was a little douche being against the grain-abrasive just to show the family and friends that I hated every aspect of where I'm from, but I knew from my elementary school days and on from there that I was just not into the same stuff that I was being raised around. There was a guy that I met at the only skate shop within 50 miles of my house and I started talking to him about where I lived and he was actually from right down the road. He was now living in a town between where the shop was and where I'm from. He was a decent number of years older than me and physically disabled from a Motorcycle accident which was in my lane because at the time I was a sponsored GNCC racing fiend of a kid. I ended up hanging out with my new friend that weekend and we have been dear friends since, but there's one very important thing that this person is responsible for, it's the first time I was able to hear this album and it was like scratching an itch that was always there but it's never been reached before. I was 14 then, riding a RM 125 all over the place, no lights, full race bike that I had retired from the life but repurposed into my own Mad Max Moto Monster: rattle can paint job, crazy retreads that were some of my first attempts at cutting my own tires(the old man had a tire cutter) and I brushed the metal if it wasn't painted so I could not be seen in the dark.My new friend saw me on the bike and instantly realized that we were going to be around each other for the long haul. This man still loves to tell people that are around both of us that he is responsible for the variety of the musical taste that I have. This is not totally the case but he is absolutely responsible for the real Industrial music of what I would say is the "Golden Era" of the genre. Now there are so friggin many different names for so many types of the same thing really(I know that I will be crucified by my peers here in the YT comment section) but the music is the most important thing that this is really about anyhow, right? Skinny Puppy,Nitzer Ebb, Frontline Assembly, Front 242, Consolidated, Ministry, Revolting Cocks,KMFDM,Die Krupps and the list keeps going but the message is getting across hopefully. Thanks John for the injection of the angry heroin fueled, angry electronic music that is really truly appreciated by a narrow few people who are very hard to find growing up in the middle of nowhere, Indiana farmland. Long winded, sorry but I'm feeling nostalgic today.😊

Skinny Puppy are the true parents of deep electronica.
There is a clear difference between the second half of the album and the first, divided at minute 26:30. While the first half accommodates somewhat more conventional music, the second half plunges us into deeper electronica. With an open and never-before-seen sound instrumentation, perhaps a very distant evolution of John Cage and a perverse auditory machine exploring the world. Somehow it slowly immerses us in that labyrinthine electronic environment of an amusement park with no exit.

Check out Too Dark Park and ViViSectVi if you haven't already. Don't sleep on LaHuman8 and Left Hand Shake, which were two of the unreleased tracks for Last Rights. Another few things I would recommend to you regarding SP, is to listen to these three albums in reverse, starting from their last track. Also, normally at 1/2. Nice talking to you.

Their best album in my opinion. Their old stuff is too 80's which is great but holds it back. Same with CFM. A little flat. Non-explosive. You can argue they were better like that and you could be right. CFM nailed the horror angle so it is their most special and valuable album. Too Dark and Process are dark but in many ways are actually bright and nice and very Canadian. All good things. No doubt. But Last Rites brings it all together to perfection. You could call it a Hollywood sequel to CFM, meaning it's the same but the action is crank up.

    Inquisition Lyrics:
    Latent manner
    Speak parting
    Bonding cement no longer holds
    Parting fits
    Too young to grow old
    Addicted romance
    Love tested
    Healing from substance abuse
    Wicked resenting
    Never faces itself
    Torturer taints
    Animal waits
    No environment
    Torturer laughing
    Righteous
    Real-time intrusion
    Fears filtered
    For reasons unknown
    Cancer attack
    Leaching
    Desserts so sweet
Leaves bitter taste in the mouth
    Forever
    Torturer taints
    Animal waits
    Corners creeping fear
Tasting force-fed lies of the wicked
    Acting out fears
    False truths turned around
    Wicked torture
    Wicked, wicked
    Pain
The wicked words of the torturer
    Abusing and controlling anyone
    That's useful to him
    Wicked waiting of the torturer
    Wicked waits the torturer
    (Torture, torture, torture)
    Reads story
    Truth seething
    Believed poison
    Eaten, swallows
    Turning away
    Torturer taints animal
    With hate, enlightenment
    Turned away
    No change
    The wicked
    Not facing himself
    Controls turning away
    Wicked torturer
    Force-fed torment
    Animal torture
    Torturer turning away
    Wicked torturer
    Wicked not facing his self
    Wicked turning away
    Wicked turning away
    Turning away
    Disappearing from himself
    Tortures the animal
    Tortures the animal
