Marian Legion set up again to be historically acurate: 1 first eagle cohort 9 same legion cohort(all legions order of battle has 10 cohorts) 1- artillery unit 3 cavalery(mostly foreign orgin) 2 shock 1 horse skimishers 3 foot skimishers also mostly foreign orgin. 2 auxiliary mosty spearman on the wings of main body of legion. General: mosty cav.
@nikelaos5792 Artillery was not used that extensively and also the auxiliary setup is a bit too less. You are right about the 1 eagle 9 regular cohorts. However, with a 20 unit army, you can't really do this because the Auxilia to Roman ratio was actually 50 50.
@nikelaos5792 what I would say is 7 cohorts (1 of which is eagle) 5 auxilia cohorts (2 spear flank or screen 3 melee usually reserves) 1 general 3 auxilia cav 2 auxilia skirmishers 2 auxilia slingers/archers
Imperial Legion similar to marian one (basic 9 cohorts 1 eagle cohort) however more localized for example, take romanised galic cohorts if legion is recriuted in Gaul. Same in Pannonia, Syria, Hispania, Asia minor and so on. Rest is mosty the same. The more rome has conquered, the more it relied on foreigners.
I think more historically army set up(polibyan) wolud be: 5 velites 5 hastati 5 principes 2 equites 2 triarii Commander unit: pretorians (if he has perk - brutal) then we have more or less actual division acording to the records (triarii was half of combined number for principes same with hastati and velites) Cav bodyguards - any other character perk.
@nikelaos5792 correct. That's almost very accurate but slightly less on the cav. Also, it leaves no room for auxilia like archers or slingers, both of which Romans used. Historically, there is no set army composition but a lose template with some variations. What you described is one such template. For example, at Cannae, Roman cavalry was massively ratioed by their infantry. But at Zama, things were different. So within the same era itself, you see a huge difference in the composition. Personally, I would go for 1 general 3 cavalry (auxilia) 2 velites 4 hastati 4 principes 2 triarii (this is more the correct ratio of half strength) 2 archers/slingers (auxilia) 4 auxilia infantry (like Iberians or Celts who fought alongside Rome)

Great review. Soldiers look so beautiful. I thought the Rorarii were skirmishers while the Accensi were levy spearmen ?

How do you use movement indicators above the minimap, I thought they were only accessible in multiplayer.
I have seen people using them during singleplayer campaigns.

How do you zoom out so far in battle map? That would help me so much with horse archer warfare.
@josephmasten7588 turn off the max battle zoom setting in the camera menu. I know right? Max zoom is actually less.

Rome is so OP it's not even funny. They really should be toned down tbh.
AI Rome is quite OP yes. But the units themselves are not OP until of course the Marian reforms.
