- Empress has done it again with this elegant compressor. For starters, they shrunk their original nearly in half, with a tight vertical form, top-mounted jacks, and compact presentation - without sacrificing any features! The Empress Compressor mkII is a great choice for those wanting a versatile compressor that retains clarity and transparency when needed, yet can still handle some heavier limiting. Great for the pedalboard or studio, the Compressor mkII does its job without sounding like you have an "effect" on.
Excellent demo - I'm looking forward to getting your Empress in the next few days and playing with it and getting it on the board! ~Pete
If you still have it, I’d absolutely love to see what you can do with its side chain aspects. I’m so curious about that. The other guitar player in the band I’m in and I are stuck on this , or the Cali 76. Love your videos man!
dyinggggg to add this pedal to my rig
it's a great comp!
For clean tone would you pick JHS pulp n peel or this? (:
The Pulp n Peel is nice, but I tend to prefer pretty transparent compressors. I think theirs is based off a Ross, which would be more colored than the Empress.
@@AmbientEndeavors, the Pulp 'N' Peel is based on the Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer, a completely different circuit than the Ross compressor.
Do you keep a compressor on your board always? If so, is it this one?
I do ! It’s the Bondi Squish As - subtle and tasteful, doesn’t get in the way which I like, but I find I miss it when it’s not on.
Nice! What are your thoughts on the Cali76? Seems like a lot of people say it’s the best compressor in pedal form. I currently have the Walrus Audio Mira on my board, but I’ve been wanting to try something else.
Does it sound the same / better / worse than the first version in your opinion?
It's been years since I owned/played the original, so hard to comment on a direct comparison. This one sounds great though, has all the features of the old one and then some.
Sorry but the core tone and the type of loops you use do not make it easy to capture what the pedal is doing... it all sounds like a warbly, lovely but confused ambient loop (and maybe that’s your purpose actually 😝)
haha I hear ya. It's true to the sounds I usually go for, but I hear that it might distract from the compressor effect. I don't imagine I'll be doing many more compressor demos ;-)
Not full demo as you did not test the sidechaine feature.
Touche! I focused just on various sounds w/ guitar here. I'm sure someone will demonstrate the sidechain feature far better than I could.
Knobs does an awesome job showcasing the side chain a few minutes into his video - worth checking out!
