Nick thanks for having an honest 28 gauge and sub gauge assessment, lots of weird half truths on youtube. However if you open up your 12 gauge choke you can give yourself a bit more room for error with the same pellets per square inch. Most of the time you are either on the bird or not, there are many factors at play not just the pellets thrown down range. Most of those other factors are a bigger deal.

You’re right, a lot of factors come into play and getting the most out of what you’ve got is key.

What’s your thoughts on the 28g for pheasant?

With the proper load then it can handle the job. Pheasant are some tough birds but they’re no different than any other game species. With the right preparation and figuring out the pattern and payload, then it comes down to how good a shot your are. If shooting off tail feathers then it won’t matter if you’re shooting even a 10g.
