    Great overview! I bought my son an Orion 2 1/2 years ago. Over 70,000 rounds and zero malfunctions with any thing from light skeet reloads to magnum duck loads. Patterns exceptional with Black Clouds and anything federal(Carlson's chokes). Best value in O/U's, really wanting one in 28 ga. !!!

      I was actually just thinking the same. I'm looking for a nice little upland bird gun in preferably 28 or 410 but it seems Weatherby doesn't make one. Only 28 ga. they offer is in a SxS. 😥

    I own the exact model in the video. It was my first over/under and I fell in love with it so much that I ended up buying a clay-throwing machine (started on hand thrown). And then came the wobble base. And then after about 5000 rounds, I have to say, it has given me zero issues. Fires everytime, and ejects everytime it's supposed to whether you've shot both rounds or just a round. This shotgun was the start to an over/under fettish.
    Also, for me, I found the recoil manageable on the chest but my cheeks seem to take the majority of the punishment. I shoot with the cheek comb raised as well. I have high cheek bones, which may explain it..?

    I've had my Orion Sporting for a few years now. Hundreds of rounds through it, never had any issues with it. I absolutely love mine, and would highly recommend for Sporting clays.

    Got the same model a couple years ago. Love it. Nice simple look, works great

    you can actually change the trigger weight to lighten it up by relocating the trigger pin to the most rearward hole on the assembly

    When reviewing an over/under can you include pattern the POI vs the POA of the bottom barrel bs the top barrel.

    I have an Orion field model with the much more open grip area. I’ve had since about 95-96’ it has been a great field 12 ga. A lot of pheasant have fallen to it over the years and it has been perfectly reliable. Best birthday gift i ever got!

    I bought an Orion sporting 12 ga back in June have over a thousand rounds through it, not one issue. It’s a great gun so far two things I’d like to see is more spacers to raise the comb, lighter trigger pull weight and it’d be nice to have a little adjustment for LOP. Being 6’6 most are on the shorter side for me. Great review keep up the good work!!

    Nice review as always. Wish you would have mentioned what type of chokes/ threads are used in the Weatherby.

    I had the Orion Sporting in 20 gauge. Over 1000+ shells through it and it was a bear to open directly after shooting (while still warm). This never corrected itself even after trying heavier loads, and I ended up selling it. There is a RUclipsr who had the exact same problem and goes into depth about the issue. Still, there are many owners with absolutely no problems. Other than the issue with opening after shooting, I thought the gun was great for the price.

    Great O/U shotgun. I bought mine over a year ago and have put over 1000 rounds through it. Not one problem. Great pointer and a good comfortable shooter. A great value for the money. I also have a Belgium made Browning Citori. The Orion is much lighter than the Browning and a lot less cumbersome to operate. Of course the Browning is a much older gun. It's a plain Jane but I'm pretty happy with it. Great value. Great price. An excellent shotgun for the price.

    I bought the Tristar TT-15 Sporting which was about $250 cheaper than the Weatherby out the door. The big thing I noticed was the heavy trigger pull. the TT-15 is 4# on my trigger gauge. I prefer under 5 pounds, and really closer to 3.5#. I think it may get closer to that as I only have 250 rounds through the gun. The only thing the Weatherby does have is the adjustable stock.

    • @richardsveum8452
      @richardsveum8452 Год назад

      The TT 15 is a solid gun, make sure you keep it clean as rust is an issue on these guns. Have also seen a couple of broken firing pins but Tri-Star’s customer service is top notch

  • @joeschnapps1712

    Steve, you can lighten the trigger by moving the trigger pin to the other hole.

    Bought a 12 and 20 gauge Orion Sporting this summer. 12 gauge has performed flawlessly after 2000 rounds. No issues at all although I do wish it had a mid bead. The 20 gauge OTOH was a lemon. After less than 75 rounds the bottom barrel wouldn't fire. Sent it back to Weatherby and got it back after 6 weeks. They said they "made adjustments". Back to the range and within 3 boxes of shells had the same issue. Luckily I purchased a firearms service plan with Sportsmans Warehouse and they took the gun back. Loved the feel/balance and lower recoil of the 20 gauge but very disappointed in Weeatherbys service. Traded up the 20 gauge to a 12 gauge A400 with kickoff - great gun but now I still need a 20 gauge!

    Plenty of ATA’s are getting used in Britain these days.
    Rumor has it that trigger is adjustable if you can track down ATA’s documentation (I don’t think Weatherby tells you how).

      Hi it is very easy to adjust the trigger pull, just remove the action and change a pin under the trigger from one hole to another, there are only 2 holes under the trigger, you will not make a mistake

    I want to get into the sport, is there an over under with ejectors that you would recommend over this that stays under the $1100 mark?

  • @richardsveum8452
    @richardsveum8452 Год назад +1

    We have a couple of kids on our high school trap team using these guns, for the money they seem to be strong competitors. Based on the Beretta 686 so at least they have a good base.

    I have both the 12 gauge and 20 gauge in this exact model. I like them! I would like to try an over under that has a raised rib, but these are good for the $. These work for me.

    Can find it sub 1000…like 980ish on the net
    This is just a rebranded ATA SP, you’ll find plenty of other reviews from the Brits too. Has the looks of the 686 but mechanically not the same. TGS does a decent over view of the ATA SP.

    Thanks for a very good video...
    I'm looking for my first shotgun,and it came to my attention that this weaterby looks exactly the same as the Germany Brenner BF 20 supersport...which is an ATA sp supersport from Turkey...so is this Weatherby also made by ATA in Turkey?I'm a small guy,especially for dutch standards😂...I'm just over 5,9...do you thinks that the gun would fit a smaller person?Ofcourse i would try it before buying...but have to drive to Germany for it,so al small pieces of info are much appriciated.
    All the best from the Netherlands.

    Hi Steve, I’ve been watching your channel on RUclips for quite a while now I’m looking to get a new shotgun I’m looking for a semi automatic shotgun. I do a lot of waterfall and bird hunting. My budget is around $700-$800 with a little bit of wiggle room. What shotgun do you recommend?

    • @TargetFocusedLife
      @TargetFocusedLife  11 месяцев назад +1

      The first gun that comes to mind in this department would be the Weatherby element. It comes with rubber grip inlays which is a great feature at the price point. The CZ 712 G3 is also good. Otherwise, we've really enjoyed the Mossberg 940 this year.

    Probably wouldn't be too hard to tweek the bores in the sleeves in the comb so the posts would have a little fore-aft wiggle room. Then you could run the comb more parallel.

    Bought a Weatherby Orion 12 gauge in 1995. Shot it a few times. Never have been very impressed with it. Took it to the range last week. Still not impressed. Always go back to my 1988 Browning B-80. However, great video.
