Good for the bloke on the LC, not afraid to use it

The other problem is when the bike is not used much or pushed hard the exhaust does not get hot enough to burn the oil off. Had a lot of problems racing Kawasakis for people who had only run them in the workshops. 4 or 5 laps at racing speeds sorted it out

That RD 350 would be so much faster and quicker and rotate left and right so much better and be able to corner over bumpy corners so much better without that second disc.
that second disc is a flywheel that must be accelerated
that second disc is a gyroscope that resists change of direction like being able to flip left to right to left to right in S corners
that second disc and caliper and hardware and hose is unsprung weight added needlessly. Porsche has been using titanium Lugnuts on their car wheels for decades just to save a few ounces, this bike has pounds added to it
then there’s brake drag of the disk pads. Put the bike on the center stand, get the front wheel off the ground, and try to give it a spin. You’ll be lucky to get one rotation out of it because of the brake pad drag
I experienced how badly adding a second disc affected acceleration, tracking over bumpy corners, and the ability to turn quickly from left to right and back again on my road racing machine, which I won six championships, and two national championships on years ago.
I added the second disc one weekend..I went to practice on Saturday. Competitors that I was just as fast as because we were on the same machines, we’re pulling away from me about three or 4 miles an hour out of corners. My machine would bounce off line in bumpy corners, it could not maintain its line because the suspension was overwhelmed with the additional unsprung weight.
I was losing five seconds per lap in practice,
I went out in the heat race Saturday which was seven laps on the track that was a little over 2 miles long. are usually was within two seconds of the lead pack no matter where I started in the heat races which were based on your registration time for the start of the heat race. I came in 40 seconds behind the leader with that second disc anchor up front.. that means that the winner of the heat race that day was 4000+ feet ahead of me. That’s more than 3/4 of a mile..
that means I would have been lapped in a 15 lap sprint on Sunday final race, race i usually won.. that means I would be more than a mile and a half behind where I would be with just a single disc.
that night after the heat races, I took that extra plumbing, the caliper, the mounting bolts for the caliper, the brake pads, the disk, the mounting bolts for the disc, all off my race bike, and I threw them out the back door of my garage, and I didn’t even look to see where they landed..
I started the Sunday race back with the also-rans in 17th place on the grid..
because I removed that performance murdering second disc, my machine was it’s white, quick, peppy self.
I won the race-, And that was critical to my year end points tally because that was one of the two years I went on to be national champion
