Calon lan means pure heart ❤️ here’s the lyrics in English:
    I don’t ask for a luxurious life,
the world’s gold or its fine pearls,
I ask for a happy heart,
an honest heart, a pure heart.
A pure heart full of goodness
Is fairer than the pretty lily,
None but a pure heart can sing,
Sing in the day and sing in the night.
If I wished for worldly wealth,
    It would swiftly go to seed;
The riches of a virtuous, pure heart
    Will bear eternal profit.
    Evening and morning, my wish
Rising to heaven on the wing of song
For God, for the sake of my Saviour,
To give me a pure heart.

The reason some of the letters don’t sound as they should in Welsh, is because it doesn’t actually use the same alphabet as English. The Welsh alphabet derived from Latin but is a phonetic alphabet- with letters with more than one digit (such as ll, ff and rh) being actually considered one letter- and some letters from the English language being left out completely as they are deemed not needed (such as k, q and x). Hope that helps anyone!

Recommended video from Cardiff City Stadium in March this year: 'Dafydd Iwan belts out Yma o Hyd before Wales vs Austria!'
Yma O Hyd = Still Here. Welsh (Cymraeg) is a direct decendant of the Brittonic language spoken across Britain since before the Romans, English or Normans arrived. 'Still Here' is a proud statement of 2000yrs of defiance. Dafydd Iwan's song has gained in popularity in recent years, sung in schools and by choirs all over Wales. It acts almost as a second national anthem. Wales won the match, by the way.

Male voice choirs are a huge tradition in Wales. If you’d like to look up other songs, Sospan Fach is my favourite. I am Welsh but lived in London for work for a long while. One night in 2012 I was in a pub called The Minories which is just under Tower Gateway DLR station, in the arches of the railway (so good acoustics - remember that for later!). I was out with my best mate and on my way to the bar and I thought I was going mad as I could hear Calon Lan being sung… I followed the sound and there was a whole part of the pub which was cut off by a velvet curtain where 40 or 50 guys were singing. They spotted me pulling back the curtain and I apologised and said that I was Welsh and knew the song so was curious and that their singing was beautiful. I went to excuse myself and the conductor (who I hadn’t noticed was standing in front of them) said: “Thank you, we’re singing in the Olympics opening ceremony - what’s your favourite song? We’re warming up!” So I told him Sospan Fach… and then stood there crying like a baby as the whole of the railway arches swelled with this amazing song from my home and they were all turned in my direction. I have never ever forgotten that, they were the sweetest people, with the most amazing voices and, bizarrely, I felt so close and so far from home at the same time. Proper bois, I am so grateful for that experience. PS. The lyrics to Sospan Fach are mad as anything… but the tune is so haunting.

They say that to be born Welsh is a privilege. Not with a silver spoon in the mouth but with song in the heart and passion in the belly.

English lyrics for this beautiful song!!
    I don’t ask for a luxurious life,
the world’s gold or its fine pearls,
I ask for a happy heart,
an honest heart, a pure heart.
    Chorus
A pure heart full of goodness
Is fairer than the pretty lily,
None but a pure heart can sing,
Sing in the day and sing in the night.
If I wished for worldly wealth,
    It would swiftly go to seed;
The riches of a virtuous, pure heart
    Will bear eternal profit.
    (Chorus)
    Evening and morning, my wish
Rising to heaven on the wing of song
For God, for the sake of my Saviour,
To give me a pure heart.

Point of order: it's Only Boys Aloud, not 'allowed'. The Aloud Charity encompasses other choirs under the umbrella name 'Only nnn Aloud'.

I would love to see your reaction to the 2021 "strictly" where the winner is profoundly deaf and the runner up was a same sex couple. The were absolutely incredible 😁

Only correction with your pronunciation is that the 'a' in Lan is a long 'a'. This was the song that my maternal grandfather requested to be sung at his funeral.
