Not bad, the base game for me isn’t too hard. Although it can be very cheap, but rarely unfair.

You've probably discovered this by now, but you obviously did not engage with the scadutree blessings. That's why you were so flimsy and weak.
They are not optional for 99% of players. They are required, because they both make you hit harder and reduce the damage you take. They are the levelling system that is used only in the dlc without making the base game easier than it is.
