I have made a couple of half slips with elasticated waists to wear underneath skirts and dresses - I find them invaluable. In fact I'm planning to make another one in a really floaty white cotton lawn, with several very full tiers. As well as making sure they're opaque, these also help give volume to flared/full skirts and dresses. Broderie Anglaise is so beautiful, I think I need some in my life... not white though, I'd be terrified of staining it 😱. Thanks for the inspiration, Lucy!
Aaaah thank you Annette, I shared some mini videos over on Instagram with the other tops I styled it with you can see them here instagram.com/reel/C-3DpzdMexx/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Fabulous skirt, Lucy! I love the way you have styled it with the waistcoat. I am a beginner sewist and will be having a go at this. Thanks for posting. Kindest regards, Jill

Very kind of you to reply, Lucy, thank you. Oh yes, I am already signed up to your newsletter and look forward to it every Friday and love the hints, tips and ideas. Have bought quite a few fabrics and haberdashery items from your website and have been extremely impressed with the quality and also the very prompt delivery. Kindest regards, Jill.
I have made a separate half-slip very quickly by elasticating a straight piece of fabric and leaving the last third of the back seam open for walkability. Taking it past the knees can lead to issues where the fabric gathers between your legs as you walk. You are gamer than me to wear a white skirt, I'd have it mucky in no time!
Love the simplicity of the skirt pattern, Lucy! For me, I would have extended the lining all the way to the bottom. I don't care for the partial lining when it is obvious. But that is my preference. I do like the pairing with the waist coat. It is a cute look!
Lovely skirt Lucy and looks great with your waistcoat. I'm not brilliant at adapting patterns, so probably would have made the lining in the same way as the skirt but only slightly shorter. Shorter lining is a good option the way you've sewn it 😊

I think with that construction you are right in that underlining is your best option. Looks lovely.
Thank you Cynthia, glad you like it and thanks for your input
You always get the styling spot on Lucy. I'd be interested to see what other tops you pair it with too.

hahaha I do normally avoid white, but I just couldn't resist the beautiful broderie anglais!

Thank you so much, yes lots of people saying they prefer a full lining, I may go back and add a tier...

aaah thanks Emma, yes I do love the waistcoat combo very much.
I personally prefer the lining to extend to the same length as the skirt. Beautiful looking skirt though
I also prefer a longer lining. I tend to think that factory made clothing has shorter lining to save a bit of fabric and cost.
@@tammymasson2343 I bet you're right!
This would be better with pockets. I’m not confident to add my own without a pattern.
maybe I should try and do a tutorial at some point.
