And I’m not hating on Yeonjung because she’s a great singer. But if we’re talking about technical aspects, then Sejeong is overall the better vocalist. The reason she can’t hit really high notes is because that’s not her range and she knows that. So when she sings, she stays within her range and supports everything. With Yeonjung, although she’s a higher range, she doesn’t support which is why sometimes it almost feels as if she’s screaming out her notes.
JAD Entertainment What does training at SM have to do with vocal abilities? Plenty of artists have been rejected from SM, that’s a fact. But just because you train at SM, doesn’t mean that you’re automatically a better singer compared to someone who didn’t train at SM. I’m not saying that Yeonjung is a bad vocalist, because she’s not. But because her range is on the higher side, she’s often belting out her high notes, which aren’t always supported. Sometimes they sound strained, like she’s pushing so much out just to get to that note. And sometimes her high notes seem more like screams than anything. She doesn’t have the best control right now and with practice, I’m sure she’ll fix that. But being in SM doesn’t automatically mean someone is a more superior vocalist. Many people got rejected from SM and are much better vocalists than some of the ones in SM currently.
Lolli Polli01 thank you, someone finally said it!! People especially like to view vocalists as bad if they aren’t “stable”, but that doesn’t have to do with technique and how good a vocalist is. Both Sejeong and Yeonjung are not very far apart from each other, but Sejeong has a healthier technique and does not belt far from her vocal range. Although I think Yeonjung’s vibrato is more controlled and sustainable with her good breath but it does sound throaty at times.
@yeji ponytail No I'm not, got my ears checked and everything seems to be clear. :) Also, if we're talking about belting high notes, then Yeonjung would obviously have the HIGHER note. Duh, it's because she has the higher range. But if we're talking about TECHNIQUE, then Sejeong is superior in that sense. While both females are exceptional vocalists, Sejeong has more control over her voice. She supports most, if not all, of her "high notes". Yeonjung has the higher range, which means she's most likely to get the high notes at the climax of a song. However, Yeonjung lacks the stability when SOMETIMES belts out her notes. For the most part, she can support her high notes, but I've seen instances where her notes are not supported well. They sound strained and make it seem like she's "shouting" her notes, rather than singing them. Just because you have the higher range, doesn't mean you have the better technique. Sejeong has more control mainly because her optimal range is around the middle.

Agree with everything except Yeonjung and Sejeong sharing the top spot. I think they are both incredibly vocalists, but I think Yeonjung is better. She's just gifted.
It's quite difficult to compare between Yeunjung and Sejung because of their different singing styles. I prefer Yeunjung but I can't deny that Sejung also sings very well and I can see her deep emotion which she puts into every emotional performance. In a word, I can rank both Yeunjung and Sejung in top 1
i feel like this isn't a vocal skills/depth list but rather who can sing higher than who which in most cases doesn't make you a better VOCALIST. i'm not even sejeong biased but she has my favorite tone in ioi. the other's voices are pretty girl group standard (that doesnt mean bad or worse, just expectable and more common) while sejeong's is more what you'd find in an experienced soloist. just my opinion.
Now people should seriously distinguish the difference between a vocal ranking (voice color, sincerity, technique, power) and a high note ranking. I agree with you, for me Sejeong's vocal is better

+Minh Huong Ngo I agree! Pinky is more stable than Somi and Pinky get high note. Nayoung is excelente like rapper, but do'nt have a great vocal. Chungha has a great vocal. I think the weeknes is Chaeyeon because Sohye no confidence in hersef. Somi is a good singer, dancer and face, but isn't excepcional in vocal and dance to be in top 3 of vocal or dance

I like SeJeong's expression, it's kinda…very touch ,with her strong vocal. Her vocal is not only high notes, it's very plump or something like she can sing low notes
Sejeong does have great tone and a great voice but when it comes to belting i have to give it to Yeonjung along with the husky voice. Yeunjung can just reach notes clearer and better and has really great breathing technique. Sejeong's voice is nice but she can get a little eary at times she also has great tone but 8/10 breathing technique. Overall they both have a same range only is that Yeonjung can reach higher and clearer while Sejeong voice is nicer to hear.
Yoonjeung may have a greater vocal range but Sejeong has musicality. They're both equal in terms of technicalities but Sejeong's musicality and musicianship gives her the slight upper hand.
Personally I feel Sejeong should be number 1, because vocal ability incorporates more that being able to pull off high notes very well. I feel making an emotional connection vocally is what makes a singer more powerful. But, yeonjung is still relatively young and can still learn to add that to her already impressive vocal ability!
Meanie I agree with both of you. I had some hope for Somi after Whatta Man, but with the release of Very Very Very, I'm back to finding myself dreading her voice. I get her appeal, but I'm not a fan of her voice.
Although ppl say sejeong is capable of high notes too I think Yeunjung still pull them off better and her high pitch has more depth tbh Yeunjung reminds me of taeyeon while sejeong reminds me of eunji..

Yoojung (Nice tone, stable, one of my favorite timbres in I.O.I) Somi (Quite good for her age, able to do runs and high notes as well, just lacks emotion... But a nice and warm tone overall + Stable) Kyulkyung (Can sound a bit nasally at times, but a decent vocalist? Stable but lacks proper technique? She hits her high notes in Whatta Man with falsetto in lives) Doyeon (I personally don't like her tone, it sounds VERY nasally compared to Kyulkyung. Her falsettos are pleasant though.) Nayoung (I like her falsettos. Her normal singing voice is kinda... Eh. But then again, she's okay. Sejeong sings so weelll (great technique/control) and singers who can put such raw emotions to a song is what make the song so beautiful... So sejeong is no. 1 for me (and I'm a Sesang hehe)
Sejeong vocal is more well-developed in all register. her mixed voice is relatively better than the rest of IOIs. her lower and higher register are good. Yeunjung register are not really developed. her high note make her standout since her mixed voice is headier and not connected.
@@5642466deMG OP already said that Yeonjung's high notes are good. That doesn't mean her mixed voice nor her lower register is well developed. Just look at Yeonjung trying to sing Western Sky on Weekly Idol. She struggles a lot with lower notes

Yes, yeonjung is a really good singer, she can make every performance powerful, she can hit those high notes more easily than sejeong. But the reason why I'm more drawn to sejeong is because of the sincerity that she gives to every song that she sings, the way that she portrays the emotions in the songs, even without hitting those high notes, she slays.

FollowNRBH in the video for pick me evaluation, somi did not have energy in the starting that's why the instructor pulled her out. i think somi is more stable for sure. i think her vocals is better in Yum Yum as compared to Do Yeon in at the same place as Do Yeon breathing technique is not as good.

Sejeong first for me! Tbh all yeong jung has is high notes I hear it everywhere in girl groups she lacks the mature sentiment that Sejeong has and I think that is more prize worthy. That's why yeong jung is more an idol singer and sejeong a musician quality.

i kinda feel like the only edge yeonjung has over sejeong is that she has a wider vocal range but other than that, sejeong is better. yeonjung often strains her high notes and she lacks support, which results to her high notes often sounding like screams. sejeong on the other hand has support and has better technique and musicality, overall. always take note that high notes do not define who's the better vocalist :))

She actually has a good tone tbh good for singing a couple of verses and her tone is a Main Vocal material (just for highnote.) and she is pretty decent idol material. I prefer Sejeong's singing to Yeunjung's cuz I find it more emotional. But I think Mina sings well right? From the first episode, she always stands at the position of vocal. When I watched 24 hours, I was surprised by her power. Strong dancing and singing together but she still could control her voice so well.

technical skill (vocal range/control) 1. yeunjung - her range and natural talent is unbelievable 2. sejeong - also amazing range and control 3. chungha - stable and if she really hit those high notes in bang bang, daaamn 4. nayoung - it's less about her range, but she has made very few if any mistakes, her breathing is stable; though her voice isn't naturally loud 5. somi - when I first got into pd101 I thought she was #1 bc of popularity, but she's actually very stable too 6. yoojung - stable w/ great control over her comfortable range, her vocal tone works with lots of genres 7. doyeon - wasn't too impressed with la cha ta and she didn't sing in bang bang or had many parts with ioi but she was great in itsp. I feel like she has a lot more to show 8. pinky - she's stable too but sometimes she strains a little? like she only uses her throat voice. but since she's not a native korean speaker, she is very impressively fluent (and her vocal tone is nice to listen to). she is in no way a bad singer 9. chaeyeon - for a vocalist, and a vocalist who's debuted, I felt that she was lacking. uh i think she needs to project her voice and work on her breathing? again, she hasn't had too many parts in ioi so I'd like to hear more of her 10. mina - she hasn't really stood out to me in terms of singing. with a bit more practice and more parts in songs, she'll definitely improve 11. sohye - well, of course she never was intended to become an idol and her improvement has been insane. I didn't think much of it during the show but in hip song and yum yum, she was a lot better than before. I hope ymc are giving her vocal training because it'd be a waste of her potential not to in terms of my personal preference, I loooove sejeong's performance of irony. sejeong in irony alone is my number 1 tbh. I also like somi, pinky and doyeon's vocal colours, so they'd be higher up. nayoung's lack of loudness is similar to chaeyeon's so she'd be lower down but the fact she's so high up even tho she's a rapper is amazing. people criticised the final lineup for being too full of visuals but I think the members have strong vocals too; if you think about it, only chaeyeon and sohye have never been ranked A. I just wish there were another rapper or two; cathy or either of the two soyeons would've fit in.
God Sejeong is surely number 1! As a sesang go and watch her performances, her high and low notes can all be emotional! I recommend the twenty five twenty one performance. Not saying that Yuenjung isn't good but up till today her high notes are sometimes still straining, I think she can find a vocal coach and practise more.

I can't distinguish between 1&2 becuz the one has a good technique and control in singing while the one is good with high note but for other ranking 3-10 , it is the same opinion !!!

There's some idols voices which I dislike for no particular reason or at least one that I don't get and Somi is one of them.. I don't hate her I just find her vocal timbre annoying...
I think Sejeong deserves the top spot. I'm not biased, but based on how the judges evaluate her voice, she's got the range and the musicality. She can also adlibs at the right time... Also Yeonjung has that soft voice that's why it sounds slightly better. Still, just my opinion, Sejeong, for me, deserves the top spot.
Yeun jung sings clearly and well while dancing, while i dont see much in sejeong. But vocally without dancing, both are very good but its just yeun jung is more stable when sings higher note :)
In my opinion, 1. Sejeong - She has no issues with technique, her voice is rich and consistent, and she can hit high notes. What made her first for me is because she portrays emotions very well with her singing, which to me is a distinguishing trait for a vocalist. 2. Yeunjung - She hits high notes more easily than Sejeong, and her voice is very clear, but she lacks sincerity in her singing and her sound seems to be more suitable mainly for sweeter, girlish songs. 3. Somi - She's polished, her voice is clear, and she has good control over her voice. 4. Yoojung - She started off pretty weak but I feel like she improved a lot over the course of P101. Her voice is still kind of thin, but she's versatile, and her voice can be strong when she has good control over it. 5. Chungha - Her voice isn't particularly distinctive and feels mostly kind of weak, but she still sings quite consistently. 6/7. Nayoung - Kind of monotonous but like Chungha, she's fairly consistent. 7/6. Pinky - Her voice isn't very stable, but she's higher pitched than Nayoung. 8/9. Doyeon/Mina 9. Nicole Belmonte because of the way we sing is partially influenced by our native language. Languages rely on certain vowels being emphasized. No matter how long you speak a certain language your native language is going to have some form of influence on how well you sing the particular style. That’s why most opera singers are western even though majority don’t actually speak or even understand a word of what their singing. I’m a singer (actually paid not like amature) and it’s easier to sing in a language foreigner just based off phonetics than it is to sing in English. Even though English is my first language. Also a lot people’s vocal flaws tend to disappear somehow like lisps and such. I have no idea why it is, just THAT it is.

sejeong is number 1. being able to do high notes doesnt make you a better singer than anyone else. but, not only can sejeong do high notes, but she has emotions and has the ability to move people through her singing. she is always stable and has a powerful voice. i love yeunjung but in terms of singing, sejeong will always win
Bruh Yeonjung doesn’t “only hit high notes”. She does have good technique and vocal support, tone, pitch, color, etc. idk why people who don’t like her just label it off as “only hitting high notes” cause she’s definitely more than that.

tbh yeunjung have the best vocal in IOI and Produce 101. sejeong is great too but yeunjung high note is better. no doubt, starship have the best vocalist. yoojung should be 3/4 too and in my opinion kim doyeon is good. her voice is kinda husky and i love her voice.

i think sejeong voice is more soft and elegant, and her tone is thinner which makes her hit higher notes easier than yeonjung. yeonjung on the other hand, has a stronger tone as a thicker one, so her vocal is more powerful and loud. she too can hit high notes but is limited by the thick tone, but pulls it off really good! overall I think both girls are excellent singers and lets all support them in their future! :D
The first time i heard Yeunjung sing i cried. I cried too much cuz every note that she gaves stab my heart with emotion. After that i watched produce 101. Then here i met seojung and became her fan too. Now i love them both
I think sejeong and yeonjung have different singing styles，it is hard to compare.

And I’m not hating on Yeonjung because she’s a great singer. But if we’re talking about technical aspects, then Sejeong is overall the better vocalist. The reason she can’t hit really high notes is because that’s not her range and she knows that. So when she sings, she stays within her range and supports everything. With Yeonjung, although she’s a higher range, she doesn’t support which is why sometimes it almost feels as if she’s screaming out her notes.

JAD Entertainment What does training at SM have to do with vocal abilities? Plenty of artists have been rejected from SM, that’s a fact. But just because you train at SM, doesn’t mean that you’re automatically a better singer compared to someone who didn’t train at SM. I’m not saying that Yeonjung is a bad vocalist, because she’s not. But because her range is on the higher side, she’s often belting out her high notes, which aren’t always supported. Sometimes they sound strained, like she’s pushing so much out just to get to that note. And sometimes her high notes seem more like screams than anything. She doesn’t have the best control right now and with practice, I’m sure she’ll fix that. But being in SM doesn’t automatically mean someone is a more superior vocalist. Many people got rejected from SM and are much better vocalists than some of the ones in SM currently.
Lolli Polli01 thank you, someone finally said it!! People especially like to view vocalists as bad if they aren’t “stable”, but that doesn’t have to do with technique and how good a vocalist is. Both Sejeong and Yeonjung are not very far apart from each other, but Sejeong has a healthier technique and does not belt far from her vocal range. Although I think Yeonjung’s vibrato is more controlled and sustainable with her good breath but it does sound throaty at times.

Also, if we're talking about belting high notes, then Yeonjung would obviously have the HIGHER note. Duh, it's because she has the higher range. But if we're talking about TECHNIQUE, then Sejeong is superior in that sense. While both females are exceptional vocalists, Sejeong has more control over her voice. She supports most, if not all, of her "high notes". Yeonjung has the higher range, which means she's most likely to get the high notes at the climax of a song. However, Yeonjung lacks the stability when SOMETIMES belts out her notes. For the most part, she can support her high notes, but I've seen instances where her notes are not supported well. They sound strained and make it seem like she's "shouting" her notes, rather than singing them.
Just because you have the higher range, doesn't mean you have the better technique. Sejeong has more control mainly because her optimal range is around the middle.

It's quite difficult to compare between Yeunjung and Sejung because of their different singing styles. I prefer Yeunjung but I can't deny that Sejung also sings very well and I can see her deep emotion which she puts into every emotional performance. In a word, I can rank both Yeunjung and Sejung in top 1

i feel like this isn't a vocal skills/depth list but rather who can sing higher than who which in most cases doesn't make you a better VOCALIST. i'm not even sejeong biased but she has my favorite tone in ioi. the other's voices are pretty girl group standard (that doesnt mean bad or worse, just expectable and more common) while sejeong's is more what you'd find in an experienced soloist. just my opinion.

Sejeong does have great tone and a great voice but when it comes to belting i have to give it to Yeonjung along with the husky voice. Yeunjung can just reach notes clearer and better and has really great breathing technique. Sejeong's voice is nice but she can get a little eary at times she also has great tone but 8/10 breathing technique. Overall they both have a same range only is that Yeonjung can reach higher and clearer while Sejeong voice is nicer to hear.

Yoonjeung may have a greater vocal range but Sejeong has musicality. They're both equal in terms of technicalities but Sejeong's musicality and musicianship gives her the slight upper hand.

Sejeong vocal is more well-developed in all register. her mixed voice is relatively better than the rest of IOIs. her lower and higher register are good. Yeunjung register are not really developed. her high note make her standout since her mixed voice is headier and not connected.
I know Yeonjung supports up to B4 and some C5's were supported. But I'm not sure about Sejeong. You know that?

Yes, yeonjung is a really good singer, she can make every performance powerful, she can hit those high notes more easily than sejeong. Clearly Doyeon > Somi. Anyone else wanna argue otherwise should first explain to me how Doyeon gets promoted to Group A during PD101 while Somi drops to Group B when *arguably* Somi's dance is better than Doyeon's.
FollowNRBH in the video for pick me evaluation, somi did not have energy in the starting that's why the instructor pulled her out. i think somi is more stable for sure. i think her vocals is better in Yum Yum as compared to Do Yeon in at the same place as Do Yeon breathing technique is not as good.

Sejeong first for me! Tbh all yeong jung has is high notes I hear it everywhere in girl groups she lacks the mature sentiment that Sejeong has and I think that is more prize worthy. That's why yeong jung is more an idol singer and sejeong a musician quality.

i kinda feel like the only edge yeonjung has over sejeong is that she has a wider vocal range but other than that, sejeong is better. yeonjung often strains her high notes and she lacks support, which results to her high notes often sounding like screams. sejeong on the other hand has support and has better technique and musicality, overall. always take note that high notes do not define who's the better vocalist :))

I prefer Sejeong's singing to Yeunjung's cuz I find it more emotional. But I think Mina sings well right? From the first episode, she always stands at the position of vocal. When I watched 24 hours, I was surprised by her power. Strong dancing and singing together but she still could control her voice so well.

8. pinky - she's stable too but sometimes she strains a little? like she only uses her throat voice. but since she's not a native korean speaker, she is very impressively fluent (and her vocal tone is nice to listen to). she is in no way a bad singer
9. chaeyeon - for a vocalist, and a vocalist who's debuted, I felt that she was lacking. uh i think she needs to project her voice and work on her breathing? again, she hasn't had too many parts in ioi so I'd like to hear more of her
10. mina - she hasn't really stood out to me in terms of singing. with a bit more practice and more parts in songs, she'll definitely improve
11. sohye - well, of course she never was intended to become an idol and her improvement has been insane. I didn't think much of it during the show but in hip song and yum yum, she was a lot better than before. I hope ymc are giving her vocal training because it'd be a waste of her potential not to
in terms of my personal preference, I loooove sejeong's performance of irony. sejeong in irony alone is my number 1 tbh. I also like somi, pinky and doyeon's vocal colours, so they'd be higher up. nayoung's lack of loudness is similar to chaeyeon's so she'd be lower down but the fact she's so high up even tho she's a rapper is amazing.
people criticised the final lineup for being too full of visuals but I think the members have strong vocals too; if you think about it, only chaeyeon and sohye have never been ranked A. I just wish there were another rapper or two; cathy or either of the two soyeons would've fit in.
God Sejeong is surely number 1! As a sesang go and watch her performances, her high and low notes can all be emotional! I recommend the twenty five twenty one performance. Not saying that Yuenjung isn't good but up till today her high notes are sometimes still straining, I think she can find a vocal coach and practise more.

In my opinion,
1. Sejeong - She has no issues with technique, her voice is rich and consistent, and she can hit high notes. What made her first for me is because she portrays emotions very well with her singing, which to me is a distinguishing trait for a vocalist.
2. Yeunjung - She hits high notes more easily than Sejeong, and her voice is very clear, but she lacks sincerity in her singing and her sound seems to be more suitable mainly for sweeter, girlish songs.
3. Somi - She's polished, her voice is clear, and she has good control over her voice.
4. Yoojung - She started off pretty weak but I feel like she improved a lot over the course of P101. Her voice is still kind of thin, but she's versatile, and her voice can be strong when she has good control over it.
5. Chungha - Her voice isn't particularly distinctive and feels mostly kind of weak, but she still sings quite consistently.
6/7. Nayoung - Kind of monotonous but like Chungha, she's fairly consistent.

Nicole Belmonte because of the way we sing is partially influenced by our native language. Languages rely on certain vowels being emphasized. No matter how long you speak a certain language your native language is going to have some form of influence on how well you sing the particular style. That’s why most opera singers are western even though majority don’t actually speak or even understand a word of what their singing. I’m a singer (actually paid not like amature) and it’s easier to sing in a language foreigner just based off phonetics than it is to sing in English. Even though English is my first language. Also a lot people’s vocal flaws tend to disappear somehow like lisps and such. I have no idea why it is, just THAT it is.

Not to be dramatic but Yeonjung invented singing
Sejeong has that sweet ballad in her voice .. that's what i think.. 😘😍 i like it. She can controlled high pitch and lower key . And for Yeonjung i can deny about her voice. Gifted ❤️ Starship Ent. is blessed to have her in their company after Hyorin. ❤️
tbh yeunjung have the best vocal in IOI and Produce 101. sejeong is great too but yeunjung high note is better. no doubt, starship have the best vocalist. yoojung should be 3/4 too and in my opinion kim doyeon is good. her voice is kinda husky and i love her voice.

no doubt. you can't change it. it is a fact.
i think sejeong voice is more soft and elegant, and her tone is thinner which makes her hit higher notes easier than yeonjung. yeonjung on the other hand, has a stronger tone as a thicker one, so her vocal is more powerful and loud. she too can hit high notes but is limited by the thick tone, but pulls it off really good! overall I think both girls are excellent singers and lets all support them in their future! :D

The first time i heard Yeunjung sing i cried. I cried too much cuz every note that she gaves stab my heart with emotion. After that i watched produce 101. Then here i met seojung and became her fan too.
