Now the United States has taken control of everything in the Netherlands, including the economy, public opinion, and military. The United States can treat China like this today, and it can do the same to the Netherlands in the future.

Europe and especially the Netherlands has a guilt feeling after the US and Canadians freed them from the Germans, forgetting that without the Russians fighting the Germans during the harsh winters and losing 5 millions along the way, the Allied forces would likely not able or had a harder time winning from the Germans in WWII. The europeans have now been made to hate the Russians and now the Chinese (through their media, talk about freedom of news). The US has many investments in the Netherlands and they are afraid to loose that, or perhaps the Dutch government had been somehow made feel insecure regarding the US withdrawing their investments in the Netherlands. Many large US corporations have offices in the Netherlands for their european business.

China doesn’t need ASML, China will develop it’s own tech. Western nations should work together more efficiently to figure out how to mine and process the materials they need and stop worrying about what China has restricted. When neither is reliant on each other but instead chooses to do business respectfully with each other, then just maybe we all can have a resilient, cost effective and efficient global supply chain.🙄

The rest of the world, except the EU and the US, can live quite normally without them. All those companies and their products mean nothing without the world market where those companies make a profit. If you cut them off from the market, you cut them off from profit and survival. Somewhere in the world, someone is producing equipment that needs to be bought, but they won't sell it to them. Ok, then you buy from whoever wants to and in 5 years you will develop your equipment and stop buying and cooperating with a country that won't sell. The example of Germany and Volkswagen, I see no reason why the same cannot be applied to the Netherlands and Dutch companies. As long as you don't want to sell the product to China, then no product from the Netherlands or produced in the Netherlands can be sold in China, not only chips and machines for the production of chips. There is no market, no profit.

  • @comingviking

The US can not compete. So they want to hamstring the competition. But they want someone else to suffer the consequences of this aggressive move. I think the Europeans in general should start looking after their own best interests. Those are not served by blindly following the US's commands. All the major European powers have suffered because of American geopolitical ambitions. The Germans and the French in particular have suffered energy shortages and deindustrialization. Now the Netherlands stand to have their tech flagship crippled by being locked out of the Chinese market altogether. And if China responds by wider trade restrictions or a ban on trade with Netherland, I think that will be felt on all levels of their economy.

China is similar to US only interrested on their own ... who things differently shall do a proper research. Same applies to businesses...flooding markets with cheap and poisoning clothing, toys etc isn't legal for me either ... there are countless videos online only for you to check for yourself ... harming people purposely to make a profit shall react with more sanction. Note: I am living in SEA and can experience this daily ... I am also not a rasist or blindly pro US, however I understand that China is similar as US in a way.
