Hello My friend we have rain today it's been raining early this morning and it's not letting up any I live in Beckley WV I love your channel hope you get rain soon stay safe and God bless
Pray you are getting rain today! You do look a little more dry than we do. We have gotten one good shower since the hurricane and today it's been nice and constant. The mountain folk are having the same problem and say it's not normal. Hope you get soggy today!
We did get rain!!! Thank goodness.....and believe it or not...I'm kinda taking it easy for a day! I've been so so busy Miracle...it's been very tough lately for me.
I feel what you’re going through Josh. At the beginning of our winter we replanted 90 acres purely for hay where I am in the South-East of South Australia. we’ve had a really dry winter & hay season has been really pathetic. Got 118 bales on first cut & not even going to try for second. Others around us believe they’ll be out of feed early in the new year. Some even think around Christmas time.
I remember moving to North Carolina from Southern California back in 1979 and they claimed that there was a sever drought like SRF is describing. I was beside myself that they have received more rain in 1 week that I had seen in 7 years in California. Drought is relative. In the east they really don't do anything to capture water like they do in the west. They are totally dependent on regular rainfall.
My house is still flooded 34 days after Milton. You can have all my water 😂. We’re praying for no rain but it keeps coming in FL. Interesting to hear the different challenges we face.
Hey the cows look good you look healthy. We are getting rain today in ohio hopefully goes you way .hope the cutting trees project is going good stay safe and have a good day
No rain up north as well. If you're feeding hay before the first of the year you might have a few too many animals. I used to stock 1 cow-calf to 2 acres and found cutting back to 1 cow calf to 3 acres is where it's at. Last winter I only fed hay for 85 days in total this year will be the same possibly better. If the numbers don't work reduce the debt load. Guys like Greg Judy kill it cause they operate debt free that really is a biblical principle that equals freedom.
Well, as I watch this, you should be getting some decent rain. Ignore those negative comments. Some people can't keep off the koolaid. Keep doing what you're doing.
Been feeding hay quite regularly since mid-July here in SW Missouri. We finally picked up a drought breaker in November! Fortunately, the weather has been good and we’re actually getting some growth.
It looked like you were getting rain today from what the radar looked like.. but I know that doesn’t instantly grow grass.. Hope you get some rain soon..
Back when we were raising feeder calves the county ag commission recommend two animals would require three to five acre of pasture when grass feeding. I want to clarify that it was in Southern Illinois and that was in 1976. I'm sure that it makes a difference in the quality of the pasture, but I think the county extension service would the place that I would visit if I had a question.
my local extension office is the very best at handing out flyers and pamphlets from what I've experienced...it's kinda sad. As for cows per acre, we're purposefully running a high stock density right now to really beat the land up with manure and biomass. Rotational grazing like this really puts pressure on the grass/land and is rebuilding our soil a bit more than normal stocking rates. I'm about .70 acres per cow v/s 1.5-3 acres that most are running. Trying to really hit it hard and build soil by bringing hay/manure/biomass to the land. It's working...vid coming soon discussing all this
From a city boy on the other side of the world - I hope you get the rain you need and those effected by the floods / hurricanes get the help they need. One quick question though, why did you bring a bail from near your house to feed the cows today, when behind you in the same field the cows are in - there is a row of bails?
I put too many bales in the field that I'm taking them from....so I'm slowly moving some of those bales out before I start feeding the cows in the pasture out front of the house
potential for another hurricane coming out of the golf soon with cold front coming from the west. how do you like snow? the only thing good i got to say about it is that its better than ice.
Here in Florida havent got much rain since the hurricane so i have a feeling ill be feeding hay a little early this year. Good thing we buy it for this exact reason. Hopefully you get some rain to delay the feeding damn things are getting more expensive by the year.
Love your term, " butt fertilizer". Yes we were able to live down in NC for sbout 5 months, fall til winter and found the weather seems to be about the same as in Salisbury Massachusetts. Yes we do get more snow, but when we were there, was about the same until the huge blizzard of 2015. Has been dry here the same as you. We a 11:34 are in fire advisory. Bush fires here and there. STRONGLY BELIEVE CHEMICAL TRAILS ARE ST THE BASS OF WEATHER😡
Idk if senator massey in control of agriculture, and guys like joel salatin in fda will help anything, but likely wont hurt. Its a terrible shame what Washington and corporate interests are doing to small farmers overall. The weather is definitely changing around the world, but that is what has always been. We as humans must adapt. Here in northeast its just as dry. Hoping it turns soon. Government overreach isn’t going to change the weather necessarily, but with less of it maybe small farmers would be doing better overall. This is why ponds and water catchment is so crucial even in east.
All due respect with all the stuff you buy I would have put hydraulics on one of the trucks with a DewEze with spinners on it. Much easier and certainly warmer in the winter.
driving a 7,000 lb truck through wet pastures all winter isn't good for the land my brotha..it's all about low impact and reducing soil compaction. Keeping the tractors and trucks out of the pastures as much as possible

just one reason to always have more hay on hand than you think you going to need personally would keep some under cover ?? could be tarp or something more reliable to extend its store ability and not all in same place shit happens
remember....hay is thatch, round bales can sit outside uncovered. These bales are for feeding this season and will be gone in a few months....$60k in a barn, $2k in tarps...when we really only lose about $3 per bale in waste...mostly from what's touching the ground. Soon we'll build a barn...but not just yet
