    I love these short instructional videos. I view them over and over. I'm going to come up with a strap for my harness, and avoid getting a bad habit of jumping in the harness too close to the ground taking your hands off the brakes or diving into the brakes trying to get the harness on. I have seen two very sad videos. Both of these people had on a lot of brake on both sides and were flying very slowly. They released the brake on one side and they went into a downward spiral dive and hit the ground. I could definitely see this happening if you put your hands all the way down trying to adjust the harness and then raise one hand faster than the other.

      Thanks Ian! It can be a little bit annoying sometimes but I think people just don't like something maybe because it's not directly aimed at them or they have a different method. Or they just don't like me which is fine too 😂

    my instructor recommends to use the left hand to move into the harness,, the right hand my accidentally release the reserve

    In addition to the tip with getting into the harness: Recently I've seen some student pilots wiggling hard left and right to get into a sitting position. This was almost enough force to cause the risers to twist. It should be common sense but a swinging motion in the harness can act as a pendulum. Good video though! :)

      That’s interesting, I’ve never seen that. Agreed, really a good harness it should be enough to lean back and bring your knees to your shoulders.

      Hmm this would make an interesting video, hard to make alone in one way. Better to do it in a podcast maybe? Either way, I am stood on the shoulders of giants really. I had amazing pilots help me along the way and have only added a smudge extra. The comfort zone thing though, that is something we all struggle with at every level!

      First step is to do some more random vlogging, want to upload more to RUclips but weather and planning flying videos makes it difficult. Incorporating different topics will help that, so maybe after that I can look at a podcast!

    One thing I found really useful as a noob was getting my harness set up correctly, once I'd got it correct, slipping back into a seated position was much easier.
    Keep up the format, I really like it.

    Would love to hear your thoughts on gradually getting into a pod harness from a regular one and weather planning/ route planning for xc flights. And tips to help identify thermals while flying.

      Hey buddy! Sorry for my late reply, things have gotten pretty busy for me this last week. How're you? Getting into a pod harness can be tricky for sure, when buying one you want to keep the rigging as simple as possible for starters. By that I mean, make sure there aren't too many things to clip in place before flying, typical accidents include forgetting to clip in leg straps.
      For your first flights in a pod I would make sure that it is in a place you are very familiar with and in calm evening conditions without much thermic activity etc. You can then build up from there, don't push yourself too fast. 2 tips I would suggest is that you put a small piece of elastic that connects to your shoe so that you can put that leg straight which pulls the pod out in front and then you can use the other leg to get inside. Many people miss this and it means they use there hands to get into the pod. Another tip is that as soon as you feel uncomfortable / hit turbulence / have a collapse, make sure you put your legs under your seatboard so you have less movement.

    I love you man and the tips are wonderful especially because you were giving them while you were flying the wing. I have been looking at the active flying problem and decided what you need to do as a new pilot is pull down a slight tension to take the slack out of the brake lines until you feel a light pulsation in the string where you're touching the air a little bit. Is this correct?

      Look into active flying bro, you don’t really want to have constant tension in the brakes and it’s more about understand what to do when the glider is moving above your head. Research into active flying and how to understand that.

      @@JackPimblett I agree with you 100% And The difficulty is in this. If you've never driven a semi truck with a big ol unsynchronized transmission and you came to me and we went for a ride in the truck, you'd be doing the exact same thing I did when I learn to drive the truck in the exact same thing I have to do when I learn to fly a paraglider. I can tell you right now you need to look into habit based shifting. You can look all you like but the only way you're going to be able to have have it be shifting and drive that truck and make it dance in your hands is pay your dues. Get out there try to shift the truck on the road when you're driving slow down to a complete stop on the interstate Miss gears jameden anywhere plug along with your foot on the floor you might get lucky and going to runaway truck panic like that kid that started driving a truck and race down the mountain and hit everybody. I'm in exactly the same spot I was driving a truck at the start, except it's a no pause event. The second my feet leave the ground on the tows string I can't stop. If I gridlock because I'm overloading my system trying to balance three axises my altitude my glide angle and my landing point and my descent rate and do active flying like you do, I'm screwed. Well I can have faith in team calculus differential equations and whatever else went in to that Wing I bought from the advance company. My math. Sanderson has it all over me for the skills man he's got to have its he's got the actor flying habits he can break in and out of a spiral and giggle at you on a camera. ((Watching your vids always makes me smile and I want you to know I love you yes I love you just enough to let you go)) I don't have a shoebox full of skills like you have that are specific to flying a paraglider. I got a shoebox full of math, engineering poetry skills, and tugboat Buddhist stuff. So I have to par this down to the bone the bare minimum the least amount of functions for me to perform because I don't have a habit to do anything. I work on a blood-stained boat and I'm not squeamish. What killed all the new pilots last year ? Two of them were attempting to do active flying and had way too much break on the hundred feet above the ground turned loose 1 break all the way. That was their last flight anywhere. That's an island in the River. Sanderson's going around the correct side of the island. I'm going around the new man channel on the other side of the put your hands up and fly at trim speed. Keep hold of the handles, in case of a collapse. The epsilon nine people said that wing will fly better in turbulence with your hands up then you can fly it yourself. They didn't mean to lie to Sanderson but they sure weren't lying to me. Pilot error is a big cause of accidents in this sport. If you had a sack of potatoes and could just throw this wing off a mountain or out of an airplane what would be the best conditions for the sack of potatoes. Brakes stowed trim speed. On a skill scale reaching from bag of potatoes all the way up to Sanderson my hero I'm a lot closer to the bag of potatoes right now. What are the only things I need to do right now on my first flight to land? I don't need to control my landing point at all any place I can land soft is the best. I don't need to control my pitch axis I don't need to control my glide angle. I don't need to control my yaw axis. I absolutely must control roll. I don't have the skills to come in slightly in the brakes put my hands up then put on my brakes in time this swoop and get a level flight and then flare. That's the best way for Sanderson the land I guarantee you that I watched him enough he is good. I don't want to have to worry about the pitch, yaw, and location, glide angle, fine motor brake control. When I hit a hundred feet I'm going to pull that stand-up unbuckle my chest strap and stick my chest in between them straps as far as I can. I'm going to put my hands up and get pointed into the wind about a hundred feet above the ground and make 100 ft high final approach at trim speed into the wind. I'm going to put in my mouthpiece. I'm going to try and do all my roll control by paying attention to the pressure on my lines and now my body said since wings in the horizon. Then I'm going to look down at the ground and back at the horizon a lot of times when I get close I'm going to drive those brakes as deep as I can about 1/2 second off of the ground. Sanderson has a lot of skills and he can put his brakes on real slow and really even and fly straight as a railroad rail, and touchdown on a dime. All I have the skills to do is to monitor the roll an attempt to time the brutal flare. I have a landing area about 1 mi long and 1 mi wide. No matter what my hero Sanderson showed me the parachute landing fall and I'm going to do it every single time. Sanderson is so good at teaching he doesn't even know he taught me the parachute launching fall. If you fly off a hill and it launches it will fly. If it won't fly straight it will fly around and face uphill and downwind. Whenever I go on a real short flight like that I'm going to put my mouthpiece in at the launch just like I do every time and then I'm going to launch off he'll just like I do every time and then I'm going to spin around and make a downwind up hill landing in the parachute launching fall position. Automatic systematic as fast as possible when I see I'm going to hit the ground I'm going into the parachute landing fall position no matter what I'm doing how fast I'm descending how light I'm going to touch in it doesn't make any difference. Sanderson taught me to do the parachute landing fall and I intend to land and roll and be laughed at every single time for the rest of my life. I have a different set of skills in my friend Sanderson. I can mathematically redefine anyting I want instantly and view it in a different way. For me there is no such thing as a parachute (landing) fall. You've got all day for that it's only a parachute (launching) fall drill. I will not have time to think at all if I am in a launching fall situation. If I can habitually get into the parachute fall position during the drills it will happen fast for me automatically when In in trouble on the launch. No matter what happens I'm going to take a little piece of you with me in my heart. Where the other person is thinking about his self and terrified and scared and gridlocked, I will not be. I will be thinking of you, I will be 100 kg of red face screaming mad leprechaun American. I will be screaming My friend Sanderson taught me this stuff and you ain't making me let him down.

    Hey Jack, I dont agree with putting the whole hand through the brake handles, especially if wearing gloves. it's so easy to get caught if you need your hands elsewhere.

      Ahh good! I've used gloves a lot in a whole range of scenarios including emergencies and I've never had issues getting my hands out. You'd be surprised at how you react when the time comes!
      When it comes to acro, it is really important you put your hands through the brakes because it's easy for the brake to be snatched out of your hand.

      Jack Pimblett maybe it's the type of gloves I use, but I had a scary episode in stronger wind when my hand got caught and I was dragged. after discussing with an experienced instructor, he suggested to always leave the thumb out
